Netflix has a great documentary on ZZ Top. They tell a story about how Billy couldn't get those gravelly vocals during a recording session, so he took his shirt off, smoked a couple heaters and ran around the block in the cold until he found that sound. Absolute legends

Some great playing by Billy Gibbons as always. I love his tone. Old ZZ Top is the best of Texas Blues Still hoping y'all get to 'Like A Hurricane' - (You Florida Boys Have To Play This) It mixes beauty and fury in equal parts. It 100% banger. 'Cortez The Killer' - contains one of his most influential guitar solos ever. The song is submerged in an ocean of distortion from the start with Young employing one of his preferred tunings, the double drop D tuning or DADGBD (I know musicians like yourself will understand what I'm talking about). It's so good it makes me cry. Those melodies are so emotional, so calculated, constructed note to note on both songs. They are long but you won't care. Give old Neil a chance.

There are too many to name. You have so so many ZZ Top songs to hear. You have only just begun to scratch the surface. You will find rockers like Legs, Sharp Dressed Man, Gimme All Your Lovin, Cheap Sunglasses, Pearl Necklace, Got Me Under Pressure, Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers or Tube Snake Boogie, just to name a few. But you will also find gritty slow blues grooves like Blue Jean Blues, Fool for Your Stockings, My Head's in Mississippi, Mexican Blackbird or I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide. At the pace you are going you will never get to them all. I think you will soon realize their ratio of duds to gems over their large body of work rivals even the greatest bands of all time. I recommend at least one a month for the next year just to get some of it into your playlist. Nothing heals the soul like the blues.

Terrific slide guitar by Gibbons and vocal by bassist Dusty Hill. Gibbons lived in the same part of Houston I did. Used to see him around town.

Nothing better than ZZ at the college “Squeeze In” with a great stereo, cold beer and playing foosball! It would be great to hear “The Confessor” by Joe Walsh one of these days! If you can’t on the show, do you yourselves a favor and just try it at home or in the car....studio version only!

Back in the day, the girls and I spontaneously made a place on the colosseum floor and did a little shimmy for the boys from Texas touring New Mexico. Them boys played it twice and we got a bigger dance floor. Big ol' boys kept us safe and respected.

Many hours spent back in the day cruising to First Album when it first came out, enjoying the warm Georgia weather with the windows down, while sparking a little herb. Brown Sugar, Shakin’ Your Tree and Certified blues are must listens. Great album. And they only got better!

One of my all time favorites by ZZ Top is 'Sure Got Cold After The Rain Fell.' It is a slower track, but still a banger. Very soulful.

The best ZZ songs are album cuts, not singles: “Hot, Blue, and Righteous”, “Sheik”, “Master of Sparks”, “Just Got Paid”, “Mexican Blackbird”, “Manic Mechanic”. Seriously good stuff.

This song was written by Billy Gibbons during a sound check in Florence, Alabama. Fame Recording Studio is across the bridge where all the 1960 - 1970's hits were recorded. It was the hit recording capital of the world. I ran into Mick Jagger when he was recording the Brown Sugar album. Nobody bothered any of those artist. We just didn't pay any attention to them.
