How is blackpool rock made...
In This Video I visit rock city superstore blackpool. Where I see a rock banana being made! By far the best part is when the liquid is poured on the table, express your thoughts in the comments!
Blackpool rock has been made for over 100 years and has created good memories for people. Even a single bite is enough to create a taste that will last for eternity.
This video shows all the machines used and also how to make the rock. Enjoy

He lets the sugar cool down, it isnt at 100 degrees, like he said the table is heated to 30 degrees so the sugar is malleable but not searingly hot, it really isnt that hot to the touch

At 9:12 He quite clearly says "now this table's set at hundred and thirty degrees you see" He obviously means Celcius being british. The rock wouldn't be AT 130 all the way through as a large mass like that would take a while to heat up that much.

My dad used to make all kinds of homemade Candy. It requires so much patience. I remember there were a couple times we pulled taffy by hand. We made it into a party. It was work to pull all that sugar. Dad's caramels were the best I've ever had. Every Christmas he would do candy and every summer he's make homemade ice cream. Our Ice Cream maker was old fashioned and you had to use a crank to make the Ice cream.

My grandparents were from England (Manchester and Leeds) and regaled us of the rare vacation in Blackpool. My grandfather used to make his own candy ... he never had a recipe, so I watched him make 3 years in a row. Never the same from year to year, I finally built a comb that looked and tasted almost as good as his. Maybe I can try some more recipes and get closer to our memories.

I can totally relate to what you’re saying. It took a long time to train my ears when I first moved to England. My favourite me was when a telemarketer called and was giving me a pitch to sell me “herpes” I was totally freaked out until I finally understood that he was trying to sell me a “hair piece. Both of us got a real good laugh. I live in New Zealand now.

For all those from the USA saying "Why not call this rock candy instead of Hard candy?" It is because they did not originate in the USA and they were being made elsewhere LONG before they even reached the US. We refer to these as ROCK CANDY when in actuality, the rock candy is more like the colored candies we buy that are on sticks and looks like rock formations in the USA. Those candies did not originate in the USA either though, as they can be traced back to PERSIA. Hard Candy, like that of the candy cane and what was made in this video, can be traced back to late 1600's GERMANY.

In Italy they don't have men making the pasta because of the way they hand make and roll the pasta using part of their arm, then having hairy arms would shed the hair into the pasta! The same should be for this! Heal and safety men should have overalls covering their arms!

Just about every seaside resort in England has a sweety shop that makes sticks of rock on the premises. All done this way. The classic presentation is peppermint flavour, with the outside 'skin' pink. The name of the town is spelt all the way through the stick. He explained the temperature thing. Rather than the table cooling the sugar, the table is kept at 30℃, which stops it hardening. You saw on the cooling table at the back, how he reacted very quickly when he accidentally got hold of a hot piece. He was using the shears, rather than a flat blade.

Michael Ward, you do realize there are hundreds of thousands of restaurants and food producers (like this one) that operate their entire lifespan without any incident of food poisoning? And it’s not luck, it’s called washing your hands (and food prep surfaces). It’s because people are lazy and/or get complacent, so companies make extreme rules to wear gloves because of the isolated situation. By the by, practically all food handling regulations don’t require gloves, they require safe handling practices...which, usually mean washing you damn hands, and other food contact surfaces, that’s all. You would be shocked how many companies, that is all they do...no gloves needed. What ensures a culinary catastrophe is unsafe practices, not the lack protective attire. Think about it, what’s to say there not a bug on the gloves. Your ignorance of the matter doesn’t look good on you. By the way, have you ever warn gloves while dealing with hot food, and sweat I’d dripping out of your glove because the sweat can’t evaporate off your hands. I have, and I’m pretty sure most folks don’t want that sweat on their food.

probably none. Im a chef and the heat from the burners pretty much means you never have hairs on your arms/hands. I can only imagine its the same here. All this guys hairs will have been burnt off a long time ago. The thing I noticed more was he used the towel that he was using to keep the candy warm as a face rag then threw it back on the cooling table.

Interesting. What we call rock candy in the states is a sort of crystalline sugar structure that solidifies around a wooden stick.

"Wait. This isn' rock candy! This is old lady purse candy". I'm not sure about that, but this isn't typical "seaside rock". The white stuff in the middle is usually flavoured with peppermint. Then the name of the town is spelt all the way through the stick. The 'candy' that makes the letters is as hard as the candy you get in peanut brittle. As a child I remember, you could cut your tongue on it.

I'm not exactly sure what you're on about to be honest, but I have to say that anyone who eats a foot long stick of solid sugar has a lot more to worry about than the odd spot of bacteria.

BurntFaceMan because the rock is a huge line and they create separate letters than push them onto the other ones and it is all they way down the same then it is made small

so how does it stay pliable for so long, is it while its warm. then when its cooled it becomes like rock? its fascinating to watch.
@CitrusNerd
@CitrusNerd 8 жыл бұрын
The table they pour it on is actually a cold table and takes the rock down to around 30°C, at that temperature it is pliable. If it becomes to hard he will warm is up again. After being moulded in about 5minutes the rock will be solid
