Just like his father....wolf's first instrument was the drums. He since learned every instrument and plays them all on the recordings. This video is a follow up to his last one for "Don't Back Down" in which he plays all the parts. This video introduced his road band. He is amazing and funny as hell. Dive in and you will see his "chops" he tries very hard to show who he is beyond the massive shadow of his father.

Alex Van Halen was more influential than Eddie. In the early years. Talking like age 10-15. He said he was a drummer first. But he is a multi-instrumentalist savant. And love him and love your reaction.

Watch "Don't Back Down" It's when we meet the wolfies. He plays everything on the records. Here we meet his live band. Mammoth was the name of VH when it was a trio with Ed singing. Pre DLR. It's all about the songwriting. And it's incredibly solid. A drummer first. Live his vocals are spot on. It's freakish. Welcome to the Mammoth journey. I think it's going to be fun.

Wolf has said in many interviews that he’s largely self taught on guitar. Says his dad wasn’t a good teacher because when Wolf would ask him how to do something he’d just say “do this” and proceed to be Eddie Van Halen - and Wolf would just be like “I can’t do that” 😂

1. Wolfgang, yes, knows all the instruments his Dad taught him since infancy, starting with drums and piano. 2. EVERY single sound you are hearing is ALL Wolfgang. What you are seeing is his band when he plays live. 3. See him live, this guy can not only play but seriously SING! (Source: Saw him live) 4. He adds a lot of humor into his videos which I appreciate. 5. When you were hoping to hear some badass solo after the *ahem* badass tapping solo, he is not trying to do his dad's songs, but his own type of music. You want to know how he steps out of his dad's shadow? By not doing a crazy solo every song, but honestly I think he's still killing it.

Speaking of genetics, his uncle Alex Van Halen is one of rock's great drummers. Wolf is an excellent drummer himself.

He started as a drummer with his uncle, Alex Van Halen. Played bass with Van Halen when he was 15. Also with Tremonti. Nature and nurture. His mom is Valerie Burtenelli, an actress.

Answer your question at the beginning first of all, I don’t think it’s fair to say one way to be a musician is better than another, because there are cases where musicians have put in the work hours, and they have no musical knowledge beforehand, and they are great musicians. I grew up in the musical family myself, so I kind of understand the whole blood thing, and I’ve been a musician myself for 26 years, but my dad only played the drums for a short time, and I have played them for most of my life.. secondly, this is all wolf I mean the drums, the guitars, the bass keyboards, everything and this song just kicks freaking butt. And Wolfgang did say in an interview that he plans on making this album a bit heavier than his last because the first one he was just testing the waters to see what he could do and how everyone will react.

Check out Mammoth "Distance" (Have a tissue ready) You'll see how early he learned. As others have already said: His first album and now his second he's working on, he does EVERYTHING. Writing/all instruments/singing/producing etc. This video just introduces his touring band. Even though Distance was nominated for a Grammy for Distance (he lost) he does not get enough credit for as much talent as he has. One thing Wolf has said in interviews is that he's his own man and plays his own type of music. He did make an exception during the tribute to Taylor Hawkins. He said something like "If people expect me to get on stage and sing Panama they are going to be disappointed" As for tapping. That is a way back art that was perfected by Eddie....with a little help (lesson) from Brain May.

Everything you hear on a MammothWVH album is Wolf. Everything. All parts of all songs and instruments. He used this video to “introduce “ his Touring guys. But his albums are all him.

You should check out Distance from Mammoth WVH it's a tribute to Eddie it shows Eddie playing piano w Wolfgang on his lap at like age 4 months so your idea that he was influenced by Eddie you'll see constantly having music also started on drums Eddie never learned how to read music he just had an ear for it n that's why Eddie was so different Eruption was Eddie warming up n producer heard it n said we're recording that
