Hello. GREAT layout and video. You may have mentioned this, but don't forget the long grab irons above the front windshields and the window wipers. They are pretty easy to install and give you nice detail for the time & money. Front looks naked without them and the MU hoses and cables like you said. Looking forward to watching your progress. You are very talented and have a great vision.

Like that new loco. I noticed that the main board uses clips to connect to motor. It’s a hold out to old blue box engines. I really like these main boards makes upgrading old blue box motors fairly easy.

I have my Loksounds set up so one function turns on the head light, another the ditch lights (operates front and rear if the respective headlights are on). One more dims the lights and turns off the ditch lights. Once a train is set up you only need the dim function for meets, running in yards etc. It is the only lighting function set up in my withrottle game controllers.

That is the old blue box chassis, not as heavy as newer ones but there is some space to add more if needed.

When installing the decoder, look real close and you will see one pin hole is not all the way through. Then look at the light board on the loco. You'll see one pin is missing. Orient the board so the plugged hole goes where the pin is missing.
@EvanstonSub
@EvanstonSub 7 күн бұрын
I mentioned that one pin is blank so that it only works in the correct orientation.

Man, even the base model is still light years from the blue boxes I had in the 90s. Hey a heads up on the number lights, when you have an engine consist only the number lights that your authority has been granted to will be lit, all the others are dark. Most of the time that is the lead unit, however, on your local for instance, they may lit on the lead unit going out, but coming home they will be lit on the same unit, only it will be trailing coming home. That is how a other trains and gangs know what train it is, especially at night for meeting and passing, clearing through work areas, paper work addressed too. So the point is, in a engine consist of two or more locomotives, only the set of number lights the main track authority is granted to will be lit. Paul
@EvanstonSub
@EvanstonSub 7 күн бұрын
Paul, thanks so much for the information. I have always wondered about when road numbers were lit. This is very helpful. I definitely want to do night running session down the road sometime.

@@EvanstonSub Quite welcome. Also those lights that shine down on the ground under the engineer's window, they are used for the engineer at night to see if the train is moving when starting a train. It is very difficult to to judge that looking out the front window.

Could be worth buying a Lokprogrammer so you can buy blank decoders and put in the required sounds. Also good for updating decoders with the latest firmware or sounds, the original SD70ACE project didn't sound good, but the updated project sounded far better.

The LokProgrammer is definitely worth the investment. I get a TON of use out of mine! I also prefer ESU LokSound over anything else due to the customization you have with it.

@RichardOpaluch-pj3rv 2 күн бұрын
@@EvanstonSub Daryl, I’ve honestly never used JMRI before but was interested in checking it out. ESU’s LokProgrammer takes about 30-40 minutes to load up a sound file and update firmware if needed. Sound files can be downloaded from the ESU website unless you have custom files. Let me know if you have any more questions 😁

I will take the Genesis over the “normal” version. 70 Dollars for more details and more weight etc. If I want to upgrade the model it would probably take me hours. Or I just work one hour and make the 70 dollars I otherwise saved. At the end time is money!

I'm sure many feel the same way. I will not add a ton of details, probably just me cables and brake lines. Lots of people like adding their own details so for them this is a great option.
