the Rocket is obviously awesome, but at twice the price it's not very compelling to say that its differentiation vs. the Silvia is its build quality; I've got a Silvia that I bought used 18 years ago and PI'd; it'll probably last longer than I do
@dash1828043 жыл бұрын
It seems like a huge compliment to the Silvia Pro to be compared to a machine twice it's own price point. Honestly im surprised that the other machine was just barely better. This review IMO is more of a bash on the other machine.

Better unload your stock of the Silvia Pro, since once Rancilio's rapid upgrade to the "Pro X model" becomes available, who will want to have the Pro?

My wife and I have owned a Silvia for near twenty years. While I have had to service it over the years , it has given us great coffee shots for many years. I would like to move up to the Rocket unit. I think that it would be the last expresso machine that I would have to buy

About the timer functionality. The Rancilio can be used with a smart plug. Which outperforms both implementation and is definitely the better solution.
@SandstormCloudwave4 жыл бұрын
Same with the Rockets. Just keep the switch at the front in the ON position and have the smart plug handle the rest. Been using my R58 v2 for over half a year like this already.

Btw, an interesting alternative to a smart plug is “Lora tap” on amazon. This works as a simple remote switch where you have a physical button that remotely turns on the plug outlet. I have this near my bed and easily turn on my Silvia when I wake up

Even though the price points on these machines are quite different, I thought the comparison was warranted since the disciples of the more affordable one claim it’s just as good as the more expensive one. This review told me that you can get about the same quality of drink-isn’t that all that really matters-from the less expensive unit. The difference in drink quality would probably be lost on your average Folgers drinker anyway. I love my Rocket but if I had settled on the other, sounds like I wouldn’t have been overly disappointed.

Excellent review - coverage and details across the board… It’s imo what people are looking for from a review. His breakdown was organized and I’m shocked how much better this review was for the R58 in this comparison video than the young lady had done when reviewing the R58 only. She had the height wrong for the R58 in her video… not cool as someone could have taken her for her word for this when buying for their counter height. Something I don’t see discussed very often on E61 group lever machines is that after you back flush the machine with some detergent the lubricant in the lever will be washed away and the lever will become hard and squeaky. The lever then has to be removed and lubricant applied. I am looking to buy a new HX or double boiler machine and despite all of the E61 group benefits I read this is a major turn off for me. How elaborate is this process of re lubricating the lever and how often needs to be done?
@Uncompletedrecall3 жыл бұрын
Seconded. The regular maintenance is an issue for me as well. Ideally, one should dismantle the top of the group head and clean, descale and lubricate 4 times a year. I have stopped looking at E61 machines since. Pity, because I love the look.

Hi there! The steaming is on par with commercial machines. Takes a bit of learning because of the two hole design, but I can get the same milk from it that I would on a La Marzocco, Rancilio, or any other machine. @@RichardChau I did. And I did NOT want another vibe pump machine.
@RichardChau3 жыл бұрын
@@Todd.T may i know your reason for that? Is that got louder and louder over time? Was thinking rocket type v but since you mentioned it i need to rethink
@Todd.T3 жыл бұрын
@@RichardChau Sure. Silvia gets louder over time because the rubber vibratory pump holders flop over to one side and don't suspend the pump properly. There is no satisfying low and powerful humming sound like in a rotary pump machine. Vibratory pumps vibrate the machine and everything it touches. The biggest reason is shot quality. I always thought the viscosity on the vibe pump shots were thinner than rotary pump shots and I was right. In a back to back Rocket type V vs Rocket type R shots, the R shots were creamier and more viscous. A friend of mine who roasts says he feels the pump delivers a pulsing pressure instead of a constant pressure. With the PID on Silvia when the boiler element kicks on, the vibe pump drops its rate. With the PID in my Rocket Giotto Evoluzione R, when the heating element is on, the pump sounds like it is slowing down a bit, but the pressure remains constant.
