Merle: "You’re a late bloomer." Carol: "Maybe you are, too." It's not unreasonable that Rick would briefly flirt with the idea of accepting the Governor's offer but also we don't find it believable that Hershel and Daryl would just go along with him on this decision, when both were obviously bothered by it. Maybe the point of all of this "decision" is to undermean the leardership of Rick, and that he is mentally compromised. BUT eventhough Rick is not perfect, he is not stupid enough to believe that the Governor would stick to his end of the deal. We've seen him struggle the whole season with trusting outsiders, how is it possible that he would trust Philip after seeing his manipulative moves. Our hearts hurt for Daryl in the final scene. Merle wasn’t the best big brother in the world, but Daryl loved him and Merle returned that love in his own way. The Glenn/Maggie proposal was lovely. Please don't let one of them die in the finale!

It wasn't Phillip who crawled into Rick's head, but Shane. And this has been the case since he died. Since Rick killed him. That's the part of Shane that has stayed in the series. Phillip has no power over Rick, Shane does. These are things Shane would have done. Things that were not yet acceptable to Rick during Shane's lifetime. Shane was simply ahead of his time. The first decision Rick made was one that Shane would have advocated and that was to be called the dictatorship. Or as we call it Ricktatorship.

Hershel's reason for going along with Rick's decision was because of the conversation they had together. Rick ask Hershel if Michonne's life was worth his daughters lives. I guess he chose. And Daryl...he's a badass, no question about that, but he does not consider himself leadership material (even after Carol told him that he's just as good as them), so he follows what Rick wants. He's loyal to family. And Michonne is not yet family (despite how much we love her).

I think it also showed that Merle wasn't the _ raging bigot_ he was pretending to be, I think it was just cause he knew the people in his 'Circle' of friends growing up (& probably his Dad) expected that attitude of him. He let Michonne go because she was a 'Survivor' and she was the only one who managed to best & SCARE the Governor, someone he himself was actually 'terrified of'. I think he believed that if he didn't succeed in killing the Governor that Michonne was the only person that could kill him.

Only me again !! :) Hope you have both recovered from this one. :) I'm not a believer in supernatural stuff, but I feel that Rick was going to go through with handing Michonne over, but "seeing" Lori gave him cause to reconsider. Herschel and Daryl would agree with Rick because they couldn't disagree with "Dictator" Rick even though neither really believed in the idea. I think this lead to Rick giving up the sole decision making process. I don't believe Rick trusted Philip at all, but what if he was wrong.... Merle, yeah I hated him at first but after he and Herschel spoke and Merle revealed that he liked woodburys library showed a different side to him. Then the conversation with Michonne about how an evil man "feels" about killing is opposite of how Merle actually feels himself. Maybe he would have handed Michonne over but I feel that she "got" to him by speaking to his better side, reasoning with him. I would've loved to have seen Merle around for longer, killed off just as he started to get interesting, but that's TWD for ya I guess and I'm not complaining. Ok, I'll stop boring ya here, loved the reaction totally entertained, hard to hear Trin get so upset. See you Thursday I guess :)

Originally in the script the brief scene where Woodbury soldiers gang up on and beat Merle wasn't there at all. The Governor simply picked Merle up after struggling with a walker, yelled "Leave him to me!" and beat him in the warehouse. The scene where Merle gets stomped on by Woodbury guards was added by Michael Rooker's suggestion, as he believed that unless he was weakened beforehand Merle could beat the Governor in a fight.

A interesting fact about Merle here dying when he says “I ain’t going to beg” is that he wasn’t telling it to the governor it was a call back to when he was begging god back in Atlanta’s roof top
@Tyler_W
@Tyler_W 2 жыл бұрын
Great observation. On the one hand, it's a testament to how hard of a dude he is. On the other hand, given the last time he begged to anyone was to God, and given how reflective he was this episode, I think an argument could possibly be made that one of the other implicit reasons why he wasn't about to beg was because, unlike on the roof, he was settled in his conscience and was prepared to meet his Maker.

I feel Merle, Like Shane, had a near perfect character arc. For Shane it was an escape into madness. For Merle, it was redemption.... not only for his brother, but also, because for probably the first time in his entire life, Merle didn't take the easy way out, and was finally able to rise above his own prejudices, and make the right choice, simply because it was the right thing to do. Kudos to Micheal Rooker for breathing life into this incredibly devisive and complex character, and by some miracle making us sad when he is suddenly gone. RIP Merle Dixon, you will be remembered.

