Joe’s diagnostic skills continue to amaze me. I mean seriously, he’s not even in the room and he knows exactly what the problem is!

I have noticed when "joe" does get "STUMPED", he knows how to dig into the problem and not give up. he has really good trouble-shooting skills, and if you notice he always has his best friend with him------- the" multi-meter", and a good knowledge of system function, and a good set of eyes!!!!

I read or was told something that has served me very well over the years. … It was “the greatest diagnostic tool you have is … your eyes” I have found this to be absolutely true, and I notice that it works for you too Ronnie. Great how you managed to work out it just wasn’t sitting right. Problem diagnosed by: your eyes! The eyes have it. Great series of videos. Thanks for the education Ronnie.

Caps filter low audio frequency, coils filter high frequency. The caps on the upper speakers are there to filter out bass, and there are probably coils on the lower ones to filter out treble.

Microswitches are good for many many operations, but don't last forever. I had an AMI Continental II that would intermittantly burn up it's bow record side select solenoid. It ended up being a microswitch that was stuck in the NC position, which kept coil voltage on all the time when it was supposed to just pulse the solenoid to tell the bow mech which side of the record to play. Replaced the microswitch, (and the solenoid) and it was good to go.

A friend of mine showed me that if you put bad microswitches in isopropyl alcohol and click them a couple thousand times, they work as good as new. Now you just gotta ask yourself the question if the switch is worth your time. In my case, it takes me the same amount of time to locate a matching switch from the bin as cleaning it in alcohol.
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade Жыл бұрын
yes I think it would clean up, but like you said I'm ready to move on to a new switch... and this one was brittle too so it was on it's last legs in my opinion :) I was going to try to clean it if I got it open without breaking it.

if you want to keep the "METAL" case, just remove it and put it on your new plastic case starter, they do come apart, or remove the "GLOW SWITCH/CAP" from the old starter and use the "GUTS" from your new starter. the other big problem is the availability of "IRON CORE BALLAST". I have that stuff, I stocked up when they were still available( metal case starters too). also if you have a lamp that is at the end of its life cycle(preheat type) do not leave the "BLINKING LIGHT" in circuit, you will kill the starter/ballast.

the relay coils are fed D.C. voltage for reasons of" fast pick up time"/ release time due to a diode that is in parallel with the coil blocking the inverse voltage( cuts way down on contact bounce), and the 60 hz hum that can be generated at the relay armature if fed A.C. voltage, esp. if the "SHADING COIL" is open. contact bounce is really bad on A.C. voltage relays, and if you have a relay that uses one of the contacts as a "LATCH CIRCUIT" and the relay only gets a pulse to the coil, it can get missed because the relay did not have enough time to "PULL IN". also , there is no shading coil in a "D.C." operated relay, cutting down on cost.. large relays are used in high current switching applications, such as starting/stopping record platter motors/ motors that drive the record magazine basket, record gripper arm, record tone arm( same motor).
