Rocker step is a super nice move but many of these are travels - most of them lift their pivot foot before the ball is released. It is never called nor caught during street ball, oh well.
@CoachFrikki3 жыл бұрын
100% true. However the same applies to every single strongside rip. Every time you drive right after jabbing w/ right foot it is technically a travel. High rip, low rip, after a shot fake, rocker step or after palming it in one hand. It's always a travel if you take the first dribble w/ your right hand. But it's a code of honor to not call that split second difference. The move is too ingrained in basketball culture that everyone lets it slide. Except for damn FIBA refs. Nobody watches the game to see travel calls because somebody lifted his pivot 0.05 seconds before the ball left his hand.

@@CoachFrikki That’s untrue. You just have to release the ball first. That’s completely bad information. You can dribble with either hand. The foot needs to stay down, release the ball, and go. No travel.
@michaelmanning24482 жыл бұрын
It’s a huge advantage, and a violation, when the player steps with the pivot to seal off the defender before releasing the ball. I could get a bucket every time if that wasn’t called.

Under FiBA rules every on side dribble is a travel, because the pivot foot is lifted off the floor before the ball leaves then hand. Ball leaves the hand is defined by ball has contact with the hand. They should redefine the definition for "ball has left the hand" from ball has contact with hand to player does not have control over the ball by holding with either one or two hands! This would make the rocker step legal and basketball more enjoyable for everyone. Please share this idea and comment. Thank you
@CoachFrikki2 жыл бұрын
You are correct. I don't see it as a problem though as it is. I think FIBA refs should stop calling it. Because if you're gonna call this you're gonna call 50+ travels every game.

How is that move not a travel? Half of the time the pivot is being loved before the dribble
@MarconiMenezes2 жыл бұрын
What makes this move unguardable is that it is, in fact, a traveling violation. The pivot foot is lifted from the floor way before the ball leaves the hands of the player in 95% (if not 100%) of the clips. This gives the attacking player a huge, and illegal, advantage. It may be tolerated in the NBA and other levels of basketball in the USA because of the "showtime" appeal, but it's not tolerated by FIBA in the rest of the world. The move would not be nearly as deadly if the players respected the traveling rule. Maybe you should add this disclaimer in the description of the video, for your international viewers. I see officials calling these mistakes 10 times a game even in the lower age leagues! :-)
@MarconiMenezes2 жыл бұрын
@@CoachFrikki I'm not sure I understood your point... they're dribbling, not shooting. Yes, you can lift the pivot foot to shoot or pass, as long as the ball leaves your hand before the foot returns to the floor. This is what makes the step through and the layup legal moves. But they are not shooting or passing in these clips, they are dribbling the ball after lifting the pivot foot, which is illegal. Again, maybe it's fine in the NBA or other categories in the USA, so those players can benefit from learning and using this move. But the rest of the world should be advised not to use it, it's an obvious traveling in FIBA.
@CoachFrikki2 жыл бұрын
@@MarconiMenezes Sorry I thought you were commenting on my step through video. Yeah you are 100% right that this technically a travel. Should it be called? Not in my opinion, that would make the game unwatchable. And it's almost never called in FIBA either.

You can't really read the defense on a rocker step, cause it happens too fast. But you can read the defense by testing a jab step, if and how he/she reacts.
@CoachFrikki3 жыл бұрын
You can read the defense before the rocker step. Based on how he stands can make an educated guess on how much he'll bite on that lefty fake. Comes with experience. But like you say starting with a testing jab (like a lot of players did in the video) makes reading him much easier. But not always possible in a fast 5v5 game.

@@levinyucel8594 It’s just the release. A dribble starts with the ball leaving the hand, the bounce is irrelevant. And it ends when you pick it up with two, or it touches two after the dribble, or you pin it to your hip etc. Also putting your hand underneath the ball ends a dribble.
