I think I may have already told you but I worked for Boston from 1975-78. The harmony vocals you hear aren't sung by the rest of the band. It's all lead singer Brad Delp. I remember the Saturday in the studio when he did the overdubs. Brad was pure precision behind that 🎤 mic. He could throw down four-part harmonies like it was nothing. He and Foreigner's Lou Gramm are two of the vocalists that had near-perfect pitch. And Brad could bring it up an octave at a time like it was nothing.

I'm from the North Shore area and remember seeing him perform in bars several times when some of my other musician friends who knew him took me to see him singing with other local bands before the first Boston album was released. He was definitely phenomenal even then, and nearly all the local musicians either knew or had heard of him. We had a lot of mutual friends.

Rock and Roll hall of fame is a complete joke! They are too busy adding Country music stars to add bona fide rock legends like Boston or Iron Maiden. I have given up on them. I thought they were making progress when they stopped snubbing Judas Priest and Pat Benatar, but this years snubbing of Iron Maiden while letting in Willie Nelson was the final straw for me. Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton absolutely belong in the hall of fame in their genre of music, but that genre is country.

This song was Boston's one and only #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in their career. It happened during the late fall of 1986. The album, Third Stage, was at the time, Boston's first new album since their 1978 album, Don't Look Back, went all the way to hit the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart. Jay and Amber, you two should also react to Boston's follow-up song to Amanda. It's called We're Ready.

We’ve been married for 35+years - 4 kids, and 5 grandkids later, I still get emotional when I listen to this song. Brings me back to a wonderful time. ANY SONG off the first album is a masterpiece. But "Rock and Roll Band" and especially "Something About You", absolutely. There was a live drummer on the first two albums (I forget his name...help me out) And let's not forget BARRY GOUDREAU, the other guitarist on this album. He was a real force on the local Boston (city) club scene and taught Tom Scholze a thing or two about guitar tones.

Yes, the much anticipated album from Boston. It took close to a decade from their previous album. Then they released a ballad. Many Boston fans were disappointed, because they were expecting some more rockin' singles. This became their only #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in November 1986. BTW, I love the new studio... especially the random things that fall from time to time. Pretty clever! 😅

Although Tom was the genius behind Boston, it was the amazing talented voice of Brad Delp who made Boston totally awesome!

Honestly my first exposure to Boston was "Higher Power" because it was the first song on the album that my Aunt got me for Christmas one year.

Hey guys, thanks for doing one of my requests and from others! I used to sing bits of this song to a woman named Amanda at church some years back (she's married with children) and it was quite fun :D You can't go wrong with any Boston song...Bars! Patreon Movie Suggestion: The Devil's Own. Btw, this song would be awesome to karaoke.

The song has a personal meeting to me I named my first daughter Amanda after falling in love with it. The song is dedicated to Amanda, a woman who was the wife of the band's lead guitarist, Tom Scholz's collaborator, and band member, Brad Delp. The song's lyrics express Scholz's emotions about Amanda, who was also his personal friend.

Ahhhh, WOW! Super blast from the past. Even though this was a bit later (1986) this song sent me down the looooong road to listening to Chicago, Kansas, Toto, Skynyrd, and so many more. At the time I was just about hair bands, and I consider myself an OG Metallica fan. (Bought Kill Em All the week it came out, and they had ZERO radio play. Best times in music ever!! Thanks for the memories!!

It’s a highlight of my week watching Amber meet a new song. There is no denying her authenticity in absorbing each new song.

1987 they sold out 9 nights at the Worcester Centrum in Worcester Ma. A homecoming of sorts and very very long awaited. I was lucky to be at opening night and it was incredible. Saw them 3 times after also. Absolutely tragic what happened to the band and Brad Delp.

Memories!! End of my sophomore year of high school 1988. Amy, my serious crush, was moving out of state so I decided to get drunk off a couple bottles of cheap wine at my best friend's house listening to this song over & over crying my heart out. I knew I wouldn't see Amy again at least until well into the next school year if she came to visit, which she did but I never had the courage to tell her how I felt. Sadly, I have no idea where she is now but I did look her up on Facebook a few years ago & she is still so beautiful. Great song!! I pulled out my guitar to strum along on this one. 🤟😎🎸

The crazy fact about this: This was the only hit from this LP. It did go to #1. Well deserved. Couldn't happen to a better group.

They don't actually all come in together vocally. It's just Brad Delp harmonizing with himself! It is always Brad. He is or was a amazing vocalist. Perfect for Tom Schultz writing.

Epic album and tour, when they came to the Boston area, they sold out like a dozen shows! I, of course, had to work, and my friends bought me a bandana at the concert :-)
