Just a clarification: Alex Lifeson is the guitar player and a founding member of the band. John Rutsey was the band's initial drummer before Neil and only played on the first Rush album. Your love for the band will grow as you follow their journey through the years, hear how they matured as artists, tried different sounds, etc. Still the greatest live band I have ever seen!!

John Rutsey was the bands original drummer and played on their first album. He retired due to health problems so Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee got Neil Peart to replace him. Neil quickly became the bands primary lyricist and is not only known as one of the greatest drummers but also one of the best songwriters ever. They have only ever had 3 members at any time, on albums and in concert. I have been a fan since the first album came out and a friend played it for me. Have seen them in concert several times and they are always excellent live. Love RUSH and love you guys!

(Geddy, the bass player and lead singer, was sitting off stage right watching .38 Special open) and my buddy and I snuck around the balcony in St. John’s Arena and were about 40 feet back and above him. Timed our shout together and yelled “GEDDY!” He spun around and looked up, grinned and flashed us the ✌🏼 sign. Cool moment-but there were cool moments in all of those early shows! ❤️❤️❤️

LOL, I hear ya...but yeah, we'll let it slide...I personally don't tend to really get to know the members in any particular band until I get "Into" them enough to start listening to full albums straight through...It's weird that the dynamic has kind of flipped over the years, back in the day, you would hear a song on the radio, buy the album, and listen to it straight through. But with streaming media, you can hear all the hits, then if you like them enough you can start going for deeper cuts...I'm a Millennial (38) so I fell right along that dividing line between albums and iTunes (or Napster and Kazaa in the earliest days)...

I'll add to Brent's comment, Rush is a journey! When Neil Peart, The Professor, was added, he began writing all the lyrics. A Farewell to Kings was the studio follow up to 2112, thus longer, mystical songs! Often incorrectly labeled as "wizard prog"', whatever that means, you either loved them or hated. I saw them a mere 13x so can assume how I felt. Great band! Great memories! May want to go further back to Caress of Steel! ;)

Rush has always been a trio - Geddy Lee (vocals/ bass/ keyboards), Alex Lifeson (guitar) & Neil Peart (drums/ lyrics)... since 1974. John Rutsey (drums) was the original drummer, who did the 1st Rush album; when Rush was signed in 1974 to tour the US for the first time, the managers were adamant that Rutsey had to go... He was a diabetic and had health issues - they were certain that he would not survive life on the road outside of Canada (John Rutsey passed away in 2008). Lee & Lifeson also felt that they needed a new drummer who shared their influences and drive. Neil Peart was working a day job and playing drums in a local band, when he was contacted to audition for Rush in 1974 for the tour... he impressed Lee & Lifeson and did the first Rush tour... They noticed that Peart read a lot and seemed very opinionated; Geddy Lee was not happy w/ his lyrics, so they asked Neil Peart if he could write lyrics for the band. So, Peart made his mark on their 2nd album 'Fly by night' in 1975, both w/ his drumming skills and lyrics. 'Closer to the heart' became a hit single in 1977 from their 5th studio album 'Farewell to kings', which became a platinum success.

It’s about integrity and honesty in your work and community. Neil was pretty obsessed and adamant about “doing it right” and doing it with thought, purpose and earnestness-especially in music. Keep it close to who you are.

This song live used to be a staple for most of their concerts. Mid concert the lights would turn off and the beginning chords of this song would start . In the 70’s 80’s and 90’s that meant the cigarette lighters came out and the entire arenas became filled what looked like stars in the night . Still gives me chills thinking about it.

In some ways this song is their Flagship song. Not to says its the best but it represents what they, as band, always tried to do with each and every song and album. The philosophy behind everything they did.

Great reaction! My brother Ty was 7 years older than me and started taking drum lessons when he was 6 so there was always a drum kit in the house when I was growing up. I’d read the lyrics on the album while he practiced and Neil’s words helped guide me into adulthood and even now I still find new meanings in his words. Please check out The Trees and pay attention to the metaphors and how they apply to what’s going on today. Big Money, Territories, damn, there are so many! My favorite is 2112. It’s over 20 minutes long and it’s set in the future when aliens have landed and rule the Earth and everyone wants for nothing, it’s not like they made humans slaves, but part of it is an actual tribute to music and it’s so beautiful! The real Easter egg is the last two verses. The first verse has 21 words and the last verse has 12 words so you get 2112. I hadn’t realized that for 30 years but that’s part of Neil’s genius! RIP Professor

I will never forget the first time I ever heard Rush. They were on TV on some Canadian bandstand show and I saw this guy with long long hair and a schnozz out to here and I first heard that high-pitched voice singing "In the Mood" and I instantly fell in love with the band.

You guys were reading my mind, i was in the mood for some rush and was watching your previous rush video reactions and you surprised me with a new one. Thank you. There is only 3 members John Rutsey was the first drummer that neil replaced. Amber mentioned it you definetly have to do neil's drum solo amber you'll love it. A couple of other songs i'd reccommend is the garden and loosing it live. The trees red, barchetta, roll the bones, mission, by-tor and the snow dog and lakeside park. sorry to name so many but there just small amount of songs i love.

Yeah, I think they'd get a kick out of Roll the Bones...It's so quirky with Geddy's pitched down rapping (They debated having an actual rapper on the track or possibly even John Cleese of Monty Python) but it still keeps the amazing composition and thought provoking message on the nature of luck and fate...the allegory in The Trees is pretty fun too..

I usually prefer listening to, and seeing reactions to, studio versions of songs, but the added craziness they add to this song in concert is a must see. It's wonderful to hear this *very* extended outro with Geddy and Alex just goofing around with each other. When you can fit it into the rotation look for pretty much any live version of this song, especially late 80s-early 90s when Geddy could still mostly wail. You won't be disappointed.

Glad to see a younger generation getting into RUSH. I am 57 yrs old and first heard RUSH when I was like 13 back in 1978. Have loved them from day 1 especially all their earliest albums from moving pictures on back. Oh and FYI RUSH has always been 3 guys. Never 4. Thought you may have needed that fact verified for future reference. DO MORE RUSH...THE EARLIER THE BETTER. I think since you guys like RUSH so much you should do 1 RUSH song a week. Starting at the very beginning going in chronological order. Just type in RUSH Discology on KZbin and the very first entry with 203 videos would be a great guide for you. Please do it. You won't regret it. And all of us old timers would love to relive each and every song with you. PLEASE JUST DO IT

Rush as been one of my favorite bands for a long long time. In 1991 my mom asked me what I had planned for the week. I told her I was going to a Rush concert and she replied " I was hoping you would out grow that type of music." I told her " Mom, you don't out grow Rush. You grow into Rush." Even at the young age of 21 I new I would only grow to appreciate them more as time went on. I'm in my mid 50's now and I was spot on.

Hey guys your great!!!!! Rush's music was mainly written by Neil Peart. He was a poet who studied classical poetry and mystical writings to compose many of the songs. He also did much of the arrangements. They almost broke up when Neil’s wife and daughter dudes like 6 months apart. But they came back.

I've been a Rush fan since early 1976 and the thing that grabbed me and never let go was the extreme level of musicianship of all three of them. Add the intelligence of the lyrics and there was no looking back 💯🤘. Great song message and the "answer", if you will, to the "problems" described in the title track of the album A Farewell To Kings. That's a good idea for a reaction, by the way 💯🤘.
