Dusty Hill did the lead vocals on Tush. From Wikipedia….”As the closing song in their setlists for many tours "Tush" would be the last song Hill would sing. After the death of Hill in 2021, the band performed the song for the first time on July 30, 2021, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with Gibbons placing Dusty's hat on his microphone then Gibbons taking lead vocals to the song. A few tour dates later on August 6, Gibbons told the crowd “We’re going to have Dusty singing through the magic of Memorex.” The band would now end their concerts by playing the song along to an audio vocal recording from Hill's last performance.”❤️

I got to see their first concert in an old airplane hanger off pacific coast highway around 1976. It had become a bar and the stage was the bar. Cleared the floor and WHAM !!! Their last tour at SDSU outdoor amphitheatre, still AMAZING. Glad I recorded most of it.. Thanks, great tribute 🙏 ❤️

Saw them in Missoula, MT shortly after Dusty died. It was a boiled-down show - 3 old dude playing the blues. And it was awesome! While I wish I'd seen them back in the Afterburner days in the 80's, I finally got to see the legends perform live.

The nick name for them is "The Little Ol' Band from Texas"... You ought to try one of their old bluesy songs like the medley "Waitin' for the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago" or "Blue Jean Blues". Billy Gibbons played a fictional version of himself in the TV show "Bones". He played the father of one of the characters (Angela). When one of the other characters was dating her he got him drunk and had a portrait of her tattooed on him.

Weird but true: ZZ Top and Depeche Mode toured together in the 80s. Billy Gibbons taught Martin Gore some cool guitar stuff, and Martin Gore returned the favor by helping ZZ Top with their synth sounds. Both bands' sounds benefitted from the info exchange.

Yes, Stages was among my top favorites from ZZtop. A little bit of a different sound for them, though the amazing guitar work is still front and center. A little less bluesy and a bit more 80’s rock. Almost has an introspective sound to it. Everything on this album, from Stages to Rough Boy to Sleeping Bag was all great.

The first time I saw them was in El Paso, Texas in 1972. We made the short trip from Las Cruses, NM to see Savoy Brown and Uriah Heep, who were both fantastic, with ZZ Top opening for them. Let me tell ya, if the headliners hadn’t shown up, no one would have left disappointed! I suppose it’s because they hit me at a very formative time in my musical evolution, but my favorites are still Waitin On The Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago, La Grange and Tush.

Billy Gibbons, the guitarist, does most of the singing, but Tush is sung by Dusty Hill, the bass player who passed away last year.

If southern rock bands were starting out now, they'd be classified as country artists. Country music is where old school rock still breathes.

The actual meaning of this song is not what it seems to be, although the band does acknowledge that it can be taken as such. Now, I am not a Texan, so I may not have this 100% right. The story goes that back in their youth the term "tush" could be the equivalent of what today is called "bling" or "swag." A person who showed off their wealth with their clothes, cars and such were know as "tush hogs." Dusty wrote the song about wanting to be a tush hog and having all of the stuff that goes along with it.

Bit of both, actually - they've also admitted it meant getting a piece of ass. As Billy Gibbons once said, "We had the advantage of that dual meaning of the word "tush." It's that secret blues language - saying it without saying it."

Wait, ZZ Top were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Wow. They're like one of only four or five rock bands that made it. I genuinely thought you had to be a country or hip hop act to get inducted. ;-)

According to Billy, this was Dusty's favorite song to sing (RIP Dusty) At the end of all their live shows the band plays this live and cuts in the voice of Dusty from his last performance ever. Class act!

Another song I never remember the name of, but know immediately by the first notes of the music. Such a great song for a good vibes and mood. And it just rocks. The guitar music and vocals just send the soul soaring. Thanks for a great reaction. Big energy and a lot of fun.

ZZ Top has been one of my favorite "All Time" bands since roughly 40 years now. I got hooked on their early stuff JUST before Eliminator came out. So to be there when Eliminator dropped and see their careers skyrocket off of M-TV videos was quite a ride. Mostly because I could turn "Eliminator fans" onto their earlier stuff and let them hear how the band had progressed up to that point and how there is a clear "shift" with Eliminator into high-gear. Of course, after the "Eliminator era" faded, most people kind of forgot about ZZ Top, but I was still jamming their tunes (old and new) all the time and having people asking "Who is that" and having fun exposing them to the pre/post Eliminator stuff while all over again.

Old Tulsa boy here. ZZ Top released their first album in 1971. My jr year in high school and I was SOLD immediately and have been ever since. They used to perform in Tulsa quite a bit. Their motto/slogan was, "That little ol' band from Texas".
