Yes sir! My buddy Ivey and I, (r.i.p.) started with Shout At the Devil also. We quickly drove to the mall in Goldsboro and found their first album. We were hooked. We had it all: The big Pioneer car sound systems with boosters and manual equalizers! We had the long hair and an earring (big deal at that time in a rural area), the spike bracelets, and even friggin eye liner on Friday and Saturday night (only), because the girls loved it😁 Hell, at 16 yrs old, you'd put a turd on you head if the damn girls liked it😂 Good times man. Damn good times.

@@triggerhappydad65 - Right on! Great story. Yeah, I was 12 in 1984 when I first bought Shout. Saw them live in Feb 1985 on their next tour. By 16 in 1988 I was growing my hair out long with an ear ring too. Even got a wavy perm. You're right, it was a big deal. I was in Amarillo, TX (TX Panhandle) and lots of people gave me flack. Long hair is nothing nowadays, just like tatoos.

I enjoy this heart pumping song more now that I did then. Back then my older sister was a needle junkie and I didn't care for the fact it glorified drug use (same reason I hate Pulp Fiction). I had lived through so much, it tore my family to shreds. I have so many horror stories from it. Things that left ME with PTSD, I can't imagine what it did to my sister or my mom. Drug addiction did eventually kill my sister in 2020 from sepsis, I literally watched her die. I didn't cry because I had already morned her death so many times. My closest cousin (like a brother) died the same way a few years before. It's because of them I never got into meth when all my friends did. I knew how bad it could get. I like the song anyway. Everyone makes their own choices, I Sink all my money into useless art supplies. Lol. P.S. I don't like being called a music junkie because of this. I cringe every time you say it.

With your indulgence, Professor, this video needs a public service announcement in a comment: The sex/drugs/rock and roll lifestyle that looks so cool to a lot of music fans is actually an escape from loneliness. The musicians in bands on tour suffer from loneliness they try not to talk about, and they seek relief in lots of self-destructive behaviors. It's really not glamorous, and too many people ruin--or lose--their lives trying to be cool. If you're a musician and reading this, the first and most important step in keeping music alive is keeping yourself alive. Thank you for reading, and rock on.

Thanks for this one, professor. I saw the Crüe in 87, on the Girls Girls Girls tour, about 2 months before Sixx did that. Faster Pussycat opened for them. I wish I could go back to see that show again. I do remember seeing the Gatorade bottle on Micks mic stand (Mickade 😉), Tommy’s amazing upside down drum solo, & some fan tried to grab the ankle of one of the “bad habits” (the 2 female backup singers), & Sixx pointed at the guy with a “ kill” look in his eyes. Crue's antics were legendary, and it reminds me of another story involving Motley Crue. They were touring with Ozzy, and I'm positive that this was the Monsters of Rock tour, Crue was bragging in front of Ozzy Osbourne about how crazy they were, and The Blizzard saw a line of ants marching on the ground. So what Ozzy did was he took a drinking straw and snorted the ants like a line of booger sugar. That left Crue speechless.

@@brokl26 Nobody said Motley Crue wasn't on MTV a lot. Of course they were. In L.A., they got a fair amount of airplay on the pop stations AND the rock stations in the early days of their career. I think airplay started getting heavier with the first top 40 (top 20, no less) singles, Smokin' in the Boys Room (which I thought they did a pretty good cover on it) & Girls, Girls, Girls (almost made top 10, stalling at #12. I found the Crue simply because one our local record stores liked to push EPs to all of us longhairs. Actually found Queensryche the same way. Crue has always been a band that I respected but wasn't "into". I enjoy hearing their songs when they're on the air or I've played them in a cover band. This story is definitely interesting to hear, all the same. It's a parallel to the Rick Allen story, even if it didn't involve loss of limb. It's July 2023 as I comment. As an aside, I sincerely hope that the developing/emerging acrimony between Mic and the others will be resolved and ironed out soon. On a much smaller scale, I can believe what he has said in his side of it.

I immediately knew what this episode was about. Motley Crue has always pretty much been a dysfunctional band albeit close knit. I'm really not surprised there's turmoil right now with Mick Mars and allegations of the use of backing tracks during live performances. In my humble opinion, if they're going to use them, please use them for Vince's vocals! But I digress. This is an awesome song especially for driving! The RRHOF is a politically correct joke at this point. And finally, thank you Nikki for inspiring me to pick up a bass for the first time and congrats on your sobriety!

I always play 70's & 80's channels on the radio when I have my granddaughter's with me (they're 10 & 6) and as we're driving this past Saturday (7/1/23) the 80's channel had a show on hosted by Mark Goodman and he proceeds to play Motley Crue's 'Girls, Girls, Girls'. Of course I immediately start to sing along and then by the 2nd chours, I hear the sweetest little voice coming out of my 6 yo granddaughter and she's right on beat and right in tune singing along. By the time we got home, they must have had me play that song a dozen or more times. Then later on, they're outside & now I hear both of them singing the song. When I went outside, they immediately ask if I'll play that cool song from car. Ahhhh, one of my prouder moments making sure my grandkids know the songs of yesterday instead of just songs from today that my daughter listens to. Of course, that song probably wasn't the best choice to introduce Motley Crue to them but I blame that on Mark Goodman. He picked it, not me 😄

First Motley concert I went to had a band no one had ever heard of opening for them...a ban called Guns N Roses. The Crue was fantastic...the other guy's were still novices and slash even forget what he was playing mid song and was brought out another guitar as they thought his instrument failed, but he just stood there looking stupid until the next song. We all made fun of them and called them every "cutdown" imaginable, but each of us learned later that we'd all secretly went out and purchased the Guns N Roses album and hid it from one another... They became the new kids on the block in short order, but the Crue was always better.

I was (and am) one of the Crue's biggest fans and "Dr Feelgood" was my favorite album. I loved all of their music but that record was EPIC for me. It was the Summer of 1990 I had just finished my Junior year of high school and that was the soundtrack of that summer. The nights cruising, the partying, the concerts, the beach, all of it was with that cassette playing in 1972 C10 Chevy truck. Just hearing the music now makes me want to hop in the truck that I no longer have and go back to old haunts just to feel that way again. "Kick Start My Heart" puts me back at the stop light, waiting for it to turn green, ready to punch the gas on the main strip of my home town. Thank you for doing a breakdown of one of my favorite songs from a time when I thought I knew what cool was and it was dressed in leather pants with extremely long hair spiked out.

This album, these guys, molded my future outlook on what was measuring up to be a miserable like, into optimism for something better in my life. If not materializing right then, well then at least down the line and not here (then) but sometime. Girls, Girls, Girls {perfectly positioned when I hit puberty} embodied a spirit that I sunk my claws into and have never since let go of since. It wasn’t about the debauchery or subject matter. It is about the reckless abandon that time will throw at you and how you handle it.

The stories don't match. One cannot be declared "clinically dead" unless they are unresponsive, no pulse, no signs of life. So, maybe in the Ambulance he did die again, and thus the adrenaline shot to his heart muscle, and he revived? I wish you had included Sixx's statement in response to a question of what would he do if he knew he only had a day to live, something like that, and how high would he get? Sixx stated he loved and cherished his sobriety, and would absolutely never relapse, esp if he knew he was about to die. Great answer from a hardcore addict / rocker. Chooses life.
