its so good! I've gone through so many overdrives...this one is too this...too that....not enough mids....too little mids....not enough low end.... to shrill in the high end.....THIS overdrive fixed all of that. Dead on transparent at very low settings (if you want it to be), and I love how subtle it can be. But turn up the gain and you can really dial in any EQ you want. Any guitar with any amp for almost any situation. Scooped mids for a great second channel for a blackface amp, mids forward for great solo boost, wah frequencies....treble boost....thick low end....so many great tones.

how close or apart is it from the core sound of the melody?

Completely different. The Rockaway is a Klon with an EQ, more open and raw. The Melody is smooth and compressed

The melody is compressed like a tube screamer and dumble sounding. However, playing with the eq on the melody you can get a bit more open sounding. Both are amazing pedals and I got one after using a green rhino mark iv that has the 2 frequency boost/cuts. I never used a regular eq pedal and i really liked those frequency adjusters on the rhino so i figured id try the rockaway and melody where theres a lot more frequencies to control and now I realize im an idiot for not using eqs sooner. So much you can do. I personally like the rockaway better than the melody but its a pure preference thing. If you like more SRV type tones get the melody. If you like a klon and bluesbreaker get the rockaway. Now I wish someone would make some eq drives with some other famous drives like some of the bjorn drives like the sweet honey or the green distortion machine or maybe someone could make a RAT with a 6 band eq.

Great tones. Just a suggestion but the camera angle blocks the labeling on the two knobs.
