I like the thought of using “mean swing” with your rocket launcher when all the counters are going. It’s a fun mental image of Rocket looking at his empty gun, shaking it, then running up to Ronin, leaping into the air and smacking him in the face with it.

I really like your review videos. I like how you say “your play style”. Most heroes in this game fit some people play style than others. It sounds like the kind of play like Ms. Marvel in a way. In how you want to flip every two or three turns. It looks like I’m going to slide Rocket and Groot into Starlord deck when he comes out.

That's what I really like about MC, the cooperative nature of it allows people to focus more on what's fun, what their playstyle is and what gets them excited, and you can have complete success with that. I've played a lot of cards games, dating back to Magic: the Gathering as a teenager, and as much as I adored them, the scene can quickly turn into a place that revolves around the "meta" and "what's best" and everyone wants to have the best decks out there. It's a lot more fun to have no clear "right answer" and be able to just challenge yourself to win with the decks or heroes you get the most enjoyment out of. I'm a Rocket Man! I think he works great in the other aspects as well. All his stats are low but his kit adds to each of his stats which works great as he builds up. I think people will focus on his hero ability thinking that killing as many minions as possible is the goal but I think that is really just the boost he has on top of an already great character. Lack of big burst damage cards are his biggest weakness.

I think Follow Through can be really good against villains with a lot of minions. I got all 3 of them down in one of the collector scenarios and eventually against Ronan, and it led to so much extra overkill damage with weapons or Relentless assault, plus extra healing or threat removal with Moment of Triumph and Into the Fray. Definitely throw in 2 Power of Aggression cards to help get them out faster.

Good insights and thoughts, Sean. I can imagine with all 3 that it's MORE than worth it and they have a big effect. I'm still not convinced whether it's worth it to run three of them for that potential, if at 1 or 2 out they aren't super effective, but I honestly haven't tested that enough to be confident in my thoughts there. Schadenfreude is a word used to explain the feeling of pure joy or glee derived from problems for others which makes sense as rocket would enjoy using his weapons and doing damage...

Rocket... If you play alone, you can chose agression or justice. But in group, I think, the villain is important to chose your aspect. Lot's of minions agression, or otherwise justice. (I more a justice player, for the moment). So bug, it will be for the future i think, but Groot, i will put him allways in my deck. Great defence, so, you musn't heal much of your character. Restricted is badass. Making the good choices at the good moments will be important. You can take on a lot of minions, so, in group, with agression, i think, you are the boss for going on a killingspree :D Again, nice video. And saying that you have played it first wrong, is very strong from you. Every one make mistakes in games. (I think i win with all the mistakes i make ;) Have a nice day!

Re Follow Through. I had a run with rocket where I had two of them in play. I think they just happened to come along in a turn where I had a power of aggression and no other target for it. Once I had a couple of them in play I did feel I got value out of them. It really helps chip away damage at the villain with all the overkill he's doing.

Great video! Obligatory reminder though that you can only have 2 restricted items, so he can only have 2 of his 4 weapons (2 pistols, particle cannon, rocket launcher) out at once, which makes for some interesting decisions as to what you should have out at any given time. It might make flipping to his alter ego to discard one (to replace with another) a more enticing option.

Yeah, for sure. I actually found myself using weapons sometimes even if they weren't the most effective they could be, just to exhaust them to be able to discard them with his alter-ego ability and clear the way for new, more powerful weapons from my hand. I could see Rocket Protection really liking Energy Barrier since it’s a tech upgrade* it combos with salvage and his AE ability on top of Energy Barrier already being one of the best protection cards.

Also I don’t know if Hand Cannon is great with Rocket when he’s already got so many restricted cards competing for a spot on the table and more often than not you’ll be he using his basic THW over his basic ATK. I’d definitely be up for more charge counter tech upgrades in the future.

I think you are sleeping a bit on Rocket's Pistol. Yes, not as flashy as the others, but it is extremely efficient. 1 cost for 6 is 3 per resource/card spent, Particle cannon is only 2 dmg per resource/card spent. It is also really good for enabling those excess damage kills on minions. Battery pack on the pistol is less good than on the Particle cannon but it is still 2 dmg per resource so it is good. I'm not going to say Follow Through is amazing, but i do think it is decent in the right deck. It of course works with overkill cards, but also increases the thwart from Into the Fray and the healing from Moment of Triumph. I think Rocket is a great hero but I think he is very narrow in terms of deckbuilding. He has so much synergy with Aggression, particularly in regards to his hero ability that there is a significant loss in synergy when you switch to a different aspect. Justice has a bit of synergy with Stealth Strike and Heroic Intuition but it will still struggle to consistently activate his hero ability as much as Aggression, and i don't think justice is that necessary since he thwarts so well from Aggression. I don't like Protection and Leadership at all as they don't have no burst damage for his hero ability and no synergy in general, other than they give him defense.

