Thank you for posting this video. James Burton certainly deserved this great award and he didn't have time to name everyone important in his life so leave it be. He is very modest and humble as well . Cheers, Shari

I play the piano,and many years ago I had the privilege of meeting Johnnie Johnson - he actually played my keyboard. What a kind and gracious man, and one of the proudest moments of MY life is that I got to tell him what his music meant to me.

I remember hearing Keith say he suspected the "Chuck Berry songs" were really Johnnie Johnson songs because of the way the music was structured. He said the chords and keys were all piano chords and keys because they're more difficult to play on guitar than they would have been had the music been written by Chuck. What a sincere, humble man! Same for JB. We wouldn't have much of early rock 'n roll had it not been for James Burton and, later the LA Wrecking Crew, who played on most of the 45s.

No rock and roll pianoplayer could bring out the best from other musicans, like JoJo. I meet him on a few occasions and the man was humble, humorous andvery, very kind. We all miss him, and he deserved this award very much, and remember, it was on Chuck Berry´s suggestions they made a sidemen award !
@eg44494 жыл бұрын
I wasn't aware Chuck campaigned for Johnnie in the HOF. I thought it was Keith who pushed for sidemen honors and helped focus others on Johnnie Johnson's impact. In fact it was Stones keyboardist Ian Stewart who brought Keith's attention to him.

Johnnie Johnson, the greatest Rock & Roll/Boogie-Woogie/Blues pianist in the history of music, driving a motherfucking bus for senior citizens. Fuckin' music BUSINESS sucks.

When Johnson talks about driving the bus, it looks like Keith is in tears. Very emotional moment.

Well I've been a music fan and ex musician for many years from the mid 60's and I'd never really heard of James Burton till I found KZbin a few years ago, and Johnie Johnson till just now. To think that Chuck Berry joined his band! And he was driving buses.

@Mikepleith4 жыл бұрын
Johnny said it was Keith who found him in 1986 driving a bus but it was Ian Stewart who told Keith he was alive and in St. Louis - Ian told Keith this right before he died in 1985 - Stu the 6th Stone!!!

Johnnie Johnson...he played piano on - as but one example- 'Sweet Little Sixteen' ! Like all Chuck Berry songs it's a cornerstone of rock'n'roll, an American classic and incredibly significant in popular culture. Wonder if the senior citzs' of St Louis knew who their driver was.....

What a humble man.....THE REAL KING OF ROCK AND ROLL......Johnnie created the music, (meanining the rock and roll riff....da, da da da, da, da, da, Chuck was the first man to adapt it to guitar......Johnnie was humble enough to sit in the background rocking the piano while Chuck had the limelight......sadly, most people don't know this, they think Elvis, or Chuck is the king.....its Johnnie.

Without Johnny Johnson, Chuck Berry may not have made it. Maybe. Johnny's the unsung hero of Chuck's second gen Rock 'n Roll. Johnny boosted Chuck up into the throne, the King of Rock 'n Roll. Building on first gen Rock... Teddy Bunn, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Goree Carter, Tiny Webb, Gatemouth Brown, Bill Jennings, T-Bone Walker and many more... Chuck strategically targeted his Rock attack on Jim Crow and led the integration of audiences when lynching was incalculably commonplace. And Johnny was the patient, solid, always reliable-when-sober backup man. Together they created rowdy, rebellious masterpieces. And Chuck was the genius vernacular poet and composer with the instigating stage presence; he made Little Richard jealous and maddened Jerry Lee Lewis' racism. Johnny and Chuck each had their demons, Chuck passive-aggressively changing key to confuse, show up, and embarrass his band, but Johnny hung in there and the higher consciousness and joy they gave the world are timeless. And still broadcasting in outer space, I believe literally. If not, figuratively. But surely. -Doug Pratt, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
