PMS stands for Perempuan Merdeka Seutuhnya [ women who are completely independent ] The lyrics contain a protest against discriminatory and judgmental attitudes which are often directed at women who have mindsets, perspectives, attitudes and desires or dreams that are different from the general norm in the mainstream. VOB made their new song a celebration for women who have succeeded in breaking down this stereotype and represent the voices of women from various regions that are still heavily influenced by social norms wrapped in patriarchal values🖤 This single was written by Marsya (vocals and guitar), Widi (bass), and Sitti (drums) when the three of them were still in high school in 2017. “We wrote this song with the leftover energy from school. The thing is, at that time it happened that school activities were hectic. So after school, we gathered in the studio for a workshop on this song," Marsya said in a press release🖤

I, too, am addicted to this band. They seem to have revived that punk spirit that essentially died about 1986. Now, as for production, I see rock studio recordings as simply starting points for future interpretations onstage. Once out of the studio and the temptation to overproduce and overdub endlessly, it finally comes alive, with all of the rough edges that are what make rock (punk particularly) what it is. These girls are extremely talented and have put in a lot of work to hone their skills. That said, I've always said that the most exciting and important rock is that which is being made by a bunch of kids banging out their favourite tunes in the back of the garage or filthy basement, as opposed to over-talented, superslick musicians on a massive stage in front of a hundred thousand people.

It basically is a song about being a free and independent woman, and not only being able to choose what you want to do with your life (a choice not always available in some countries), but also to be respected for making that choice. There is an older version of this song floating around YT where there are no harmonies, it's just a live session recording and it's a few years old. Looks like they went into a studio and did a proper recording of this song. Initially I preferred the old version but this one has grown on me.

You know Strongdad, I just commented on a post related to Band-Maid on the Warning Army channel, about your take on the harmonization VOB did on this song and crediting you for that, cause it was and Eureka moment for me that I didn't think of before. I mean, it really takes the song to another level and I think this is why Band-Maid hasn't been that appealing to me. I mean both VOB and Band-Maid are great great bands - musicians, but if they implement tharmonization more often would at least for me be a huge. Great song by VOB, really liked a lot.
