Ooooo! I have a bunch of alcohol inks and blending solution. Just no gesso. I will add that to my shopping list. I want to give this a try and the paint pour too.

I hope you enjoy and have fun... if you don’t have gesso, you can use: white paint, house wall primer, white chalk paint... no need to go buy gesso especially for this project... thanks for watching.

What is the black pad you rub on the cricut vinyl stickers to make them show up on the rock?
@RocktasticArts4 жыл бұрын
It’s something like a credit card, anything hard to press down with on the vinyl to make sure it sticks well

You should try using “blending solution” instead of rubbing alcohol. You will use less ink, your colors will spread and blend better, and stay vibrant. We did a test to see if there was a difference.....absolutely HUGE difference. You will use far less solution as well. It doesn’t evaporate as fast as the alcohol, permitting the inks to blend. Alcohol pushed inks away washing the color out. I think you’ll be impressed once you try it. Thanks

I totally agree, I actually didn’t have bending solution at the time I did the video, but I bought it after I did the video, and I love the way it works... thanks for your comment.

what type of blending solution would you recommend?

Maureen Downey ranger/Tim holtz is common and found in craft stores as well as online

They also came out with pearl alcohol inks that work on black backgrounds, I am in the process of filming a video to show the solution and the new shiny inks 💕

Rocktastic Arts I like the pearl inks as well.

If they are properly sealed, could they be placed outside? Thank you so much.
@RocktasticArts4 жыл бұрын
Yes they can, but alcohol ink specifically fades from the sun, but I’ve had some for three years indoor away from the sun and they still look just as good as when they were made. So I wouldn’t put alcohol ink rocks outside

What brand and type of gesso did you use in the video?
@RocktasticArts4 жыл бұрын
It’s the one from Michaels, Artist Loft brand, it was the best value I could find.

Hi, what is sprayed on occasionally, in that little white bottle on the left?
@RocktasticArts5 жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie, it’s 91% alcohol to help spread the ink, and give the ink some texture. Thanks for watching

Hello, I have watched this video several times. I love your rocks. I finally tried it this evening. I don't know what I did wrong, but mine are a big globby mess. lol I am using natural rocks. I first tried base coating with gesso as you did. I put a couple of coats on it, sprayed with 91% alcohol and applied inks. The ink globbed up and the paint peeled off. The second time, I base coated with white folkart paint. I sprayed with 91% alcohol again as you did, applied colors and more alchohol, but my ink isn't moving and blending as yours did. The only thing I can think is that I bought the pearl ones instead of regular. The brand is ranger. Do you think that could be the problem? Thanks

Hi Lorie, the pearls are very very different, they are much harder to use than the non pearl inks. I have a video coming out hopefully this weekend on the pearls. They are so beautiful but they don’t move at all. You can use a straw to blow it around or just put dots all around, it tends to stay where you put it, but make sure the surface you are painting is a flat surface. With the regular inks, you can also blow them around, it makes it so much easier - I just didn’t want to blow on camera. I hope all this helps, don’t give up, keep trying. 😊

I Purchased some ranger alcohol inks today that are just regular and not the pearl. I’m going to give it another try. If I have really dark rocks, is it OK to do more than one coat of white paint, or if I get too much paint will it peel?

Hi, this is awesome! Thanks for sharing. What is the percentage of the rubbing alcohol that should be used?
@RocktasticArts5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, my pleasure... I’ve tried 99% and 70%, and there was no difference in the outcome. I would say use whatever you have available... it all works well.
