Guys, chill out and watch the whole video before commenting. Corey isn't retiring yet. He's just saying what he wants to do when it happens. However much I don't want him to retire, we're gonna have to get used to the fact that it will happen one day, and it needs to be on his terms. Look at Ozzy, and how much he doesn't wanna let his fans down by retiring. Look how much he's strained himself for the fans. We love him for it. We're grateful for it, but on a personal level, my heart hurts for the physical suffering Ozzy has gone through the last few years, and sadly, the quality of his most recent shows have shown it. I want Ozzy at his best in a show, and if him retiring and only doing a show here and there when he's at his current best is what keeps him healthy, then so be it. It also means he gets more time with his family. The same applies to Corey when the time comes. I'd rather he be able to chill out in life, watch his kids become who they're gonna become, and hopefully if his legs and feet aren't killing him too badly, he can get on stage and blow us away, as he's always done.

@snoozieboi Жыл бұрын
My brother's in infinite band constellations but mostly just locally and of course has a real job (at a music store, ofc). I get that big bands have maybe lots of tight schedules, lots of time zones etc but is it the total attrition? or is it mostly the drinking and lifestyle? I remember a Mastodon guy saying touring wore him out/killed him, but I also guess some bands like Radiohead kinda manage to live somewhat healthy. Theoretically I see some bands could commute back home 3-4 days a week as they only play weekends and could just show up for soundcheck, give their all 1-3h and rest. edit: I realize he touched this, but I thougth these guys were rich enough to kind of have their own chef and jet, at least not do too tight schedules.
@joethesheep4675 Жыл бұрын
yeah. A Band is like a family. For good and for worse. Imagine you are on a roadtrip with your entire family for many months straight. I bet lots of families would have a serious falling-out. Bands who' ve been in the business for a while usually have their ways of dealing with that, which usually involves getting distance to the other bandmembers whenever possible. Like successful bands who make enough money will often times rent seperate hotel rooms and not sleep in the bus and somesuch things. Like even if all members of the band love each other and dont have huge egos its though. And most bands have at least one guy who is socially difficult, to put it that way.
@Day-ZDuke Жыл бұрын
No offence, but there’s a big difference between ‘local bands’ and bands like Slipknot..... Of course local bands break up / retire mid thirties, the grind just isn’t worth it anymore as they are older,have families, etc, etc. For Slipknot, they have the motivation of not only tons of fans, but millions of dollars as well. It’s much easier for them to ‘tough it out’ into older age
@PerfectSense77 Жыл бұрын
Very very different. Most local bands break up for smaller reasons like not being able to find good people or just not taking off. Not because of the road grind - most never even get to that stage.

Corey, you are the most inspiring person in mainstream celebrity culture, you have never changed who you are, I have looked towards your energy and it grounds me, your presence charges me, your work ethic is unreal, your passion and the way you can channel so many facets of the human experience and emotions, has literally been a gift in my life. I wish you everything good. Thank you so much for sharing your art, thank you for your sacrifices. I truly deeply am so grateful that you were in my heart, mind, life, as I was learning how to navigate this world. You will never know how much you truly gave to so many of us. Thank you. Prayers for you and your beautiful family. I hope you know you are fully supported by the ones who love you! Take care of you!!

I'm in the same boat at 42. No frontal lobe from a crowbar in the frontal lobe, major spine issues from multiple spine surgeries. First broke my spine in the military in the middle east then rebroke it working on an transmission line crew along with a shattered tailbone. Everyday I wake up with the worst headache coming from my spine. Arthritis throughout my body from breaking my spine twice, both legs, both ankles, one arm, both wrists, boxing Fractures in both hands and my whole frontal lobe is dead, no brain activity now. Everyday I consider is this the day I end it.

Try the carnivore diet and cut out all sugars, breads, pasta, carbs. No sugary drinks, no fruits, no soda, not even fruit juice. Just meat. I buy the cheapest cuts of steak from Costco and eat bacon, eggs, real butter, hamburger patties, whole milk. That’s pretty much it. People claim it cures inflammation. My knee pain is gone. I no longer need to stretch it like I did pre carnivore diet. Please give it a try but for it to work you must have total discipline and not cheat.

