You can get really cheap beach rods that look like they have all the shiny trimmings. But the blank won't be too powerful once you get into big headwinds, large weights and power casting. So almost all serious shore anglers will have a decent BLANK, then worry about the shiny fittings later. I have Conoflex. I reckon the old 2400,12-foot,2 piece would be ideal for surf fishing/bait, but contact Conoflex direct, they might have a similar model if that is out of production. Based in Sussex.UK.

Hopefully.Cod from shore already been cancelled a couple of times, and I think a boat one could be in the next few weeks. They are starting to show,so just need the weather to get sorted.Cod are on the T/A "Hitlist" for sure.

I always use Conoflex beach casters, but they are very old. They don't mind though, they love a trip out to the sea ! Models were 2600(big weights)2400(med wts) "Super Bass" and "Flounder Basher" (Light wts).Reels are the Akios Scora fixed spool, Storm fixed spool and old Shimano.Shimano is old (25 years ?)and never let me down once.

Often its all we have to fish for ! Add to our lack of fish ,the changeable and grotty British weather as you'll realise why we appreciate and fish for anything, anywhere. If I told you that many anglers on the shore blank,or catch fish 6 inches long you'd be shocked.Catching a Ray off the shore for many would be their biggest fish !!!

Nice video. It's good to see anglers target rays and skates. In South Texas (USA) not many target Southern Rays or Cownose Rays unless they want shark bait. They are very edible if you can manage the barb.

Have tried.Honestly believe I might have lost one last week.Got to get heavier gear !! Believe me I've got it.Just needs dusting off .First chance I get I'll go back, even if it is a long drive. There's a lot of potential in Ireland, especially long winter nights when they should be spending more time inshore. They say they don't like bright lights, but every 1000-pounder I have caught was taken using a cyalume lightstick near the bait.

Another great show with good footage. I really like seeing the bite and rod set. Here in Oregon on the Columbia river we us heavier tackle. I am very interested in the type of rods you use and the level wind reels. They may work well for shore fishing Salmon and steel head. The long casting ability is very interesting. Any suggestions? Les in Oregon.

We have a rod called an "Uptider".A sort of light boat rod, with a sensitive tip.Having done Springs,Coho,Chum on the Fraser River I reckon they could work on the heavier water flow of the Columbia river.Check your search engine, see what it comes up with.Would use them with a multiplier rather than big spinning reel. Conoflex are a good British maker of these.Based in Sussex.UK.They have a site I think.

Some Rays feed over broken ground, but as a general rule you would target them over sand, mud, or flat stony ground.

it's usually mud for thornbacks, but spotted, small eyed and blondes like sand.
