I got the R58 v2 right before the 60 was available. I do like to tinker, but I can pull fantastic shots with the 58. I gotta say, there's some great coffee shops in town that use La Marzocco machines and have great baristas, but I can make better shots at home consistently. I love my Rocket machine. Absolutely worth it if you love espresso and enjoy the process of making it.

Thanks Gail. I have an R58 which I upgraded to after a Breville Double Boiler. Absolutely love the machine. Was toying with the R60 but decided I really did not care as much about the pressure profiling.... and saved a little money in the process! These machines are superb and the fit, finish and function is incredibly nice. I'm now (and I shudder at this.....) a Rocket Man.....

1:40 That's an E61 it doesn't have a three way solonoid. The valve that releases the pressure is the base of the pre infusion chamber. You open it by moving the lever to the off position. The pressure differential of atmospheric pressure at the base compared to what was ten bar in the portfilter is what draws the remaining water out for a dry puck. 🤨

QUESTION: Would this machine be able to handle catering for small events of about 100 people or less?

Does the PID controller detach from the R58? I like the features associated with the PID, but it clashes severely with the design
@SkwrHdz6 жыл бұрын
Yes, the PID detaches and can be stored separately. T doesn’t need to be attached to use the R58-2

I own the R58 and have it plumbed with a 7 cartridge water filter system. Couple that with a Mazzer Super Jolly grinder, and the shots are amazing. Don't know how much of a difference the pressure profiling would make on the Rocket, but I have experienced the difference pressure profiling makes on the taste of coffee brewed on the Slayer. I was actually shocked at how different the shots came out. Can't wait to hear from someone who has changed machines to see if they feel it really makes a difference on the new R60v Rocket. Love the new angled valves and the attachable PID.

Sometimes I have to keep myself away from devices that allow too much tinkering. I can see myself wasting a lot of coffee and time and getting caffeine-overloaded with this pressure profile thing.

Haha! I see what you mean. I love to tweak and optimize everything in life but now I think it is just too much messing around that would drive me crazy if I try to dig into that super complex and "trial & error" pressure profiling feature. Not to forget also that the R60V is A LOT more expensive than the R58 just for that 1 feature, so if you end up not using it, you're pretty much wasting 1.5K down the drain.

Very interesting. I was (and still am) between the R58 V2 and the Izzo Alex Duetto IV, which are both at the same price point. Then the R60V comes along, however at a price level where one could fork out a bit more and ultimately consider the sexy looking and handmade La Marzocco Linea Mini. One has to admit, though, that Rocket are seemingly stepping up their game in a solid way. One thing I did not see in your video is that the R60V is a 'limited production' model, i.e. if I may recall the gent from Rocket (in another video) he said that there are a fixed number e.g. sixty (60) or so of these produced in every batch or calendar year. So at the bottom right in the front panel, next to the "on" light, where the Rocket nameplate is, it is written 15/60 (i.e. machine no. 15 out of 60 machines total). Is that right? Good reviews and presentation. They help considerably all of us who would like to see these machines in action. Well done SCG, keep up the good work.

+Konstantinos Roumeliotis Thanks for watching! The Rocket machines are handmade in Italy. They are doing a limited production each year, and that will be labeled on the machine itself.

Hey Gail, great job on this video. Do you know if Rocket will anytime soon produce a lever machine like the Profitec Pro 800?
@loch19899 жыл бұрын
Hey Gail, with the new PID on the R58, does it mean that the R58 has a shot timer on the PID too?:)
@SeattleCoffeeGear9 жыл бұрын
+loch1989 Unfortunately not. The PID design is different but the functionality is the same.

In your opinion, is the R58 V2, better value for money? (1,750.00 for a PID, an APP and funky new feet....I can't see the value?!) . Please don't sit on the fence here...I know you sell both, but you are in best position to advise a prospective customer.
@blairansellfraser7 жыл бұрын
(I meant Pressure Profiling...not PID)
@SeattleCoffeeGear7 жыл бұрын
It comes down to what you want to get out of your machine. If experimenting with pressure profiling isn't important to you, then the R58 will suit you just fine. Both machines will pull excellent shots.

Thank you (u r sitting on the fence though)

The R58 seemed to have a lil extra power on the Steam, or it's just my imagination?
@kingdarko9 жыл бұрын
+Alexandre Nobrega I thinks its because they have different tips
@SeattleCoffeeGear9 жыл бұрын
+kingdarko Same tips on these two machines. ;D
@alexandrenobrega19 жыл бұрын
+Seattle Coffee Gear Yeah, I saw that... that;s why I said it seemed like the 58 has some extra juice. Boiler temperature perhaps?
@SeattleCoffeeGear9 жыл бұрын
+Alexandre Nobrega Possibly. That said, we think they are both pretty comparable- solid steaming machines. Cheers!
