A few of the shots James shows us in the precinct could be any town in the UK. I've mentioned this a few times, glass,featureless consumer monoliths devoid of all life and character. Some of the centuries old masonry in our cities and towns practically could not be recreated these days. We've lost the know-how and with it we're losing our identity.

We're at a point in history in England where if you happen to say 'can't we try and fix our own problems' then you're accused of all sorts of nonsense. Serving in the British forces in early adulthood taught me important lessons.. I've learned that if you don't fight for your heritage it will slowly be taken away from you inch by painful inch, and I've also learned that government (no matter who they are or which party they represent) they never have the electorates' best interest at heart. This is turning into a REALLY GOOD reportage channel James. I don't know if that's what you intended when you started out, but as well as showing us the beauty and heritage of the north, you are not shying away from making social commentary either. Which is GOOD. Life is never black and white, and your perceptions about a lot of things appears spot on to me. It reminds me a bit of the Simon Reeve travel documentaries. Hi James, I’m an avid watcher of your channel and also a councillor - though not for Rochdale. Without knowing the problems in Rochdale I can honestly tell you that local services are run on a shoestring these days and in particular this includes the emergency services and NHS. Residents will be upset with increasing council tax bills and at the same time reduced services - but the truth is that central government financial support for local authorities has dropped off a cliff and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. The biggest problem facing local authorities right now is managing to not go bankrupt. It’s shocking and upsetting…so councillors have to do so much with so little and encourage communities to play their part in making things better.

100% agree James...the previously proud north of England which was once the power house of industry and commerce, producing thousands of products that were sold all over the world is all gone. No money is being spent in the north...the levelling up is a joke. Now our towns are empty, boarded up shops, closed down factories and mills and the people are no longer people from the area...(of course there are a few). Turkish barbers and vape shops seem to have taken over every town centre...I wonder why? In another town I counted 13 Turkish barber shops in one street with no customers...so what are they really about?? It's time someone looked into what is really going on. Come and see Accrington next James, if you can believe it- it is even worse than Rochdale...our once beautiful country is being allowed to crumble right before our eyes. So sad and unfair.

Well done on a balanced view of Rochdale. When I saw your destination town I wondered how you were going to tackle it, bearing in mind your oft-stated wish to stay away from politics. At the moment, it would be wrong to go to Rochdale and not mention the many socio-political problems the town has. I think you got it about right. These northern towns are not at their best on a cold, rainy February day. Another vlogger visited Bolton (my birthplace) last summer on a nice sunny day. Didn't look as grim as you found it, with people bustling about. As a suggestion, why not give them a rest for now, and revisit in the summer. The former Drake Street canal basin could be beautifully restored and use the canal. @@bythecurb yes thanks flew in last Thursday, had to do a blind landing due to Fog & rain, caught a rotten cold waiting for the transfer bus to the car park, almost over it now, Helen managed not to catch it so she’s been looking after the Lemsips and whiskies. Surprised you don’t get more colds the weather you work in up North. Take care and catch you soon.

Great video as always James. Rochdale has so many more lovely buildings and seems much more interesting than Woking where I've lived for the last 15 years (due to work), moving to Wales soon I hope.

Pity the town hall was closed for renovation. Absolutely stunning inside with priceless arts and craft decor by William Morris. I think the problem was it hadn't been looked after properly, is in a state of disrepair and needs major restoration.

Another ace video James! We were in Great Yarmouth yesterday and that was depressing 🤣 watch out for the video coming out as i give you a big shout out 👍👍

You really are very good at these travelogues, James. You’re very objective but give just enough away so that we know what you’re driving at and likely most of your subscribers feel the same way. You show it how it is. This country is unrecognisable from what it once was. Something has to change and change radically. It feels like we’re on the precipice of something major.

Absolutely correct. There is something really sinister brewing in the UK.

My husband is from Rochdale, we met online then i went up there in 2010 to meet him in person, we had our first kiss in the Regal Moon. He left there in 2011.

We have really been enjoying the videos.We feel as if we have been to Hull, Chester,Padstow etc. ( what a great way to have a break without the stress of travelling😆 ) Cost effective too! lol Just shows you what a diverse and brilliant place the U.K. really is. sad that some places need TLC, but the history, the architecture, the beauty is still in EVERY town.Thanks for sharing! Best to HB.

Also come to Holmfirth, it's got a facinating history, especially that the town was the forerunner in film making and was making movies way back in 1898, way before Hollywood. Then you've got Last Of The Summer Wine, the cloth industry, the home of the postcard etc.

Fascinating hearing about the origins of the CoOp. Local museums always have something interesting inside. 🙂

As old England literally dies out Britain will become a muslim country. You cannot invite different people in and expect everything to stay the same. Anyway good vid James as usual.
@Simon-fr4ts9 ай бұрын
It's scary. Our Government must see this, but they just let it happen. Those posh toffs at the top will eventually have to bow down to Islam as it will get to their doorstep eventually. Do they really want us all to live in the dark ages?

Just to add. Your vlogs of all our once great towns will be a historical reflection of society in the 2020’s. You may think that you are not showing enough but it is still great to glimpse these northern towns. My family were from South Shields, Sunderland and farms around Durham and Northumberland working in foundries until the work and industry began to die. They then moved down south working in the factories and running shops/grocers providing credit to local people before banks would lend working class any money. They found a niche and allowed local communities to buy “on tick” and pay it back when they got paid. Suppose if you did that now many would come and stock up and never return meaning you end up broke? Anyway great to see these places as once they were the keystone of Britain

Hi, I have just subscribed to your channel. Loved the vlog " 17dogs, punters in barbour jackets, big watches and £18 for 2 drinks" ? In Seahouses. Made me laugh😂. Found your vlog about Rochdale interesting with a fair and unbiased opinion on the town....sadly being from Rochdale myself. You should send the link to the council as the May elections are coming up soon. We now have a Scottish MP who doesn't even live in the Borough, or even the flippin'country. Keep them coming 👍
