I purchased my Rock Island Armory 45 4 years ago. I carried the same model in the army and it’s well worth buying.

bare bones model worked just fine for nearly 100 years all over the world saving our men and women and uniform,there is no need to mess with sites that work already

Exactly, I say the same thing. People sometimes say I can't see these sights or something similar. I say you might need your eyes checked out learn to shoot with them, but hey to each there own. I like standard irons personally.

@@kiltedgunsmith im almost 50 ive had a rock island bare ass .45 for a while now.the only change i made was (1) i need glasses.(2) i changed the grips on my 1911 because i wanted it to look like the one my grandpa used in ww2 and my dad in Korea ..if you cant see the sights then you need glasses ,not new hitech bs sights

I have a Rock Island Armory I had about 3 melfunctions during the break in which was about 500 rounds now it shoots amazing no jams no nothing very smooth shooting and it eats up any type of ammo I put through it

Paint the sites change the groups. And that is the best 1911 in that price point. God I wish you could upload a picture...

I use gun sight paint. Glow in the dark paint. Worked in the trenches of WWI good enough for me. On my Gun Budget.

I think the reason they pack the guns in lots of grease is because they are stored in humid warehouses in The Philippines

2 things: 1) bought mine a couple days ago , went to range today, I absolutely love it. Smooth, accurate, fun. 2) what is the brand of magazine that you bought.

I like the original sights better. No hangup when holstering, very smooth lines. Natural pointing just bring up the front the barrel and point towards target. So natural and easy to do. But you can roll a coffee can all day from 25 yds out using those same sights. Tiny front blade put into tiny rear notch and that along with the wonderful trigger which is key.

Exactly, keep it simple and I love it too

I agree, the newer trendy fancier sites look very tacky in my opinion on such a classic!

Getting some feeding issues with mine. Already cleaned the gun and feed ramp. Buying a Wilson combat magazine, hopefully that will help.
@kiltedgunsmith2 жыл бұрын
What kind of ammo are you using? Also is it smashing the rounds in our how is it malfunctioning?
@mr.horseshoe23012 жыл бұрын
Federal 230gr FMJ and 164gr JHP. The FMJs were mostly fine, but getting the occasional cartridge stuck on the feed ramp. The hollow points kept getting stuck in the feed ramp after 3 or 4 shots. I'll try again when the WC mag comes in.
@kiltedgunsmith2 жыл бұрын
@@mr.horseshoe2301 so 1911s are finicky with hollow points due do the curve shape and grooves of the bullet. And if they are flat nose bullets they can cause feed issues. But it also possibly could be the mag. Let me know how it works out
@ulfson2792 жыл бұрын
@@mr.horseshoe2301 If it's brand new it takes a break in period... When it comes to 1911s fmj round nose are the best thing to use... Also when it comes to the mags I've seen the orientation of the spring being backwards and the rounds nose drop and get caught in the mag or it will catch on the edge of the casing... Or even will clear the mag and the back of the round will be pushed up but the front of the round will push downward into the feed ramp... Check the spring inside of the mag and it the cut off of the spring is facing backwards then just flip it around... A few different solutions for the same issue but I hope it helps

Where is the RI 45 manufactured? Great video by the way
@kiltedgunsmith9 ай бұрын
They are made in the Philippines, back in ww2 Colt had plants there for the war. After the war they sold everything to rock Island so essentially they're cheaper colts. The first rock Island actually had Colt markings which was illegal so there extra rare and sought after

What kind of accuracy do you get with yours? I have the same model and have yet to fire it. I figure as long as the groupings are within an inch at 15 yards that should be sufficient for home defense.
@kiltedgunsmith Жыл бұрын
It's pretty accurate, I would say about an inch at 15 if very reasonable. Hell, I was able to hit an 8in plate at 100 yds with it. Took about 6rds to figure where I was impacting, but once I seen where it was hitting I hit it on the next round. With this gun I would say the accuracy is based on the shooters skills

@kiltedgunsmith2 жыл бұрын
Most of the information is for beginners however talking about the sights you got to make sure your get the right size for the dovetail. If you already know that's 👍 great for you.
