Robyn-you are a superb Art Spirit Guide. It’s too bad that there are people who don’t appreciate the importance of art; they miss so much of the basic joy of life-art intensifies the expression and emotion of life. I beg your and my fellow acolyte’s indulgence for a little scattershot here, but I’m brimming over from your video. Your techniques are pure gold. You have really encouraged me to learn what you teach, and your techniques can lead to some interesting embellishment and variations (so I hope those people who have concern that they aren’t doing the techniques correctly will find room to appreciate their individuality). You inspire not just with your techniques and art, but also with your thoughts and views, and I really appreciate that you share them with us. What a marvelous story of including your daughter in your studio! I am grateful that you share so much about your supplies-I just “had” to buy that Seth Apter stamp set you used for the embossing in your prior video. I sent a humorous (I hope!) little note when I bought from his website and he responded on the invoice when I received my stamps-he’s a really nice guy. I am sloooooowly working on my art journal, but am nonetheless happy I’m still working on it. I had to change my approach somewhat, because an old habit of mine has raised its stubborn head. I’m a “background” person, by which I mean I really, really enjoy creating visually textured, colorful and embellished backgrounds. Unfortunately, a lot of times I like my backgrounds so much that I have a horrible time bring myself to “cover them over” with-anything (does anyone else have this peculiar issue?)! (I’m not trying to say I’m a great artist, just that my backgrounds satisfy my individual taste.) After I glued the first week’s worth of backgrounds into my journal, I just can’t imagine adding anything directly over most of them, so maybe I’ll do a partial tip-in or two. Or, since we don’t have to finish each page in sequence, perhaps in time I’ll mellow out and start to collage them? For my subsequent backgrounds, I’ve been much more careful to use backgrounds that are less intense and will better lend themselves to collage! Giotto glue sticks. None of the large sticks available from England. I found a source on the web which is located in Hong Kong-and they are charging $90 to mail a one pound package of 12 of the large sticks!!! If anyone has a source that has the $30 shipping Robyn mentioned, I’d be happy to pay it.

So good Robyn. From your video intro to your thoughts about permission to the demo itself -- a total gift. Thank you for always being so generous!

Haha! I was NOT going to use stamps on painted book papers because I’m over stamps. But...then...I used gold ink and some old stamps from way back and I love it. I appreciate that Robyn takes techniques from the old days and gives them life!

It was so cool to see you return to pages you had worked on in an earlier video and then add to them. I am starting to really get into this idea that no page is really “finished” unless I really think it is! Today I found myself returning to a page or two in my art journal that I had worked on quite a lot but never really liked. I was inspired to do more things to them, and now at least one of the spreads seems quite finished to me. It went from something I didn’t like at all to something I think is quite beautiful. I’m still in discovery mode on a couple of other pages, but it is becoming more and more comfortable to just throw some papers down on pages and leave em until they call out to me for more. I’m getting more and more excited!

Another fun Sat with Robyn. I am quite enjoying this new series. "permissions" what a wonderful prompt. Looking forward to this week's challenge. I am just having fun with this journal. It's been so freeing to just give myself permission to play with no expectations. Thanks for sharing.

Hardest thing to do if you are not earning anything ($) with your art: permission to keep creating. I find the business end of being a professional artist beyond me and the justification of creating without selling hard. I NEED to create. What do I DO with all this stuff?

Create small collages or pieces of art to sell in small frames as “sets” or blank greeting cards that can be framed or sent to a friend. The thing is to continue to create and the answers will come to you. Take notes and photograph the process you use to refer back to. You’ll discover you’ll be asking yourself “what if I tried this” and then experiment on different papers or fabric (tea dyed muslin). Have fun.

@@smeley08 Thank you Sharon, like I said I HAVE to create, no choice. Small items are an option and something I already do to some extent! Thank you for your advice.

Am loving this class. Can you tell me what paper you are using for the transparent scripting? Did you add the scripting directly of the paper or print it through your digital printer? I love the affect and love the edge you got by using the water to rip the edges.
