Cher is a legitimate badass. She's done it all - recording career, television shows, movies and she's always done it her way. And she is still doing live shows at 74! She was also married to Greg Allman and had a child with him - who is playing guitar on this song. Imagine being her son and seeing your mom dressed in that outfit dancing around all those guys.

Cher started out in her teens with husband Sonny Bono. They wrote and sang songs throughout 1960’s. In the 1970’s they got their own entertainment show weekly. They did music, comedy. They had a baby. They divorced later in the 1970’s. She met and married Greg Allman (one of the Allman brothers, who had his own bluesy rock singing career. They had a child, Elijah Blue. The marriage didn’t last. But Cher’s voice and style carried her on. She also became an actress. She won an Oscar. Cher is an icon.

I love Tracy Chapman, but I think that "Give Me One Reason" is NOT one of her best songs (even though it was a commercial success). It didn't have that depth of meaning and social consciousness that I love in her other songs. It's the reason I never bought the album it was on until I actually listened to it over a decade later and loved every song on it except for that one. Instead of "Give Me One Reason", I would recommend "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution", but she has so many great songs to listen to, many of which are modern classics, that it's easy to find great Tracy Chapman songs to listen to.

Cher, the tall, dark, slender American Native woman. Sonny Bono, the short, goofy, dark haired Sicilian man. Together they made some of the most iconic music of the 70's. At one point, they even had their own TV variety show that continued even after their divorce. They had respect for each other and they were great together. Cher discovered that she could move on without Sonny and over the years became a musical, TV and motion picture legend. She's been through a lot in her life and much of her experience can be witnessed in her music, but still, she never lost herself and for that I give her much respect. Sonny was killed in a skiing accident in Colorado many years ago and his death hit her hard. I can hear some of that regret in this song, even though the song is not about him directly. Cher is an artist of the highest caliber. PEACE!!!!!

I think the confusion about Cher's heritage goes back to her hit song "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves," where she sings the line about being half Cherokee. It's just a line in a song, but people immediately thought, based on that line as well as her overall appearance, that Cher was actually part Native American. As it turns out, she's not. She's all European.

YAY!!! I remember being so shocked when I saw this video for the first time back in 1989. I couldn't believe MTV actually played it, which they would only do after 9pm. Of course it was surrounded in controversy. The Navy was PISSED when this video came out. They didn't know she was going to wear that outfit. To this day the Navy will still not allow any musician to film a music video on a naval ship. I saw Cher in concert 2 years ago on her 73rd birthday and she wore a replica of the outfit from this video and she can *STILL* rock it. Her self deprecating humor and her steadfast refusal to conform to....well, anything are just two of the many reasons I love her.

he music video for "If I Could Turn Back Time", directed by American television director Marty Callner, takes place on board the battleship USS Missouri. It depicts Cher and her band performing a concert for the ship's crew. The video was filmed in Los Angeles on Friday night, June 30, 1989, while the ship was stationed at the former Long Beach Naval Shipyard at Pier D. In the video, the band plays on the foredeck, and the ship is rigged with spotlights, light racks and strobes. Cher's son, Elijah Blue Allman, 12 at the time, appears as one of the band's guitarists wearing dark glasses and a Jimi Hendrix T-shirt.

When she was doing her residency in Vegas she ended her performance one night by yelling at a guy in the audience, "What is your 70 year old Grandma doing tonight!" I laughed my ass off. I totally agree with everyone who said that she has done it her way. She hasn't backed down over negative receptions, she wears what she wants and where she wants. The Navy wasn't very happy about this performance. They had agreed to her doing the video onboard ship but didn't know what she was going to wear. She basically told them to stick it. She suffers from extreme stage fright and use to throw up before every performance. Sonny literally had to drag her on stage. Their first time in London, to perform, they went out and walked around the city. When they got back to the hotel, they wouldn't let them in because they were dressed in hippie clothing and they just didn't believe that these two would be big stars! She contracted Lyme disease and continued to try and perform. She would go to her trailer and put a sign on the door threatening anyone who woke her up. Eventually she had to quit for awhile and fans who had purchased tickets were not happy. She has arrived to concerts hours late and basically just does what she wants. I admire her for all of the above reasons, except maybe the not showing up on time for performances!! When Sonny and she first split up, they both continued to live together in their mansion with their separate partners. They divided the house down the middle and Cher said it was one of the happiest times of her life. I think the saddest times were the death of Sonny and Greg Allman. When Cassidy first came out as gay, Cher had a hard time with it but she got over it quickly. She decided that if she wanted to have her daughter/son in her life, she would need to change how she felt. She just had never really been around anyone who was openly gay. Now she is extremely supportive and has become a gay icon, hence all the drag shows have a Cher on the marquis. Love her!
