2017: you can use wavedash as a party trick 2019: wavedash is an essential movement mechanic

It's fascinating to see things develop over the years. What started off as "hey guys, look at this neat thing I can do" is now a staple of high level play... that I totally still struggle to wrap my head around how to pull off let alone actually do in a real game.

I was never aware of the rocket league meta all the years I didn't play it but I find it hard to believe something that lets you move so fast with little boost in this game in which conserving boost is such a crucial thing to do wasn't part of the META since inception.

Honestly I think Musty had a good one for ranks under champion 2ish. Practicing his drill has definitely improved my control, but the problem is control and positioning are enemies as you become much more able to reflexively handle whatever comes.

@ensco75 жыл бұрын
@@EpicVideoCreations Dude, the mechanics you need are not even the "mechanics" people talk about like wave dashes or fast aerials. You can even get to Diamond 3 without fast aerials and to C2 without wave dashes if the rest is really good. The mechanics you need are hitting the ball to get where you want it to be, so just practice shooting and basic recovery like clean forward double jumps and landing in the direction you wanna move. You can't expect to get to Diamond 2 if you haven't played like at least 300 hours btw, so be patient, play more, and you'll see you don't need any like special mechanics to get to D3. And don't think that you're really good at positiong just because people tell you this in Diamond 1. However, if you already rotate far post instead of chasing the ball downfield, don't double commit like half the time and have some faith in your tms to go upfield to be ready for passes, you're indeed better at positioning than most players in your rank.

I went down a bit but didn't see it in the comments, so at risk of being repetitive: I have watched at least 10-15 of these wave dash tutorials and honestly got very little out of them... And then came Virge, with the game-changing side view. That innovation alone made everything I was already doing, make a whole lot of sense. Also the music was a lovely choice, and your description was next level. Thank you for putting in all the time and then essentially gifting away your knowledge and experience to help the community. I am a composer for orchestra and everything else under the sun and would love to give back to you in anyway, should the need arise. I have samples of my work if you want a reference but we can do that through email if it's something you'd be interested in. Obviously it's at no charge to you since you've done so much for all of us. Well done and please keep at it!! Hands down you are one of the best coaches/mentors in the game.

Never heard of wavedash, I did not know that I am doing a fast kick off, did not know that the front spot of your car that sends you in to the air if you hit it is hard to hit. And your videos are helping me to understand what are my opponents doing and that those my discoveries are mechanics that are so complex, if you can chain them. @kylbarry44665 жыл бұрын
it's useful when wavedashing forwards, even without boost, to hold your forward button for a little bit after you jump even without boost. Some people try and lean back too early and end up letting go of the forward button before jumping or pressing the back button just before jumping, this either reduces your maximum acceleration if you don't hold forward as you jump, or if you press back button before jumping you lose quite a bit of your already built up speed since you're braking effectively. I also find it's easier to learn to time the wavedash by counter rotating your car the opposite way you are going to wave dash/flip, lets say a basic forward wavedash. It's very easy to time if you jump while holding foward, then tilt your car very far back, then before you hit the ground then holding the forward button will mean you don't have to time your front flip with the time you decide to press the front key, simply holding the foward button means you only have to press your flip button as soon as you see your back 2 wheels hit the ground, then it'll wave dash. This helped me get the timing for wave dashes which i then proceeded to be able to do wave dashes in all direction while never losing momentum going for the wave dash. another tip is to jump low, you really want to lightly tap your jump button, the higher you jump the more time you're wasting when you could be doing your next wave dash, pros will barely leave the ground when they wave dash. Another thing not that many people know is holding your flip key actually gives you more momentum than just wave dashing and letting go of your flip key fast, so if you don't want to do multiple wave dashes in a row, and don't want to flip after your wave dash, holding your flip key will maximize your speed from said wave dash here's an example gyazo.com/e539a973e22d8c28c217ddfe6c6f7873 . It's also useful for wavedash kickoffs where you have that window of time after the dash and before you flip into the ball, holding your flip key gives you more momentum if that's what you're after in that kick off.
