I still call them “The Dixie Chicks”. They was probably the first music group/artist that was cancelled because of their opinion on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq after 9/11. It’s a shame because they was my favorite group. They dropped Dixie from their name because they was trying to make a comeback and didn’t want to get cancelled again. Like I said….. it’s a shame because of cancel culture that we lost great music. No telling how big they would be and how many more great songs they would have had. They took a risk and faced the consequences. As a young Marine at the time, that was into country music, I really liked their "Wide Open Spaces Album." They seem fine with it, and I still think they were great musicians, and hearing these songs is still nice.

They didn’t deserve the cancel culture they received. They disliked Bush and his agenda, but not the men and women that were fighting his war. Overnight, country stations stopped playing their music and it hurt their path to superstardom. I’m still sad when I hear their music. I liked the Dixie in their name. I didn’t see it as confederate related. It refers to the southern states. They are Texas gals.

The Chicks are the real deal! Such a talented group of musicians. Interesting, you mentioned Wide Open Spaces a couple of times. They actually have a song by that name. It would be a great one for you to react to! Similar theme/vibe as this song. The switch from The Dixie Chicks to The Chicks is attributed to the group wanting to distance themselves from a word (Dixie) that had been deeply connected with the Confederate-era South. There was never an official announcement from the group, but the rebranding came 2 weeks after another country group, Lady Antebellum, changed its name to Lady A. The Lady A change was accompanied by a social media statement in which Lady A said the country's recent attempts to reckon with racial justice issues (Black Lives Matter) had made the band members' eyes open wide to inequality. Antebellum was a word also associated with the Confederated- era South.

Martie and Emily were part of the original members of the band (Laura Lynch and Robin Lynn Macy were also in the band) formed in the late '80s in Dallas. I saw them at a festival in Dallas in 1992 and they were out of this world amazing. I knew then they were going to make it big. They released a few albums on a local label, "Thank Heavens for Dale Evans", "Little Ole Cowgirl" and "Shouldn't a Told You That". (Their minor hit played on local Dallas radio was "She'll Find Better Things To Do", look it up on You Tube). Macy and Lynch left the band and was replaced by Natalie Maines. Their first major hit was "There's Your Trouble" from the album "Wide Open Spaces". They were no strangers to controversy. At a concert in London, in response to anti-Iraq war protests outside the hall, Natalie declared that she was ashamed that the President, (George W. Bush at the time) was from Texas. That was a big no-no to country music radio and fans. They were banned from airplay and their records were burned. Their other hits "You Were Mine", "Wide Open Spaces", "Sin Wagon", "Goodbye Earl", "Travelin' Soldier", among others.

When it's country music it's a fiddle...LOL Fiddlleing is true Country an Western from way back. My Dad played Fiddle and banjo, my Mom played piano and 1 of my brothers played drums in a band in the 60's for true square dances, not the ones with the fancy dresses, the ones that was in the country on Saturday night at the dance halls. 20 miles from the nearest town. My 1st dance I learned was square dancing standing on my daddy's feet to learn the steps. That is true hillbilly country. Yes I am from the foothills of the mountains of SE Ohio and West Virginia and damned proud of it. I feel lucky to have been raised like that.

The Dixie Chicks will be known as The Chicks moving forward. The country girl trio dropped the word "Dixie" from their name amid the nationwide protests about systemic racism and debates regarding the removal of Confederate monuments. They revealed the new name while promoting their new song "March March" on social media.

This song along with, Landslide, and Wide Open Spaces are my favorites. They changed their name to Chicks because "DIXIE" represented the south and the confederacy so they wanted to distance themselves from that.

makes me emotional because me and my cousin *Best friend* would drive around jamming to the (dixie) chicks and singing the songs and do karaoke at her house singing the chicks songs. She passed away from cancer 5-27-14. she was only 24 yrs old. her mom and dad have full custody of her 11 yr old daughter. I'm a single mom of 2 daughters 11 and 4 yrs old. Me and my kids live with my mom in a mobile home in our hometown a small country town in southern indiana. middle of a corn field long long driveway. I love the quiet and privacy. I could never do the city.

I hadn't realized they changed their name, so I googled why: "The Chicks officially changed their name in June [2020] in wake of the anti-racism and anti-police brutality protests triggered by the killing of George Floyd." I was ill with covid from May-July in 2020 when they changed their name, so I really missed the news! Lol. I've been referring to them by their old name this whole time. Oops! Learn something new every day! :)

They're virtue signaling woke jerks for claiming having Dixie in their name is racist. Yes their Dixie Chicks music is good but they're right up there with Jane Fonda on my sh*t list for their ridiculous over reaction to the death of George "the felon Floyd.
