Robyn Hood Review of Episode 5 Season 1 where all the heroes are just blatantly evil. We're not even trying to pretend this is related to Robin Hood at this point, with kidnapping and extortion on the cards for no reason whatsoever. They break back into prince tower for no reason, get caught, and just decide to kidnap the son and try and claim on his insurance. This whole story is utterly bizarre and we've dropped any pretence of doing this to help other people at this point. It's just greed and violence for personal gain at the cost of other people. Which makes Robyn, the villain. Not the story I'd be telling as Director X. But what did you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

The part where that woman (I'm not bothering to distinguish between them; they're all laughable) says, "No better friend, no worse enemy"? That's from the Marines. The 5/1 if I remember correctly. But wasn't "Little" John in the Army? Or whatever the Canadian equivalent is. 🤷‍♂️

Changed by travelling storytelling. There was no such thing. It's a work of fiction created by entertainers who had to up their game from village to village to change the stories ( which were documented ) in order to get paid. They used to tell the real horrible atrocious acts, but over time, people didn't want their kids to hear that, so then the ' folklore ' turned into family entertainment. I live Nottingham. You don't need to research it. It's nothing more than fiction. It never happened.

Fun fact: as someone who has had people try to break into their businesses in every possible way, I can inform you the credit card thing only works on doors that are ill fitted AND have latches that don't insert properly. The angled slip bolt actually inserting into the latch until there's no angled section revealed means no go. In short, Director X doesn't know jack about how doors work and read 'credit card open door dur' somewhere in the 90's when it was ALREADY A KNOWN AND SOLVED FLAW and thought it works in 2023. It's hilarious to see how far Disparu has gotten into Director X's head though. Literally making videos that call him out by name is the absolute best way to show everyone that you can't take criticism because it shows that you're really bothered by the opinion of some random person on the internet. Has Robyn suffered or had problems at all in this series? It seems like a lot of people around her have bad things happen (including the "villains"), but she doesn't. Her mom's shot and paralyzed, Robyn's ok. Mom needs bail; instead of raising the money like a normal person, Robyn's only thought is to steal it from John Prince (who isn't even responsible for the mom being shot). She also assaults him; and now she assaults and kidnaps his son. When the bigwigs crack down on the crime-ridden neighborhood, she is not affected at all by the Rx price hikes. Meanwhile she's on track to break Little John's heart for no real reason. Why are we supposed to sympathize with her again? Heck, she's victimized the villains more than they've victimized her!

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they break into the rich guy's tower again to spray-paint "I'm a pee-pee poo-poo head" on all his stuff, but then when something happens where they almost get caught they tie him up and burn the entire tower down with him & everyone else that isn't on their side inside.

In reality the the bad guys son is Edward 1st aka longshanks (yes the "king in braveheart"). He was a power hungry, thieving warmonger way worse than his father. He was also scared of Robert de Ferrers who the robin hood ballads are based on. The show making him a feckless layabout with his head in the sand is major irony

Because the one universal rule you find in all of storytelling and jurisprudence: "It is permissible to do bad things to bad people." Most people agree with rule to some degree or another. Chet is a "bad person". That was "established" very clearly in the beginning of the episode. So, anything done to Chet by our "heroes" - no matter how horrible it is - is justifiable.

@@steveouk90126 That group (Third Reich) definitely had that mindset but they are not unique in it. That group were the good guys in their mind (like everyone who wants to believe that they are on the "right side of history"). So it was okay to do anything and everything to the "other group" because they were "evil" and "diabolic". And so the other group "deserved" what was coming to them. But really, it is a common agreement amongst people that is so common, most people do not even notice it anymore. It's in almost all of our storytelling mediums and it's in most of our legal systems. "It is okay to do bad things to bad people." The real problem stems from who is doing the labeling and who is being labeled. And since almost everyone think they are the "good guys", the "bad guys" usually end up being: "the other people who have more than me" or "the other people who will not let me have my way" or "the other people that I just do not like". That's the real problem with the train wreck called "Robyn Hood". The Hood could be great villain protagonists if the show was better written. They are the most unlikable and unsympathetic villain protagonists I have ever come across in fiction. And a good villain protagonist has to be both likeable AND sympathetic. Otherwise, the story just ends up as hot garbage!

@@luckyleo25 I disagree with your thesis, and (no offence) it's one of the mistakes that's crippling modern writers. The concept of 'the greater good' and it's nasty habit of justifying some of the worst atrocities in history is not a universal concept in storytelling. Storytelling is not simply constructed around good and evil but vice and virtue; restraint and proportionality being examples. Modern storytelling has completely embraced this idea of a subjective truth/extremism and forgotten about an objective sense of morality... 'Everything is nebulous, nothing is anything, there is no right or wrong, heroes are villains and villains heroes'. I saw a movie a few years back where the protagonists were being invaded by the barbarian horde, their forces beaten in open battle, the survivors decided to use human sacrifice to summon a demon to kill all their enemies... And they were the 'heroes' of that story? The people who believe there is no basic, objective morality in the human condition are the worst storytellers.

