These companies are dumb sometimes. They put out horrible games, then they’re like “oh well, no one wants to play *insert franchise here* anymore, guess we’ll just forget it exists”

Why would they keep funding a game no one bought? Regardless of the quality, they still lost money so continuing a series after that just doesn’t make sense. Very few companies have the money to fund continuations of bad games.

@@rafael12121998 Becaue they would rather let a series that was doing well die instead of admitting their mistakes and connecting the dots where surprise, the excecutive meddling they willingly did was what it affected the last entry they made. But, they would rather blame it on the developers and make them completely accountable for the mistakes they made. The developers cannot approve the monetization that is used at the end beacuse they don't have that power to begin with.
@arthurfleck6292 ай бұрын
@@rafael12121998 It isn’t just the game series which suffer in multiple ways, the most notorious of which of course when they’re put to the chopping block or at the very least placed on ice indefinitely. It’s also the employees, the ones who so often actually perform the lions share of the labor, while their management refuse to take any accountability when things go poorly, blaming the workers and cutting their pay and of course even letting them go in enormous numbers in small periods of time with little to no warning. It’s pure lunacy, but unfortunately it’s hardly unique to the video-game industry, it occurs anywhere else, especially in other entertainment mediums where projects are also extremely expensive to create like games. You’ll always have muppets slipping through the cracks, faking it until they make it, becoming instilled within managerial roles even though the issues they have are significant enough that they will never be management material, and thus shouldn’t ever be in charge of anybody in the workforce to any real degree. Particularly regarding their personal insecurities and deeply held beliefs about themselves (many have inferiority complexes they can never shake), when such fools get into positions of power, things go south very quickly, all it takes is for a little bit of pressure to come cracking down on them and they start running around like chickens with their heads cut off, and of course, since they aren’t qualified, they can’t can’t even imagine what it might take to improve the circumstances, so they do the first thing that comes to mind, they take shortcuts to save their own asses, backstabbing loyal employees in the process. The lack of accountability is a serious issue, as it means a comfortable lie is perpetuated and good franchises are left on the cutting room table, the execs and investors are almost never wise nor savvy enough to look closely enough to determine that the franchise is fact highly beloved by fans, but was contorted into a hideous corpse of its proper form, masquerading as such in what’s often a ridiculous deviation and potentially even an outright cash grab. It’s almost never the case that fans don’t truly want more of the franchise, take the 2022 Saints Row reboot for example. Us fans had been yearning for another Saints Row game for YEARS, nearly an entire decade by that point. Instead of being given anything that even vaguely resembled the franchise’s true identity we all fell in love with so many years ago, we got a woke and out of touch piece of garbage with no right to even call itself “Saints Row”. Now the series is dead in the water, cryogenically frozen until further notice so to speak, with the “further notice” being when another person with the power, connections, and know how required to do so, finally resurrects it, which may not even ever actually happen. If it does, it’s not like there’s any guarantee they’ll get it right then either, that’s how terrible some of these people are at what they’re being paid tens of millions of dollars to do, they’re completely clueless, or close enough to that they can’t accurately gauge what fans really want even when we’re screaming it out at them. They ignore everything and just follow the money, they see dollar sighs and they pounce, and naturally, this means they get it wrong, very wrong, a lot, but do they ever pay the price for it? Never, and when things are starting to look less than aesthetically pleasing in the quarterly fiscal earnings calls, the hard workers who’ve invested their blood sweat and tears are axed so these idiots can maintain their exorbitant salaries and bonuses for which they perform little to no actual work for. They’re lazy douchebags who plague the gaming industry and snatch hard earned jobs from struggling people who are sometimes only just getting by, as cowardly and heartless as it gets.

@rafael12121998 This sounds sensible until you consider that the games in that series WERE profitable before that entry. I am a programmer who has worked in various industries but the games industry totally baffles me. In any project I've worked on, if you're working on a previous iteration of a product and this current one doesn't sell you think about how you could improve or assess if you need to make any alterations to adapt to the current market. Games companies just scrap everything they had and then build a product from scratch again to appeal to roughly the same market. I can't fathom how that is at all cost effective.

