She stopped chasing her dream to raise them, something that I believe really shows her character. She also stopped singing because she lost her voice after getting Lyme disease from a tick-had to have her voice box rebuilt. Also her husband cheated with her personal assistant-and she ended up marrying her PA’s ex-husband. But she is an amazing talent and was on top of the pop and country charts for quite a long time. The role reversal is pretty obvious, but I admittedly haven't seen the music video for Addicted to Love. Honestly, the role reversal seems to mirror a lot of popular media, especially from past decades. All the men in the video were dressed and styled the same, their outfits were skin-tight and leather, and the only hint of any personality from any of them is when one of them lustfully licks his lips for the lead singer; that stuff happens a ton in male-lead music videos with female 'accessories'.

This video is from 1997, when Shania OWNED country music. The album, Come On Over was the best selling country album of all time. She got a lot of backlash from some country fans though for her sexuality and women’s empowerment message-which very few women were doing. . Also, a little trivia-Shania had the same producer as Def Leppard, Mutt Lange, who she eventually married and then divorced. Mutt Lange is a genius. Just saying.

I remember in a documentary about Shania that when she came out as Country performer, she was like "I want to be a Country singer, but I want to be (like) The Beatles!! And she was!! She is still the most successful female country artist of all time!! And this song was from back in 1997!! She really opened the door for Country to be "rock" and for later artists like Taylor Swift, etc. Shania is, was, and always will be amazing!! It was so cool watching your reactions to her!! You both were stunned and mesmerized and didn't even hit pause. You wanted to hear her. Also, note that her video was a fun play on Robert Palmers "Addicted to Love" that had come out years earlier.

While she was travelling in the tourbus they had to stop by a traffic light, and they were standing next to a car without a rooftop. And this song was playing at the radio and he was singing it. With the words 'Man I feel like a woman' she bursted out from laughing.

She was huge in the mid/late 90's, country. She made a lot of the country music community upset with her short skirts and half shirts. (Mostly just the older folks. The younger crowd loved it). She definitely made country music more "pop" and what's it has grown into today.

I really don't recall the older fans getting upset. They were the ones responsible for supporting the horrible 80s era of female country that featured Barbara Mandrell, etc. They had no place to gripe. 🤣

But don't dissuade the youngsters from their believe that, in the 80s, we spent a lot of time snorting cocaine off of models' stomachs through rolled-up $100 bills. I'd like to keep that one alive. :D

@@cobbler88 it wasn't that people didn't wear that stuff, but country fans are notoriously conservative and often older than general music fans. Before Shania, there was never a female country singer that was this much "pop star sexy" before her. She was young and hot and before her, female country singers had a more conservative old fashioned style.

YES. you do need to listen to more. Some, honestly MANY, of her songs are honestly kick ass AND UNEXPECTED from somebody who started as a country singer. Her songs ‘up’, ‘ka-ching’, and ‘im gonna get ya’ also rock out loud, if you like this one, you should those songs out too.
