Leaving an Everyday Astronaut video to watch a Scott Manley Video and leaving that video to watch a BPS video. It’s just a space day and I’m 110% okay with this. Really interested in this since I’m building a rocket motor test stand of my own.

I'm super impressed by your editing. You either A: pitch-shifted the audio of the CNC to match the music or B: made the music to exactly match the footage. Either way it's nuts and I remember something like it in the last video as well. Very cool 👌 Edit: I mean the first footage of the CNC. After it is not matched.

Cool daddy-o. Tip - don't use solder paste. Just tin the pads on the PCB with tin-lead solder. It melts easier and wets better. Use a flux pen on the solder bumps and place your parts, and heat. The parts don't stick well with just some liquid flux so be careful, but it works better and saves the nonsense.

I’m making homemade rocket candy motors on an island in Panama. We got some 3/4” x 1/4” tubes from pyrodirect, potassium nitrate from Panama City, and plug dirt from the ground. I based mine off the King of Random, and I’ve managed to recreate his motors with no plastic; they can degrade in the ocean. I needed Elmer’s glue to keep the gas from working its way around the plugs, popping them out. I am about to do the same test you did but with a spring balance and a camera. I’ll then approximate the mass loss curve off of the force curve ( dm/dt = sqrt(F) ; pretty close) to make a useful model. I plan to make side boosters that pop off with a flip!

Just a minor correction, foil strain gauges function because of the etched trace length stretching longer and narrower, mechanically increasing its electrical resistance. Semiconductor strain gauges are the kind which utilise the peizoresistive effect, where mechanical strain affects the conduction bandgap inside of a semiconductor. The Wheatstone Bridge, which I'm sure you already know and don't mention for brevity, serves the purpose of both converting the resistace value into a readable voltage and accounting for temperature induced expansion and contraction through the use of a second opposing strain gauge to balance the signal. Only after that is it amplified and converted to a digital value.

Pro tip Joe... coolant. And have a look at a speeds and feeds chart. Will help you get the right cutter speed for the feed rate of the machine (how fast the cutter moves across the material). That way you get a smooth finish. Awesome first attempt though!

About the load cell mounts: 2 parts whos job it is to hold a third part to attach to a fourth part that could just have been attached to the fourth part directly is a superfluous part... Since you will have to calibrate the loadcell anyways you could just have drilled it out and mounted it to the frame with a t-slot nut. Uber fancy testrig nontheless!