Metroid Other M's story seems like it was written like this on purpose to put the main female character "in her place" amongst her male superiors. I can't confirm if this is true, but I definitely could see that when I watched the cut scenes. Before that game, Samus was a lone commando that did stuff her way, WITHOUT having to follow another dude's orders
@orangeslash16672 ай бұрын
@@CyberHangman Before Other M's development, Sakamoto did not think too much about "what kind of person Samus Aran was and how she thinks and her personality", particularly because the games tried to depict Samus as a mysterious person. Sakamoto and Team Ninja put much focus on backstory in the game to present Samus as an "appealing human character". This explains why Samus barley talks in Dread, and even then he had to take a break from Metroid to get that right.

So the thing is Nintendo has always kinda treated the Metroid Prime games separately from the main Metroid series (which Other M is a part of). It’s all one franchise, but Prime is its own little subseries within the Metroid universe, which is why Federation Force is a Prime game and Other M isn’t, and why Dread came out before Prime 4, despite being announced years after.
@jameshonaker5852 ай бұрын
I feel like your entire Metroid: Other M section just misses the mark. Like, painfully so. Metroid: Other M was meant as a sort of interquel, not a reboot...the story was set between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, sort of meant to clear up some of the unexplained story beats and contextualize Fusion. Matroid Prime is its own sort of side-branch, chronologically set between the original Metroid and Metroid II. Metroid's always been a bit of a weird franchise, since it feels that the main guy is really the main driver. The game that was Dread was kiboshed after several failed attempts, though MercurySteam's success with the Metroid II remake gave the series head confidence that they could potentially deliver on the game he wanted to with Dread.

Command & Conquer 4 should be on the list, the failure of that game pretty much killed any new C&C games with the only things we have had since are crappy mobile stuff and the C&C Remasters (which are great but most definitely not the new mainline PC game franchise fans like me want)

What I don’t like about the Destroy All Humans remakes is how they changed how some games mechanics and weapons work, making them more modern and tactical instead of dumb fun

I know Quake IV didn't kill the franchise, but Quake IV isn't available for download on any online game services that I know of; the only reason I have the game is that it's a physical copy. There has been no real Quake sequels since then, just a sequel to Quake III: Arena called Quake V: Arena. I don't understand why Quake IV isn't sold at discount on Steam; it isn't great like Quake and Quake II, but it's definitely playable

Quake IV's soundtrack is also "meh" compared to the 1st Quake, which had Nine Inch Nails' frontman Trent Reznor compose the game's soundtrack

17:00 it took me watching this video to realize I finished Dead Island 2 without even being on a single Island 😂😂😂😂😂 (Dead Island 2 is MID and that is being nice/ they did really good with the gore and playing with friends)

I'd enjoy Dead Island 2 if they'd remove the online requirement.

I hate the vibrant color of Dead Island 2… It’s way too much like outer worlds.

I absolutely adore Mass Effect Andromeda. It was the first Mass Effect game I ever played and because of that I had no expectations going in and ended up loving it. I will say that I played it years after launch so I never saw how buggy and chaotic the game was but as it stands now it’s a solid game. And I’m even more grateful to it cause it got me so excited for Mass Effect Legendary Edition that I bought and played the original trilogy. I can definitely see why people were put off and unhappy with Andromeda after coming from ME 3 though.

Metal Gear Survive was not the game that killed the series. It was the game that couldn't recover the series. MGSV was the game that killed the series. The Phantom Pain and the drama with Kojima made everyone hate the series and no one wanted to support the company anymore. It wouldn't have mattered how good the next game was, no one was going to support it. The fact that MGSV was "unfinished" and the series director was no longer with the company left everyone with a bad taste in their mouth.