The next couple of seasons are going to absolutely blow your minds. I am so looking forward to your reactions. People have told me they don’t watch this show because it’s about “zombies”. However, when you start to watch it you quickly realize that the zombies, or walkers, are just extras. This show is all about the characters and you guys picked up on that right away.
@Tyler_W
@Tyler_W 2 жыл бұрын
The best zombie fiction is about more than just the zombies. In those stories, zombies are either an allegory in themselves or merely a plot device to facilitate the exploration of deeper themes about society and the dark side of the human condition. George Romero's classic Night of the Living Dead really set the standard for the zombie subgenre of horror/drama, and you can very clearly see how it directly inspired The Walking Dead. It's even more clear in the comics, because they're in black and white, just like NOTLD. I don't know if they'll ever do it, but if AMC ever puts out a complete series collection (which, come on, why wouldn't they do that for one of their top 3 most popular shows), I want them to include a black and white version of the series in homage to the comics and the film that directly inspired their creation.

You know you're watching a really good and well-scripted show when they make you sad for the loss of a guy like Merle. Daryl and Merle Dixon are completely original to the show because the original showrunners loved their performances so much. Merle's death scene proves that was an excellent choice. I love most of the seasons from this show, but season 3 is one of the few that I think deserved to have as many episodes as it does to tell the story it was trying to tell as effectively as possible. It's just so good.

I always really liked this episode Glenn getting Hershel’s blessing to wife Maggie I like how he didn’t really give a speech to her and everything He just stuck the ring in her hand I wonder what it like to go ring shopping now Like what if it was a shitty ring Do you just go around looking for female walkers until you find the ring you desire or ? Rick finally realizes that he can no longer It was fine when y’all we’re still learning how to survive but now y’all know how #TeamPrison should be a group effort when it comes to their survival. You can tell Rick was feeling ashamed of his decision of giving up Michonne If Merle of all people thinks you cold asf for that then that’s when you should re-evaluate your life and decisions Him having to tell everyone what he’d done you could tell he felt the shame Everyone was shocked at what he did Carl looked great perhaps things can get better from here on out. We definitely saw a different side to Merle We know he loved his brother That’s all he’d talked about since his return We find out just how abusive his father was and knowing he left home young so he wouldn’t kill him (sadly that abuse turned towards Daryl as a result) In and out of jail A man who knows his bible A product of his unfortunate environment In this episode his redemption that you realize that he truly has a heart From his conversation with Rick to his conversation with Michonne we see that he does want to be a good guy he just never been given the chance Now with his brother wanting to believe in him standing by the side of good he makes a decision the right decision and freed Michonne He then took on his redemption by taking on the suicide mission against the Governor R.I.P. He will surely be missed with His methhead problematic ass. Shoutout to Michonne for how she handled Merle and her whole situation Wait shout out to them badass kills she made while tied up Okay back to Michonne and Merle She was hella calm the whole situation What’s so interesting is that she isn’t seen as much of a talker She only really talks when it’s important to Almost as if everything she has has some sort of purpose I think she could of found a way to get her sword back kill Merle and escaped back to the prison She’s crafty like that But she didn’t She stayed calm and used her words Got into his mind and reached out to the good in him and it worked some banter psychology some compassion Who would’ve thought that these two of all people would be able to have a genuine and civil conversation with each other if Merle had survived I think they could have actually ended up being friends. Fun Fact: Daryl’s cry face ended up becoming a meme being compared to the infamous cry face from Dawson’s Creek lol. Really looking forward to the finale so Is this truly the end of The Ricktatorship Will The Governor and Rick see eye to eye Stay Tuned.

Another great reaction video! Merle, in the end, tried to take out the Governor, and as many of the Governor's men as possible, in an attempt to give his brother Daryl, and his group a better chance in the upcoming battle. Merle also released Michonne, because, for one, he didn't seem to agree with the Governor's sadistic tactics, two, he recognized that Michonne is a good fighter, and could help defend the group from the Governor's attack on the prison. This show will surprise you. I am looking forward to you seeing the next episode! You are just seeing who the Governor really is at this point. Merle knew, and even Merle, I believe, didn't agree with all if the Governor's actions, or his methods of doing things. On to the next episode!! It is the season finale. And season 4 is amazing!!

