It was criminal that Taron didn't receive at least an Oscar nomination as Elton John. Especially when you consider that he received nominations from BAFTA and SAG and won a Golden Globe, as well as a Satellite. He nails Elton's phrasing on the songs, sings them beautifully and perfectly, and also Elton's performance facial expressions, his walk and his run, and all along he's convincingly dramatic and authentically comedic

@@terryparrett2718 I totally agree! Queen is my favorite band but I will always maintain Rocketman is a far superior movie. I make the comparison of Bohemian Rhapsody being like a kid giving a book report and hitting all the facts and dates required, while Rocketman has always come across more as somebody telling you a story about themselves. This song hits hard after watching the heartbreak and pain he went through for so many years. This movie gave me new respect for Elton and the guy who plays him in the movie. Elton is one of the hardest roles to play because he's a real person, who dealt with serious struggles. Trying to portray that is difficult. He had to be Elton while not completely being Elton... When I first watched Rocketman, I cried like crazy and then when this scene came up, and the music started, my heart skipped a beat. Such a powerful song with a powerful message. It almost feels like the opposite of the Queen one that came out around the same time, but in a good way. Love them both but this one is at turns dark and grounded with moments of magical realism and doesn't shy away from heavy stuff where the Queen one's more of a fun romp through Queen's history but less fantastical in terms of the musical numbers.
@Howlingburd19 Жыл бұрын
@@charleshoppner4111 well I promise if Bohemian Rhapsody wasn’t such a monster success the whole “singer biopic” genre wouldn’t be as big as it is now (this movie was in development since the early 2000’s but I still think I’m correct). However, when it comes to biopics I was always a fan of them being R. Because if *anyone* (including myself, and probably you as well) decided to tell their life story, it’d definitely be R, too. For biopics, you can also go deeper into personal issues with an R rating, something you can’t really do with a PG-13 rating. You don’t need to make a movie R to make it a masterpiece (look at The Empire Strikes Back, WALL-E, and the original Beauty and the Beast) but I definitely think the best biopics tend to be R and they really benefit from that.

ProfessorGage Marlon Brando hated the Oscars and didn’t even show up when he won his second, but they still gave it to him. Eminem won an Oscar for 8 Mile but didn’t show up cause he didn’t think he would win. They don’t just give the award to the runner up, it’s already engraved and everything.

When the last captions after this mention his partner and kids, him retiring from touring to be with them, and say “He is finally loved, properly” I had to pause the credits and wait five minutes to stop tearing up.

It's so heartwarming to see that he survived everything that he went through and is still going strong today. He could have very easily ended up dead, but got out of it before it was too late for him. This song was quite simply the perfect way to end this film.

Probably my favourite scene in the movie. Just a brilliant performance and rendition of this timeless song. I was never a big fan of Elton John even though his songs were constantly in the background of my growing up life. This movie helped me see another perspective and really appreciate the song writing genius Elton really is. Our time on this earth is short and so we should protect and treasure such people who add and fill our life with experiences that would never have happened if they had never existed.

The funny part is, Taron Egerton was the voice of Johnny in Sing, and he sang an Elton John song, specifically “I’m still standing”, that was in 2016, in Kingsmen golden circle in 2017, he meets Elton John as he appears in it, 2 year later, in 2019 he will play Elton John, in rocket man, most likely due to his performance there and his meeting with him

Taron was so good in Rocketman that at times I forgot I wasn't actually watching Elton. All the little flourishes on his face. I mean just LOOK at the phone box scene talking to his Mum. If that isn't Oscar worthy then nothing is.

@floraskott8 ай бұрын
The music video with Taron is amazing but for me, it’s the slow intro. It works so well and completely changed the song for me, as if I was listening to the lyrics for the first time. Taron basically improvised the walk from the rehab room to the door of the clinic on the day of the shoot because it wasn’t shot during principal photography and they didn’t have a choreographer on set. To me, his walk is perfect: vulnerable yet playful, melancholic and energetic at the same time. The ending of the film basically feels like Dexter Fletcher and Taron Egerton are handing Elton’s story back to him. A perfect transition!
