Others have mentioned it but it can't be overstated. Clive Burr's drumming on all three first albums is spectacular. The thing that no one has been able to duplicate is that cobra like right hand he had. Songs like "Wrathchild" and "Murders in the Rue Morgue" are perfect examples. He is playing blazing one handed 16th notes and that is his direct punk influences. Nicko, as brilliant as he is, has never played it remotely the same way Clive did and that changed the feel of those vintage songs. "Innocent Exile", "Prodigal Son" and "Twilight Zone" are very underrated. The opening of "Idea of March", "Wrathchild", and "Murders in the Rue Morgue" is one of the great "Killers" is just vintage Maiden. Pure and simple! Me and my listening buddy Joe bought the debut solely based on the album cover and would go to the same music store every Saturday looking for new music and got "Killers" the week it was released. It's their best album cover and probably 1A with "Number of the Beast" as my favorite Maiden album ever. And we can NOT overlook the addition of Martin "The Wasp" Birch!

Same here, my two fave releases. Remember when they changed singer, I was pissed off at that move because Di'Anno was so great on the first two albums, all the behind the scenes stuff was unknown in pre-Internet days...
@pjones84043 жыл бұрын
@@LarryFleetwood8675 which is why I love "Number of the Beast" so much. It was the perfect Maiden lineup. Killers with Bruce. Sadly only lasted one album. Don't get me wrong. I jumped right in with Nicko..all the up through "Seventh Son" (than things turned dark until "Brave New World").

The song Purgatory is the most Motorhead that Maiden ever got close to be. I can easily hear Lemmy singing that song, doing his bass playing. And that guitar lick/melody that goes along that song has that Ace of Spades vibe.

I was drawn 1st to maiden because of the album art. I remember being in the local Jamesway and seeing both Iron Maiden and Killers in the bin. I picked up Killers 1st and then went back and bought the original album. I loved them from the start and still do

Prodigal Son is criminally underrated. It's right up there with Remember Tomorrow from the debut album for me.

There isn't enough I cant say about this album. As a bass player, I think a lot of Steve Harris's busiest bass playing is from this album and is very challenging. Genghis Khan the instrumental was arguably the toughest Iron Maiden song I have ever learned especially in that crazy section where everything gets faster and busy and that section was tough to nail down. There is not a bad song off of this album and I think Paul Dianno suited this and the first album perfectly and is arguably their heaviest album as the band at the time were so hungry and had much to prove to the world.Also, it features my favorite rendition of Eddie.

Killers had a sense of dread to it. A jack the ripper, killer hiding from the streetlights terror. Thats why the cover art is perfect. Bruce brought in the sense of honour and fighting the good fight. Di'Anno gave us horror.

I've had the extended version of Maiden Japan (with 17 songs) since the early 90's. It's the BEST live recording showcasing the entire first 2 albums with Di'Anno on vocals and Clive Burr on drums. Di'Anno sounded amazing and he could sing really well live. People don't realize that about him.

My favourite track is Prodigal Son. Love the slow buildup and the once the song starts, it's fantastic. Not heavy or fast but it's just perfect.

I have been listening to Killers since it came out, never got tired of it, never found the same magic in any other Maiden albums. I love the first album too, very underrated in my opinion. And the ballads sung by DiAnno are incredible.

I absolutely LOVE KILLERS!! my first IRON MAIDEN album, and blew me away. Never heard a Metal band like them in 1981. They came to my city in 1982 on the Number of the Beast Tour, but i love the DiANNO era!!

Nice! Great show and e love this record. Despite the differences between the two phases of Bruce and Dianno, I think Number still has the old elements of the two first records specially because of Clives Drumming. With Nicko everything changed

The sound of the album is so damn awesome- thanks Martin (pool bully) Birch! The first album top to bottom may have better tunes, but Killers' title track and Ides of March/Wrathchild absolutely knock me out every single time.

That was my first live concert experience, on that tour at The Tower Theater, in 1981. Iron Maiden opened for Judas Priest, on that particular tour. I always favored Iron Maiden's first two studio albums; and, the Made In Japan EP. Paul D'Ianno & Clive Burr (RIP), all the way!

I first got into Maiden in the height of the Dickinson era, and completely love everything up until Seventh Son, but for a long time now Killers has been my easy no. 1. I love every song. Maybe it doesn't have some of those highest highs/biggest hits of the next few albums but it's just a great listen and a great vibe from beginning to end. Drifter is one of their most underrated songs.

Saw Maiden in Antwerp in 81, Killers tour. Heard Maiden first time on the Metal for Muthas compilation. Bought all the original Maiden vinyl albums the same week as their release up to Live after Death. Killers album was stolen, still have the 5 other ones. Ides of March was written in 1977 and appeared as Thunderburst on the 1980 Head On album from Samson, Bruce first band. Always found the debut better than Killers (too many punk influences) The albums with Bruce were musically better than the 2 Paul Di Anno records, but lacked the ‘hunger’ and anger of those early records. Lost all interest after Adrian left, the band became a shadow of what it once was!

Killers is my 2nd favorite Maiden album, getting edged out by Powerslave. Killers has Diannos best performances IMO, Clive Burrs drumming is powerful and energetic, Adrian Smiths debut with the band, Dave Murray honing in on his leads, and Steve Harris’s baselines and songwriting are on top notch form.

I think another element that made this album great was Clive Burr’s drumming. He was only around for one more album after this one and while Nico is great, Burr had other stuff going on related to speed mixed with awesome technique and inventive, creative playing that was lost after his departure. I guess these guys don’t think it’s worth talking about. I don’t think his playing style ever received any due credit as far as his contribution to the first three albums including this one.

Thank god Phil collen never joined maiden, he's a good player but Def Leppard lost their metal edge when Pete willis left. I don't think Phil would have lasted, if they didn't like Dennis because he liked the eagles and thought he wasn't metal enough then Phil wouldn't have lasted beyond one album.

Iron Maiden are my favorite band. I started with number of the beast as a 14-year-old kid, I went back and loved the first one, but Killers never stuck with me. There are three standout tracks and other than that it's not that great. the three standouts being Wrathchild, Murders In The Rue morgue, and Killers. I understand production is far better than the first one, but other than those three songs they're just not that great.
@kforcer3 жыл бұрын
What about Ides of March...? To me, it's a crucial part of what makes Wrath Child great. It's almost like it's detailing the traumatic childhood experience that created the character in Wrath Child. You can hear a lot of the foundations for Hallowed Be They Name on Genghis Khan as well, I think. Anyway, I agree that those are the strongest tracks (I see Ides of March and Wrath Child as a single song), but I still think it is a great album. And in fact, I think those tracks are so strong that they elevate the album to greatness on their own.