Did The Governor indicate to have experience in hand to hand combat before the apocalypse ? He made quick work of Merle.

The fact that Merle was willing to be the bad guy for not just Daryl, but also for Rick… speaks volumes. Rip Merle. You were a good man at heart.

One of the saddest scenes in TWD for me. I think, most of us cried at this moment. And in the end we knew, Merle knows what is the right thing to do.

This episode still hits after all these years and rewatches. That ending scene still has me tearing up. I loved Merle's character, so seeing him go this way and Daryl's finding him hits me deeply. I sound like a broken record player but I love this episode. The Walking Dead has an amazing way of storytelling and producing episodes.

I’m from Arkansas and I know men like Daryl and Merle. I am married to a Daryl albeit a cleaned up version BUT know some Merles. Given a chance, they will be good but being bad is just easier. Show them some love and respect and they’ll fight for you. They’ll steal their grandmas tv and pawn it to pay you back some money you loaned them. No, it’s not right but it’s right to THEM. They are truly a mystery, complicated and cagey. I deal with men like that from time to time in my life and they are unfailingly polite and kind to me and I know for a fact they go out and fight and cuss and use substances when they leave my presence.

First of all, thank you for feeling worried about Andrea because people gave her s#it way too much, I commented on the previous video that writers did her dirty, but I feel that the actress play ing Andrea was very strong. Second, Daryl saw his brother do something grate, knowing from previous episodes that he was always away, in jail and so,they probably never had a meaningful moment like this, even if incredibly tragic, together. Amazing!

This was a great episode that really shined a light on Norman's talent in his portrayal of Daryl. Michael Rooker appeared on an episode of RIde with Norman Reedus a few years later and Greg Nicotero and Norman presented Rooker with the prop hand that Merle cut off.

I think Merle sacrificed himself, not wanting Rick to compromise his morals, seeing the big picture and Daryl's future. And of course, he hoped to take out the governor, in the best case scenario.

Merle on his best day one on one would had taken the governor. His handicap literally was pretty much fighting with ☝️🤚 even though he used it as a weapon not to mention as you noticed he drank right before but most importantly he knew this was it he was going to sacrifice himself plus he got jumped by those 2 then Mr. governor took over. We always recall had Merle told his plan (perhaps bc he even didn’t know what to do at 1st) let’s say he did, now he has Rick he has Daryl he has Michonne, Glenn & the horde of walkers plus the element of surprise 😱 they could had ended the reign of the governor! However they weren’t going to make it that easy lol so we shall see! Great reviews as always both of you are spot on many times on your predictions & sense of where it’s going or how the characters are! Always enjoyable 🍻

Daryl finished Merle the way Carol finished off her husband. They have an unbreakable bond because both were abused by the person that should have protected them.

I remember when this aired people including myself saw that airplane in the air in the back shot of Daryl while he was stabbing Merle. We all were thinking it was canon but nope it was just a filming mistake lol someone forgot to edited out. Idk if they removed it or it’s still there in the back ground. And the same episode the rims were changed mid scene. So maybe it was this episode that some editors were lacking. Over all good episode.

Mish-on or Mish-own? The spelling 'Michonne' suggests it should be Mish-on, but everyone in the show seems to be saying Mish-own dont they?

in the first episode they had the walker of the dead wife of morgan turning a doorknob ... people always say that's an inconsistency because walkers aren't supposed to be able to that ... and ofc, there was a different vision for walking dead back then than it is now ... i just like to think that is how relatively fresh turned walkers act, they retain some form of memory, but lose it over time

The Govenor bite Merles Fingers and spit them out - savage ! The Kid who got shot instead of the Govenor was the son of Tyreese "friend" . We feel for Merle and thats great the Show made us like him At the End

i think merle especally represents that it is never too late too redeem yourself, i mean NO it does not take away his bad (racists) actions just beacause he did one good thing, but its also nice too see the development, and that he was after all also a viictim of poor chilhood so as daryl. And the fact that thoses 2 characters arent even in the comics amazes me so much, like they were going to do merle anyway, but daryl was made simply beacause norman reedus was too good to just be left behind, but wasnt quite what they were looking for interpreting merle (norman reedus auditioned for merle)
