Rock Climbing: Genius Loci 9a | Adam Ondra

First 9a in Paklenica Gorge, Croatia. It is a harder start into legendary route Il Maratoneta 8b+ opened by Maurizio "Manolo" Zanolla which was back then in the 1987 one of the hardest routes in the world. The moves at the bottom are hard and bouldery, but possible redpoint crux is higher up in Il Maratoneta.

Can we talk about his clipping! He was just tossing the rope in there, hardly losing any time with one hand off a hold. Especially down low those clips were impressive. It’s an overlooked piece of technique but you can see here how important it is at your limit.

Adam said in one of the previous videos that the type of a quickdraw is very important. He uses quite rigid quickdraws that don't twirl when you're trying to clip the rope, and it saves him a lot of time.

@@Paul-fn2wb I second that. I recently climbed with a friend's wiregates and had a hard time clipping in comparing to my more rigid clampy draws. I figure its a matter of personal preference though since said friend swears on his life wiregates make him feel safer

Yees! I've heard him say that he doesn't mind if the quickdraw he is using is a bit heavier if it's easier and faster to clip it.

Practice, practice, practice - even on easy routes, and when you're just standing and otherwise waiting, if there's a handy place to hang a nut, friend, draw. Do it without looking for the biner, so your hand learns to autopilot it.
