Those are such lovely words Kels ...Beautiful lyrics by someone who is so sentimental, passionate and humble. As a older person, I too, love this song as it expounds what is so important in life which is giving of oneself for whatever reason and thinking of others. Bill may have been a private man but he saw the virtues of sharing and the beauty that surrounds us that we sometimes choose not to see.

Bill Withers passed away on March 30th, 2020 at the age 81 {heart failure}... Between 1971 and 1985 the Slab Fork, West Virginia native had twenty three records on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart, seven made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Lean On Me", for one week in June of 1972... Three of his twenty three charted records were duets, one each with Bobby Womack {"It's All Over Now", #68 in 1975}, Grover Washington, Jr., {"Just The Two of Us", #3 in 1981} and Ralph McDonald {"In The Name of Love", #13 in 1984}... Besides "Lean On Me", his six other Top 10 records were "Ain't No Sunshine" {#6 in 1971}, "Use Me" {#2 in 1972}, "Make Love Your Thing" {#10 in 1975}, "Lovely Day" {#6 in 1977}, the above "Just The Two of Us", and the above "In The Name of Love"... If God can save a wretch like me then he can save u too! Accept Jesus as your savior today and be born again 💓he loves u so much!!!!!!

You are right, I remember it well. I'm from Texas and NOBODY had air conditioning in those early days. While you were out playing, you heard this music wafting out of the windows of almost every house you passed by. (You also smelled whatever that family was having for dinner____shout out to FRIED CHICKEN!). If they had the radio on, here's the call letters we would hear in Texas: WLAC from Nashville Tenn, WNOE from New Orleans, WOAI from San Antonio, and the mighty KOKA_____K.O.K.A. in Shreveport Louisiana. These stations broadcast signal would reach us in East Texas, and we heard every one of those artists and dozens more ALL THE TIME. sadly, we had no idea this would change. If we did, we would have stopped it.

The amount of Love that he had when a society was ready to put him away and he ran like the care that he knew would capture a world . He was ahead of his time. A real in depth with all that was around him and he used it with just being him and noticed . He should be in a hall of fame for his art and it does not matter , that man will always be in mine for the music and the lyrics that he wrote.

For the comments that John Legend took over and sang over him here goes: Quoted directly from an interview done by Rolling Stones on Mr. Withers; He hasn’t ruled out a performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in April, though. “There are things that will decide that for me,” he says, mysteriously. Says Marcia (Bill Wither's Wife), “I know he doesn’t like how older people sound when they sing. I don’t push him. People say that I enable him, but he’s just over it. “

As a new soldier in Germany, I had big adjustments not only to being in the Army but also a new country. I was a perfectionist and always wanted to do everything right. That made me miserable and likely made those close to me miserable as well. I remember 4 young enlisted soldiers in my battery came into my room didn't say a word, began singing this song and didn't say anything afterwards and left. I sat there and enjoyed the song and was shocked and in awe of the whole message. This was a gift from them to me. I was more bearable and allowed myself to be more relaxed after that. Thank you, you know who you are!!!
