The darkness series holds a special place to me, I remember seeing the trailer for the first game on tv and I was intrigued. I picked it up not long after it came out and it was amazing not only in story but in the vibe and the perfectly portrayed nyc subways. The 2nd one was good fun too and it perfectly portrayed an insane asylum and patients. I didn't have a problem with anything in the 2nd one except for the cliffhanger ending that's about it. One more thing I have to say about the series is the soundtrack was killer, the ending credits of the first darkness was amazing and a perfect song to end the game after the heartfelt ending.

10:15 Funny thing about Yooka-Laylee is that people were displeased despite Playtonic giving fans exactly whay they advertised. They sold the game as "a game from the 90s" and that's exactly what we got. A game that played exactly like back in those days.

Compare it to A Hat In Time, another indie collect-athon platformer with some older nostalgic gameplay features of the genre released in the same year as Yooka-Laylee. Both hit similar sales numbers at around the same time, but A Hat In Time was reviewed and remembered much more fondly despite having to work with 1/10th of the budget. Yooka-Laylee's problem isn't just that no one wants games from the 90s today, it's that Yooka-Laylee did it very poorly. Their level design is what stands out to me, it looks much more like DK64s or Twooie's more sparse and unfocused level design compared to Kazooie's, and both were known for "they're fine games, but just they didn't age well".

I know it's not that people don't want 90s games anymore, quite the opposite like you say, but Yooka-Laylee was made EXACTLY like a 90s game, including the "didn't age well" part, whereas A Hat in Time was made AS a 90s game, but with modern day tweaks and improvements. So again, it's on us the fans really regarding Yooka-Laylee, we should've been careful what we wished for. Because Playtonic delivered on exactly what they promised.

In regards to Sonic Adventure 3, I can't remember where I read it but I could have sworn I read an article somewhere that Sonic Heroes was meant to be SA3 but was renamed to Sonic Heroes due to Sonic Team fearing that people would be put off buying the game if they haven't played the prior 2 games as they won't know the story. On the contrary, I read an interview of Lizuka from back then that explicitely said that Sonic Heroes was unrelated to the adventure games and that the adventure series "hasn't ended". It was when he was asked about a potential chao garden in heroes and that he was saying the chao garden was exclusive to the adventure games this is the full quote : "EGM: Why didn't you include Chao raising in the game? Takashi Iizuka: Well, in Sonic Adventure, the game was more story-driven and full of variety, while Heroes is more team-focused. The Chao raising would have broken up the action too much. In Sonic Adventure, we created the Chao Garden so that new players would be forced to go out, explore the action sections, and find Flickies and things. In Heroes, even if you're completely new to Sonic, you can play Team Rose and learn how the game works. The level-up items are the new motivating factor in Heroes. The Force Unleashed wasn’t just “kinda short” it was like 4 levels long and could be beaten by the average player in around 3/4 hours. It was criminally short and the boss fights were terribly dumbed down with Quick Time Events. The story was interesting in concept, but didn’t really… go anywhere. Neil Drunkmann recently came out and said he didn't initially know where the story would go after Last of Us 2, but that he now finally had a flash of inspiration and at least now know what he wants the THEME to be.
