Guys, Saturday Night Wrist has the lowest points of Deftones and also ones of the most sublime, as much as Pink Cellphone drags the album down, Beware, Cherry Waves, Xerces, Kimdracula and Riviere just transport Deftones to whole new state of art and inspiration, and there are also cool tracks like Hole In The Earth and Combat, chill tracks like Konami Code and Mein, I mean the album is extremist as hell, and it's fun, and it's unique, gold hands down

There are no bad Deftones albums. They're all good in their own way. The best thing about this band is that each album is so different than the last. I can't wait for the new album. They also need to release the Eros sessions as an EP. The fans need to hear Chi's last contributions before he passed away. RIP Chi. We love and miss you.

I'd love to see you rank System of a Down albums. They have exactly 5 albums.... I jumped into Deftones at Koi No Yokan and when I hit Diamond Eyes it blew my mind! Instant love for this band. I saw them live in Vegas in a hot summer outdoor stage and the bassist was DRENCHED with sweat he became a human waterfall, but they all rocked throughout and the crowd was crazy for them! That set was incredibly long too, nearly 2 hours and then Rise Against performed. Good times.

around the fur has got to be the best deftones album, truly. my own summer, be quiet and drive are masterpeices but then dai the flu, around the fur, mascara, lhabia, are just good but my least favorites have got to be rickets and MX songs I couldnt get into. Amazing album overall and this rating is surprising to me, Gold to me honestly. Lotion and Headup are so good as well, its just actual raw metal to me with the screams and everything.

Just gotta say two things. 1: I'm SO happy you guys mentioned Entombed, that song is way too slept on. I put that song on my chill playlists that I don't let metal touch because it's such a calming song. But 2: I'm equally sad that you didn't mention Rosemary. That song, imo, makes that whole album. I am a big 8 string guy so maybe that plays into it, but damn, that song sends chills down my spine every time I hear it and it leads so well into Goon Squad, kind of like the storm after the calm. Totally agree. Koi No Yokan is by far my favorite album they’ve done so far. The entire album is way too underrated. I know it’s more humble compared to White Pony and Diamond Eyes, but that’s what makes me appreciate it so much more. It’s an evolution, but not an abandonment of what they’ve done before. Gore was a little off to some, but I love it as well. Ohms feels like a perfect blend of them though. What’s your opinion of it, and where would you rank it now that it’s out?

That's cool man. Always enjoy seeing people giving them a try & getting it. Where to start depends on personal taste. They have a plethora of different sounds. White Pony's a masterpiece & was not a bad middle ground if you like rhythm mixed w/ heavy. For a full album, I suggest Diamond Eyes next, though don't know if it has a top 10 song. Just very few weak spots. Rosemary, Tempest, Battle-Axe, Needles & Pins, Deathblow, Hearts/Wires, Phantom Bride, Smile, My Own Summer, & Dai The Flu from others are epic.

There are more hidden gems in Adrenaline than some folks give credit for. Engine N.o. 9, 7 Words, Birth Mark to name some. The reason I don't like Gore as much as other records is the lyrical content. It pushes past the poetic style that Chino goes for to the point that it just comes across like bad beat poetry. Half the time it just comes across like he's picking random words from the dictionary. I respect it for being experimental but for me it just doesn't pay off enough. But I guess I can't complain when they've got such a great discography!

As a huge Deftones fan, this was such a great rundown. I think most of these were ranked well. The crazy thing is Deftones' worst is better than 95% of bands. I agree their first and most recent are their weakest, but still solid albums. Heck, Rubicon off of Gore may be one of my favorite Deftones songs. I feel Around The Fur is Gold-tier, on the same level as Koi No Yokan. Be Quiet and Drive is my all-time favorite song and then My Own Summer is on the same album too!!! A lot of amazing deep cuts too. Love Dai The Flu, Mascara, and the hidden track Damone too. White Pony and Diamond Eyes are definitely the best. Both are on their own tier in Platinum. Saturday Night Wrist is Silver to me with the Self-Titled. That album has so many memorable songs. I think if they didn't put that weird shit in Pink Cellphone, people wouldn't knock the album so much. Heck, that song is even groovy before the ending turns it into a joke. I think it's on par with Koi No Yokan as their best atmospheric work. Beware, Xerces, UUDD, Kimdracula, and Riviere are all amazing along with Hole In The Earth. There are some rougher songs on that album like Rats! Rats! Rats! that's a bit grating and Mein which may be my least favorite song by them (outside of the weird Pink Cellphone ending) but it also has some of my favorite work by them. Also, I will not stand for Back to School (Mini Maggit) hate!!! (Haha jk). I honestly think it's a decent song. It's amazing that a song they made out of spite sounds as good as it did. A true testament to them. In the end, I would go: Platinum: 1. White Pony 2. Diamond Eyes Gold: 3. Around The Fur 4. Koi No Yokan Silver: 5a. Deftones 5b. Saturday Night Wrist Bronze: 7. Boy you were RIGHT about Saturday Night Wrist defend. It is probably my second favorite Deftones album after White Pony. I also really love Around the Fur and Diamond Eyes. But the self-titled is to me what SNW is to you. I don't care much for some stuff in there, but there's also fantastic songs like Minerva. SNW though, i pretty much love all of it. It's very experimental like Chino's side project Team Sleep, which i'm also big fan of. Lot of playing with dream pop and trip hop sounds, i'm just into that. And some of the all time best Deftones material like Cherry Waves, my goodness it's glorious. I will defend it to death.