Yeah I didn't mean to imply that Rocket's Pistol is poor or anything, its just less flashy than the other two big weapons obviously. Which is totally fine! I'm definitely still getting a lot of use out of the pistols. And yeah, I completely agree with you on Rocket's synergy issues. I've tried him a few times as Justice now and he definitely loses some of his "oomph" if that makes sense. More playing required, especially with all aspects, but he definitely might suffer from being a bit narrow in the deckbuilding possibilities. "Looking for Trouble" specifically fits Aggression very well, as Aggression seems to be geared more towards minions than towards straight up damage. I used to think Aggression was the Damage Dealer but really it seems more geared to be the Minion Killer with Bonus. Otherwise Looking for Trouble is like a slightly weaker version of Thor's card that is also 3 threat removal in exchange for a minion. And both even require that you fulfill the minion part with that little arrow, so don't try to discard the bottom of the encounter deck hoping to not get a minion: you won't get the threat removal either!

Regarding follow through, it was so good against ultron. It was a few extra damage every turn because you are going to try to get excess damage and the majority of your damage is overkill

Rockets pretty tricky but definitely fun! I wanna like Hand Cannon so much since it’s one of the very few overkill cards, but the fact that you have to exhaust it and Rocket to do so really stinks. I’d prefer to thwart with his massive 3 thwart, it feels better to me. I hope they come out with more tech upgrades in the future, right now there isn’t much available. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think only aggression and protection have tech upgrades that Rocket can take advantage of.

Yeah I hope that they continue to print more tech cards too. I would imagine we'll see some more in some of the guardian packs, perhaps Gamora or Star-Lord. Or even in the extra player cards that are included in the guardian decks. Would be great to have more options!

Another good thing about rocket launcher is that it's not an 'attack' action, so you can use it even if you're stunned. It also doesn't trigger retaliate.

Rocket or Groot. Tough choice but before playing either, Rocket seems more dynamic/complex which is attractive. I think Groot is going to be fun as well but he seems really singular in his approach (i.e. defend as much as you can to build growth counters and counterpunch with big occasional hits). Rocket seems like he's got more flexibility to deal with different problems. As for Rocket's cards, "Looking for trouble" is the card I'm most excited about experimenting with. Seems like a great card for a hero that can handle multiple minions. Interested to hear your opinion on the new villains and the expansion as a whole. Cheers.

Ah dangit, I only prepared 2 charge counters :D ...looks like I need 21? 4x for Battery Pack (I guess there are two copies), 2x for Particle Cannon, 2x for Rocket Launcher, 6x for Pistols, 3x Hand Cannon, I guess there are two copies of Fauna and Flora so 4x more. ouch, I have some printing and painting to do. Although 'restricted' saves me a bit, they can't all be on the table at the same time

Am I missing something with follow through? It's an upgrade and not limited to one per player. So you get three of those out and now EVERY overkill attack deals +3 (with the associated benefits from other cards you mentioned). That seems worth the two cost investment over time to me.

Yes, you're right for sure. I just tend not to get overly excited about cards that are not only situational (needing minions and potential for excess damage) but also need multiple copies out to get to a point of being worth it. That being said, if you get them out early and have that system in place and the right situation for it, I can see it having more value. -Dylann

Schadenfreude means "feeling enjoyment from other people's suffering". It is made up of two words, "Schaden" which means damage or harm, and "Freude" which means joy, bliss or pleasure. You pronounced "Schaden" correctly, but the central vowel in "Freude" is like the english word "boy". Also, you pronounce the 'e' at the end.

Why do you discard Hand Cannon when it's out of counters but not for Rocket's Pistol? The wording is the same??

It's because Hand Cannon specifies "Uses" on the card. When a card with counters that says "Uses" on it runs out of counters, it is discarded. Rocket's hero weapons though, don't say "Uses". So they actually remain in play and until you are forced to discard one because of too many restricted cards, or when you use his alter-ego ability. Hope that helps! -Dylann

Is it just me or do the new heroes feel kind of op? Everyone seems to have an upgrade or so, that covers the weakness they have. Rocket is a weapon freak, so he gets damage out of this, he doesn't need to have a high ATK. Then he gets this upgrade to push him to 2 base, with combat training he is at 3 like Cap. Maybe all needs this push, but I hope it's still possible to play Cap or Spider-Man in the new campaign. Just my two cents.

They haven't felt too overpowered to me yet. I think that's one of the challenges with the design space of MC. You want to keep adding new powerful heroes to the game but if you power creep or advance the power level too much, you risk making older Heroes feel outdated or bad. I think they've done a great job so far, but likely something they're always battling. I wonder if at any point we'll see upgraded older Heroes or older Heroes revisited, much in the same way that Arkham has the "Return to" packs. Likely not anytime soon, but something to think about!

They're expensive, but our group just switched to the new BCW 3200 Collectible Card Bins to replace cardboard shoebox style boxes. Every available MC card sleeved with Dragon Shield fills about 3/4 of one. Oh, and we use Tesseract Games (etsy store) dividers.

Yeah, due to the pandemic I play mostly with 2 or solo. At those counts, it's fairly easy to remove and doesn't have too much of an impact, although it's still annoying and can definitely still cause some problems. -Dylann
