I was a member of Splashdown, the girl with the shades. It was an honour to represent Coventry as the main band at that time on Rockers Road Show on Channel 4. We were all very, very working class musicians who were given an amazing opportunity by Micheal Cambell (Mikey Dread) to perform on his Rockers Roadshow Series on Channel TV. Mickey was an amazing man, incredibly generous, kind, loving and most of all he really wanted to promote British local acts and show them on mainstream tv, possibly giving them the opportunity to sign to a major label (well we all know that just doesn’t happen but hey ho). I cherish this because MC was such an incredible human being, I love his music & defy anyone not to LURV Dread at the Controls. RIP Mickey Dread….

I'm a white guy from Dorset and I remember I was 11 or 12 when I used to watch rockers roadshow on a black and white portable TV upstairs and knew nothing about reggae only that I loved it and it was pre Internet and it took work to get any information at all!!! Still love it now and this brings back memories. It was the start of my quest and lead to festivals travelling all over the place to catch shaka whenever I could. The vauxhall viva did some miles for sure