No matter when he retires, it will suck for the whole industry, but he has given us his life for as long as he has, he’s been an absolute madman for YEARS. All I hope is that they do one final Australia tour before that time, they got me into metal, they’ll damn well be the last thing I listen to. I’m tearing and getting choked up just thinking about it.

I respect Corey for persevering and staying resilient through his entire journey of playing live music currently and that he is still unequivocally doing what he loves. If he ever needs to retire it will be sad, but hopefully gets the help that he needs so he isn't in grueling pain.

You know what?? Legend is overused these days but Corey is exactly that. For everything he has given to the fans, to music, no-one can deny he’s earned a break. And the fact he realises that time with loved ones is the most precious time of all? A true great.

All of the bands go thru this same issue, Slayer retired, Tom said it was enough. They were going for 40 years. The big 4 are a testament to the rigors of touring and the demands it cost all of them. Corey isn't walking down a path that hasn't already been trod upon.

I love Corey trying new things with solo records aswell. One of my dreams would to meet Corey and all band members get to know them and thank them and tell them how grateful I am. Continue to Rock On and take care of yourselves , family, and friends. Love you guys

Amazing interview where an actual legend spells out how hard touring can be. The reality of it all. I remember being in the studio once with someone and asking him about how touring for ten years was and him blowing my mind saying, "It was awful. Hated every day of it." Not as glamorous as you might think

Through the realness, the grind, the passion, the talent, and everything he's been through, Corey Taylor is quite possibly one of my metal and most inspiring heroes of all time. It's wild to think that this is the same person as 20 years ago. Gives me hope.

I’ve always tried to look at people like Corey objectively and realistically. There’s NO WAY anyone can go on feeling the way Corey felt when he wrote songs like ‘Disasterpiece’ or ‘Everything Ends’ and live an emotionally and psychologically and relationally healthy life. That’s just with the content of his art. That’s not including all the wear-n-tear on his body from all the constant traveling and brutal performing. He’s only a human.

These guys saved my life. That is no joke and I owe them everything, their music got me through the darkest periods of my life. When Paul died, I went and got his small clown tattoo put on me as a goodbye to him and truthfully the band itself. I grew apart from their new music not long after but I will still hold their stuff in my heart with such respect and love, I'll cherish it forever. ❤ Corey - you and the band do not owe us anymore my dude. You've given us all you could and in all honesty, I hope you end the band on a high note and with some grace too.

Let's not be overly sympathetic. We are fans and greatly appreciate Corey. I'm sure a lot of us have thoroughly enjoyed the art and music - but I'm sure he will agree that his life and lifestyle was completely his choice. He has every right to complain and point out hardship, but end of the day I'm sure he's had a life that most of us will never even have the opportunity to have. He totally deserves to make any choice he wants to make, including retirement. I just hope he knows that while fans may be a bit disappointed that most of us understand and congratulate him for all he has done. If fans get salty because he no longer wants to tour or work then you're honestly an idiot. He's provided us with enough material to satiate generations from now.

Back in 2012, I worked in a hotel as a receptionist in London, and I had the same conversation after Corey's gig at 3AM. The dude came in, sat at the bar, tired as f... and just wanted to chat and asked me how's life. We talked and laughed like he was my high school friend. I watch this and it brings a smile to my face, that, I get to meet a guy and his music I grew up with, and how human he is. Doing something that you love, but not knowing if that will resonate the same way you feel it with others. Is not easy. It's crushing. Struggle is pain. Pain has a pill when at the end of the day you realize that at least one person would be happy with what you did. If you get a chance to read this Corey, that croissant you ate back when we talked in the morning, just so you know it was worth it!

I've seen Slipknot and Stone Sour easily 10-15 times each, and seen Corey's solo tours - and he never fails to give it everything. Don't think I've ever seen a duff show from him. And that takes some doing, maintaining that kind of energy on stage, the dedication to still get up and do it even when one really doesn't want to and has a good enough reason not to. I mean, I know gout isn't constant but it looks like he's got other physical issues too which make it difficult. I'm the same age and haven't had the vagaries of a rough life, and I've now been out of work for three years because of the pain I have (and other health issues) so I have mad respect for someone who can battle through it and keep doing it - especially with how utterly exhausting travel is!
