Final patch tip. This always happens after uploading. It's really cool to loop the envelope, move it to audio rate and then patch the envelope out to the Pitch B input. So instead of using the sends, you can use the envelope as a 'vco' to make more classic exponential FM noises.

Superb video -- the LIP is my all time favourite voice and I didn't know it was inspired by the Buchla 259, d'oh!! The LIP is lovely through a LPG too, but you knew that already. Love your work!

@CinematicLaboratory Imho, the LIP / Westlicht piece is one of the most magical moments you ever did on YT, right next to Private Investigations In The Jungle. Stunning!

Thanks for this video …wonderful timing. I just got my first iteritas and am trying to wrap my head around it ….i haven’t been this excited about a module in a long time

What a video! The LIP is still my favourite oscillator.

If I have a live gig it's always my #1 choice since its pitch is super stable and doesn't detune if you accidentally touch the pitch knob. All manufacturers should use push encoders for pitch.

@@CinematicLaboratory couldn't agree more. It just gives you great confidence that you can play with it. It's actually the one thing that makes me use Generate 3 a little bit less. I heard there are some sort of "locking knobs" that one can fit but I've never found a good solution. Maybe one day you'll find something like that and make a beautiful video about it.

Super cool video. I am putting together my first rack at the moment, on the fence Between melodicer and metrpolix. Intending to use my skiff as a riff machine to generate ideas which I will get into bitwig as soon as possible to make stuff out of.

What replacement knobs do you have on the LIP? I'd love to swap mine out as the glare from my little overhead reading light makes them extremely hard to see. The lines on the top of the knobs disappear in the glare lines.
@CinematicLaboratory11 ай бұрын
I use Endorphin.es knobs, which are sold at their website. They're not perfect, but so much better for visibility.

I just wish the LIP had an autotuning capability and a way to change octave without having to tune each time. Like the bastl pizza for exemple. For the rest, I love it.

The 'less is more' statement applies to most of NE's oscillators and effects. I think the BIA might be the exception. I love paring the Voltage Block with the BIA and just letting it do its thing. Give the VB an odd step count for some neat polyrhythmic cv modulation.

VB is still on my 'wanna have' list...

It's worth it. I have two of them in my big case. @@CinematicLaboratory

Can make these sounds with 400 other oscillators aswell.
@CinematicLaboratory8 ай бұрын
That's a big case and you don't need 400 oscillators. Just one will do.

i want to give this module a shot. as heretical as it feels to say, i tried the BIA [different type of module, i know.], and i found it as kind of a one trick pony.
@CinematicLaboratory11 ай бұрын
I completely understand. BIA is cool, but it's a one shot (pony) design with no 'free' mode, so you're always hitting stuff. The LIP is one of the best. IMHO the Instruo Cs-L is the most powerful complex VCO out there, but you'll need a lot of patience and extra modules to make it work for you. LIP is much easier to handle. However, you need to fancy that typical raw Noise Engineering sound. No creamy warm analog from the box, but use an analog filter and you're in a completely different world.
