Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner are my favorite guitar duo of all time.

I could listen to these guys talk all night. Rock-N-Roll Animal and Lou Reed Live are the most musical guitar virtuoso rock albums of all time. The way Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner took Lou Reed's bare-bones songs and turned them into epic melodies is absolutely phenomenal.

This was and still is my #1 guitar duo performance. A truly amazing live album.

Their description of "what it's like" is something I really appreciate. When it happens, and it can happen both onstage and alone practicing, you realize that all the other practicing and playing you did and do isn't fully "making music", but more like developing the skills to MAYBE make music some other time. It's a floating feeling, with no anxiety, and the listening and appreciating part of the mind is very focused, and the "Holy eff! What do I do next?" part of the mind is quiet. This has only happened to me, I dunno, 10 or 15 times (I never attained higher than semi-pro, and had long periods of inactivity due to family & work), but they were precious moments. It astounds me to think that the better pros actually get into that zone night after night.

There is no bigger band!! still!! people still think they played every note specifically from rehearsals. I could always tell rock and roll animal the show that went onto the record, was one of those nights when you play with your band and everything goes smooth without mistakes and while you are noticing this you pull your band mates in, with you. Anyone having played in a band knows this feeling. I have heard a lot of bootlegs of this band, to know that before there was the vinyl album, they were still trying to piece it all together. As a result of this they learned how to improvise the same songs every night. This all resulted in the Howard Stein recording of Lou Reed's first gold record in his career: Rock and roll Animal. Lou Reed Live is the addition to Rock and roll animal. Not quite the same...in sound and here Dick and Steve are reversed in the stereo spectrum. Still you can hear the band rocking out some Transformer and Berlin tracks. It wasn't only about the re-arranging of the Velvet Underground songs, Dick also re-arranged the Transformer and Berlin tracks. Dick Wagner's words from his book Not only women bleed "The best band in the land"! Alice Cooper was next in 1975. haha
