In the 1998 movie 54, actress/singer Mary Griffin portrayed Stewart, performing the song "Knock on Wood", at the famed discothèque Studio 54 in New York City. While performing, Griffin wore an apparently very similar extravagant outfit (and particularly the headgear) to that which Stewart wore in the official video to "Knock on Wood" in 1979. Although it was obvious that Griffin was portraying Stewart, the credits at the end of the movie have Griffin's character listed as Disco Star.

I never really appreciated disco at the time, but disco was truly great. For some reason when I was a teenager, I thought I had to choose between rock and disco and I chose rock, but in secret couldn't resist disco. Now that I am older and wiser, I appreciate them both equally. Plus, disco gave us some great female artists.

You are among many many who who say the same thing. Appreciating disco, admitting they think ABBA is a brilliant group, and some even admitting that they like Barry Manilow! When you're older, you realize there's nothing to be embarrassed about. You can like all kinds of music at the same time!

I remember at the time there was something resembling a campaign with the slogan "Disco Sucks!" I was a kid at the time but I remember that I felt as though rock lovers somehow felt threatened by it. Never knew why. Same thing with rap. I was in the camp of those new music genres, and I have also grown to appreciate groups like the Stones, the Band and other classic rock.

Those opposing Disco were a bunch a grouchy disc jockeys who were getting laid off, quit, just didn't like that style of music's affect on culture which brought people together. The layoffs came because owners changed to Disco formats when that was the money was. When it from underground nightclubs to hit main street, people got mad. Similarly to what happened when the happy and positive 80's Rock was replaced my the dark, dreary, depressing Grunge era. College Alternative bands, foreign and R&B dance, boy bands, and Britpop.

I hated it but it had nothing to do with what either of you said. This music was just such a change from the great classic rock that preceded it. The music had no meaning, no feel. But hey, some of it was good. This is a cover of a good song and she killed it.

The summer of 1978 the club and skate song of the year came out. "Good Times" by Chic was the smash hit of the summer and ruled the dancefloor for the next six months. You couldn't have a party or go to a club without hearing that record. When this song first came out if you were having a party and your DJ didn't have this record, people would actually leave your party and went to the club that was playing "Good Times".

Like many , this song I heard all over the place growing up. She successfully transitioned into Soul/Funk style songs by the early 1980's with successive albums such as "Images" aka "I'm Gonna Get Your Love" and her self titled 1983 album. By the time her sleek R&B/Dance album "Try Love", it the scene, Stewart had relocated to Italy, where she is remained continued to release albums and also became an actress. In fact, in 2022, Stewart returned to music her the inspiratinal themed Pop song "Perfectly Beautiful", still looking statuesque and excellent voice!

This has been my go-to dance song for decades! If I need to get my heart rate up, I pull this up because I can't NOT dance. Glad you guys discovered it.

Always wish I could hear this one again for the first time. I still love it to bits, but I remember the first time I heard it my jaw was on the floor.

Amii Stewart is a gifted singer, an amazing dancer and a beautiful woman. In France, my country, she has a lot of hits ( Jealousy, The letter, friends, Light my fire, etc.. )

You made my flipping day! 😂🎉😂🎉 I was a teen when this came out. You needed to dance to this in a club environment. On FIRE!

This came out when I was a teen, and we realy loved it. It was a completely new sound in 1980. You are right, it's much like Donna Summer. Another women in the same category is Anita Ward with "Ring My Bell". She also had a few great songs like this in disco-time. Amii Stewart had other songs, but i'm afraid that this was a one-hit wunder.

This song is as big a hit now as it was back in the 70s when it was released. I love the disco era!

This early-era music video, complete with the more primitive graphical effects and her costume, is actually perfect for this song.

The first record I bought with my own money. I was in 6th grade and our class took a trip from Laredo to San Antonio. We went to the mall and I bough this single, it was a 45. I know I am old. LOL

Those types of special effects are what I grew up on, lol. They remind me of the effects in "The Electric Company" on PBS when I was a kid. Not the newer one, but the original with Rita Moreno, Morgan Freeman, Bill Cosby and others and the voice talents of Joan Rivers, Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks among others.