Completely agree. I can understand why it's so polarizing. It's a very despondent and experimental record and with that comes a super heavy atmosphere that is an admittedly tough pill to swallow. But there is just nothing else like it. I have yet to hear another album that makes me feel the things this album does and I love everything about it. Yes, there is Pink Cellphone, but what makes that track so fascinating is the psyches of the band behind it. They were messed up at the time and that song really reflects that.

HARDER STUFF: Around The Fur, Lovers, Diamond Eyes, Adrenalin. SOFTER EDGE: Gore EXPERIMENTAL: Ero's, Saturday Night Wrist(Bob Ezrin Sessions, Demos/Outakes), B-Sides and Rarities Vol. 1-2. Note: There are of course some harder/softer songs and experimental stuff on most albums this is just the way i see them for the most part. I am also very surprised that a lot of comments favor Diamond Eyes(a seriously rushed album where the new bassist sounded bad and was still trying to level up his playing to Chi's grooves in my opinion instead of praising Koi No Yokan witch to me is the closest we'll get to White Pony's polish and sounding like the whole album is a mix beginning to end rather then rather than just randomly slammed songs on the album in my opinion(That said i still think Diamond Eyes Rocks!).

This is the first time I have ever COMPLETELY agreed with a ranking of Deftones albums. Perfect analysis, even down to the 3 standouts on Gore. I hated that album at first, but those 3 songs definitely brought me back around and I would put it right where you did now. Phantom Bride is ones of their greatest all time songs. Nice job.

As you're talking about the "secret bonuses" on cds and how only rock bands did that, i have to tell you. If you are fans of OutKast, their second album Atliens has probably the single coolest booklet i've ever seen. They got their own little comic strip in that muthafucka! I have the cd, i also got White Pony and i did discover the video game. It's awesome! Has an 8 bit version of My Own Summer playing in the background 😃 I have kept all my cds and i still collect them. It's a fun hobby, and i still get a thrill (not as big as back in the day, but still) which i cannot get from using Spotify. I will NEVER give it up if i don't have to. I would buy vinyls but too expensive and, i have such a big cd stack already. Had my first age 9... It was RHCP's Californication.

Saturday night wrist: this album really never clicked with me, really underwhelming, it's not bad, they have never made a bad album, but it's not very fun an anyway, I don't come back much, kimdracula still has some great screams 8. Gore: this album is good, but I'm burnt out from hearing so much, not my desicion, but one day my dad stuck the disk in but then it got stuck, every car ride we were forced to hear it because we can only listen to CD's on the radio, phantom bride never gets old though 7. Adrenaline: pretty damn decent, but like Luke said, Chino had a baby voice, very undeveloped sound, yet they still knew what they wanted to do, make catchy riffs, with awkward rapping and screams, engine no. 9 has a amazing riff 6. Diamond eyes: this album is great, but not as strong as some of their other releases, some of the songs really stand out, like "Royal" or "sextape" while some songs are more laid back and weird yet great, sextape is my favorite deftones song period 5. Ohms: Deftones has achieved a balance, no songs are bad, like a jigsaw puzzle, it all fits together, definitely a step up from Gore in many ways, better writing, not very repetitive, overall great, ceremony is captivating 4. Koi no yokan: koi and the self-titled are both at a four for me but self-titled is better, swerve city was the intro song for me that got me like "ok, so this what deftones is" 3. Deftones: underrated in terms of the rest of their albums, Lucky you kinda made me like "do I want to listen to all of this" but bloody cape changed my mind and I continued, really great, bloody cape, all I gotta say 2. White pony: y'all know number 1, so try to believe the 1 pick for a moment... Ok, done, good 1. AROUND THE FUR: Chino found his voice, the drumming is great, bass is great, and the rest is amazing 👍

Damn, no love for Combat, RATS!RATS!RATS!, Kimdracula, fucking Riviere?! Y'all out here doing SNW dirty. It is such a moody, dark record, and has so many heavy yet beautiful moments. Hell, I'll even throw Pink Cellphone on some rare times (although I almost always skip the ending). In contrast, Gore was my first Deftones record on vinyl, and as much as I enjoy it, I find it much more forgettable than even Adrenaline, and the production doesn't help things imo. I basically agree with the rest of the list. Do tier lists for Gojira and Converge next!