I can still use KZbin (and other sites with videos) & I don't get any ads. (I've used it for awhile & gotten used to being on the internet & watching stuff without ads. And then I'm showing my aunt & uncle stuff on their tv with youtube tv. Or my sister's showing me an episode on her laptop, which doesn't have adbblocker. John's son is Edward 1st aka longshanks. He was who Robert de Ferrers (who the robin hood ballads were based on) tried to get his land back from. John saddled him with a metric fuck tonne of debt on his lands when Robert was fostered by John due to being orphaned in the 1st baron rebellion. Edward was so scared of Robert he fucked him out of the Scottish crown then invaded after putting a weak king on the Scottish throne. Yes Edward longshanks is the same king in the Scottish war of independence aka Braveheart. Turning johns son into robin hood is like turning Kathleen Kennedy into Az.

@@dickybird6916 Um, you've missed a generation: John's (eldest) son was Henry III (b. 1207 r.1216-1272). Edward I (b. 1239 r.1272-1307) was John's grandson. John died in 1216. Queen Margaret of Scotland, whose death instigated the First Interregnum and the Thirteen Claimants, did not die until 1290. Someone who was fostered by John would have been a very old man by that point and not much of a direct threat. Assuming the Robert de Ferrers you are talking about (several members of the family in different generations were called Robert) is the 6th Earl of Derby, who was a royal ward and who did try to regain estates/castles the family had formerly held from the crown and who did join Montfort's Rebellion/The Second Baron's War (1263-1265/6) against Henry III and of whom it was said "Of no one was Edward [the future Edward I] more afraid", his dates are c.1239-1279 (so he died before the dispute to the Scottish succession even started) and his father died in 1254, which is a long time after the first barons' rebellion (1215-1217). (I am also confused as to what you mean about the Scottish throne, because to the best of my knowledge none of the thirteen claimants was a de Ferrers. Are you confusing him with Robert de Brus?) If you are setting Robin Hood at the time of Prince John's attempt to seize power from Richard I (the Lionheart) while he was away on the Third Crusade, that's the 1190s. Richard left on crusade in 1189, John took over government in 1191, Richard was taken prisoner on his way back to England and a ransom demanded in 1192, the ransom was paid (raising it and paying for the wars contributed to the high taxes) and he returned in 1194. A few months later Richard went to fight in France and never returned, dying there in 1199. Funnily enough, William de Ferrers, 4th Earl of Derby (grandfather of the above Robert de Ferrers) -- whose father died on crusade with Richard I -- did take Nottingham Castle against John's supporters in 1194 (fighting in support of Richard I) and briefly become Sheriff of Nottingham; however on John's legal accession in 1199, he supported him, because he was loyal to the Crown regardless of who wore it. He survived John and supported his son, Henry III, against the barons, and was granted castles etc to hold during Henry's minority. He was in very good standing with the Crown, not a dispossessed outlaw in rebellion against his king. There are a hundred years between John taking over the government of England in Richard I's absence and Edward I "hammering" the Scots. Any attempt to find the "actual" Robin Hood is a bit like the search for the "real" King Arthur. The earliest written accounts we have date from hundreds of years after the events they purport to tell, there are multiple "types" of the character in different sources, characters and details were added and changed in the various historical retellings. Every age has their own King Arthur and Robin Hood.

Closing with *paraphrased* "these people are evil and maybe that is the purpose of Robyn Hood: to open up someone's eyes that there are evil people out there" is spot on.

If I went by what TV shows tell me about people who are bisexual, it's that they have zero ability to form a genuine long-lasting relationship. In their haste to say, "LOOK! I've put a bisexual character in my show!" they have to prove that they're bisexual by showing them having sex with multiple people in quick succession, which usually leaves at least one person hurt. So great job with proving how diverse your show is. You've demonstrated that your diverse characters pretty much suck.

It's the same trope with gay people. The second another of the same sex is in the room thry try to have sex with it immediately. Or the gay couple trope where they are mandated to stare at the camera and exclaim that they are gay to the audience.

It's a bit of a catch-22. The moment a character or person enters a monogamous, long-term relationship the bisexuality goes out the window by default. So that person/character has to be a free agent browsing the market to retain that identity.

Been watching Maid Marian and her Merry Men last couple of days the kids show from the BBC that was out years ago and the Sherif is played by Tony Robinson (Baldrick from Blackadder) Where Maid marian is the main character and Robin is a coward. Show was absolutely brilliant as it had good stories and great songs and it was funny!

I have personally used a Blockbuster card to break into my own apartment. I accidentally left my keys inside, and locked the door handle, and closed the door. I normally also deadbolt the door, but missed doing that. When I realized my error, I looked at what credit cards I had that could possibly get the door latch to open. Now, there was indeed a metal place over where the door latch was so that a stiff credit card wouldn't be able to bend to get in. But, those Blockbuster membership cards were laminated with firm but flexible plastic. I was able to slip the card inbetween the metal plate and the door, and get it to bend around the door to be able to get it to slide the door bolt back into the door. If it was the deadbolt, I'd never be able to. But those door handle bolts are always sloped, which is why it worked. I realized from that point on, I should never rely on the door handle lock, because the security on my apartment was now limited to anyone that could handle getting a Blockbuster membership card if I did so. Always deadbolt.

the villains are in fact often in the right in this, but then they make them comically evil on the side, pretending like them following the rules is simply because they hate the poors. but even then you can hate the poors and still be entirely legally justified in all your actions. the protagonists however are neither morally upstanding, or legally justified
