Excellent board and pricing. First i wanted the Strix Z790-A gaming wifi for the looks but when i saw it doesn't have a gen 5 ssd slot like this while also costs 150 dollars more i was like hell no. At least you have some future prooving with a gen 5 ssd slot when direct storage becomes widely used for games.

Something to know for interested buyers, the two CPU M.2 can NOT be used at the same time. But the good thing is that only the gen5 slot slows down the GPU, the gen4 slot does not.

I'm kinda confused. I just bought a "pre-built" computer on newegg with this board. It comes with a 2tb NVME installed, but I want to add in another. If I don't want to slow anything down, where do I make sure to put my additional nvme?

@@PimpinNProgress dont worry, the two CPU slots overlap so you can (have) only one NVMe in there and cant use the other. Your only option is the other slots a bit lower on the board that are connected to the chipset. Regarding the one you already have in the CPU slots, ...if your GPU runs at x16 then its in the correct one.

No idea why you would need 8 sata ports with 4 m.2 slots, better than not enough though since they can deteriorate/break over time.

Love it! I still have quite a few 2.5" drives in IcyDock hotswap bays! Would need a 4TB NVME drive to replace those I allready own. Nooope :P

I have a Z390 Taichi Ultimate with a 9900k and an RTX3070ti. I've found that other I/O functions aren't usable depending on what functions you use. Like, if certain SATA ports are used, other I/O functions don't work. The more PCIE, M.2, and SATA ports there are the more I/O configuration options there are. Hopefully we'll get another video exploring this!!! The Z790 Steel Legend is what I have ordered for a 13900k with an RTX4090 for a new build. Just waiting for it to come in the mail. Videos are easier to understand than manuals...

As a video and photography editor I can never get enough storage options. I though 12 fans and 10 ssd hard drive slots in my case was overkill .I'd gladly fill the up. Currently only have 2 sata.relying on usb storage

You are the only person doing a video specifically for the Z790 Steel Legend version. I subscribed, and I had to stop and rewind several times, because the combination of pace and accent are a lot for us to process for us diligent, methodical Americans. Is there any chance of you going more methodical and more in depth in a video going over every feature and functionality??? Even the features/functions you feel are unimportant? Thanks :)

The only one motherboard close to this one is MSI PRO Z790-A Max WIFI / Gigabyte Z790 GAMING X AX (rev. 2.0) BUT I am not sure they have - Nichicon 12K Black Caps (100% Japan made high quality conductive polymer capacitors). And durability is most important thing here. So with other words I don't see any competitors here. Also this is not middle class range most-likely is mid-to-high. And you should ask yourself what high-end can gives you more than this for double price? Short answer - nothing.

Great review! I'm on the fence in getting it and what's mostly holding me back is the sudden absence of it coming with a Bios and, or a C-Mos button. Every iteration of this board has come with a Bios Flash button but this.. The good thing is that I found out that the Bios setup process is trouble free for my 13700K on this board so I guess, I really don't need the darn button anyway... Right?

Yeah, not super useful on this board since 14th gen won't be supported and it already supports 12th and 13th gen out of the box.

Gotta love 4 M.2 slots at PCIe 4 and 5 gens (and still several SATA ports), and that little GPU brace looks both useful and inobtrusive. However, given that this is an Intel MB, I was surprised that that USB-C on the back wasn't TB. You know Rob, it's almost funny how much you can get through in 4.5 mins!

About the m.2 - it says that you can't use both m.2_1 and m.2_2 at the same time.. and only if you use m.2_2 you will cut the PCI-e down to 8x doesn't say it about the m.2_1 slot - this is what I find confusing becaues I'm not sure to buy this one or no.. another video said something competely differet and now you say you can use both m.2 slots.. manual says you can't .. HELP! LOOOL

The spec page was updated later as it was incorrect. "M2_1 and M2_2 cannot work at the same time. Please choose either one of them to use."

@@Robtech yeah so I was right about this part, but now using 1st slot will run pcie 5x16 at 8x does this mean it will decrease your GPU performance? as in 5x8 is the same as 4x16 speed ?
