I believe it was inspired by the glass making technique called millefiori, Italian for "thousand flowers." No one is 100% sure where millefiori started though, despite the Italian name. This is essentially the same process with pulled sugar instead of glass. Seaside rock candy is believed to have originated in Blackpool or Fair Rock, U.K. as a confection featuring the name of the location running throughout the length of the candy. Doesn't really answer your question I suppose, huh? It's mind boggling.

@@marcelobrandao2747 you do know that Citric Acid is basically just Vitamin C and it is found in nearly all fruits and the more sour the fruit is the more Citric Acid it has (And thus in food technology, adding the right amount of citric acid will emulate the sour taste of the fruit thus adding the legitimacy of the flavour profile). @milk We Canadians are extremely long lived, resulting from the preservative nature of the extreme cold, and our practice of replacing our blood with an ethanol based substitute. Originally it was to be a lifetime supply of candy, but realizing their grievous error just in time, they limited the supply to a mere 125 years worth.

I’m seeing comments of people so surprised that the video is in French. The fact that some of you don’t know that it’s actually the official language of Québec is quite sad. The province is the only one in Canada that has French as the only official language, even if Canada has both official languages. He speaks wonderfully, I absolutely love his accent!

That is crazy. I had no idea what the end result would be. Talking about "windows and roof", and seeing a giant piece of candy, thinking..what you gonna do with that?? Ha. Nice job

In school, when it's december, the small children (0-1-2 grade) make a giant house like this, but of the school in a Christmas prepped version. I wish I could do that again but I'm at 6th grade. It was the best thing and it smelt so good *~*

and point out how these guys A) don't use a janky painted anvil from Harbor Freight as food prep equipment (they use a nice shiny cube of 304 stainless) and B) they use a sharp knife to cut the candy so it comes out in nice cylinders and not fragment shards

They'd probably point out how sticky the candy sounds since the food coloring wasn't boiled off properly.
