Where one door closes is where many more will open! You took on all the liability and risk to build that business, and it’s human nature to feel so badly about pulling the plug and letting folks go, and most likely the successes you experienced are precisely because you are a genuine, thoughtful and caring person! 13,000 of those is a lot!! Maybe even approaching market saturation, at least at your price points. Keep the faith brother Brock and great things follow!!

That is tough brother. And I can't tell you how much I appreciate your honesty in sharing both your triumphs and setbacks. It is one of the reasons I enjoy starting my day with a cup of coffee and checking in with Rockhill Farm! As someone who suffered a life altering career ending disability injury I would share this with you - life is short. Be responsible about it, but do what you love and what gets you going first thing in the morning. The pitching mound business chapter of your life has run it's course and that is OK. To me, you sound like you look at everything from multiple angles before you make a decision so I'm confident you did not make a rash or uninformed decision. But now that you have made it - ONWARD! Dig in and don't look back. Thanks for sharing 🤠

I can totally relate, I closed my business in 2009. It hurt, no it absolutely sucked! With that said, they say way leads on to way. I wouldn't be where I am at now if wasn't for tough stepping stones along the way. Keep your head up and stay focused, you'll be successful on your next journey.

As a previous small business I know exactly what you are going through , I had to close my business after 11 years because of several things that were out of my control. My lease was up on the building I rented and the owner decided to sell the building for a huge amount that would have it impossible to make a profit if I bought it. And lot of my local distributors closed up, so I went out on my terms. Trying is not failing it’s learning. Don’t beat yourself up being self employed is tough especially in todays world. For every dollar I made there was always a hand ready to take it. I made money paid off my house and put some money in the bank, sometimes it’s nice to work a regular job with insurance and then find a side hustle for extra money, love your channel and you keep things real!

Yes you could do 14-18 hr days, but at what cost to your health both mentally and physically. It is a wonderful successful chapter now turned. I would definitely have done the same thing. Hey man, I know it’s tough but the economy has been run into the ground for 3 years. Unfortunately things have to give and a lot of times that’s the small businesses. You did your best and helped thousands of baseball teams. That’s something to be proud of. Who knows what the future holds. Plus hopefully you’ll get the Christmas tree income in a few years. Keep it up buddy, we all know you’ve got this. Your an inspiration to those like my self who dream of starting a small farm and living the life you are.

Not sure if its been said to you, But if the product is making you alot of money you need to make sure you have the product secure, Patented, and show the business being profitable and then put the company up for sale....or sell the patent to someone and set a contract to get some royalties for some time...or allow your employees to run the business.

I felt that I kinda needed to reply to your comment, not in a bad way but my experience is the opposite of yours. I bought my tractor late in life but every minute that I spend on it is a joy. Someone told my wife one day that every time that he saw me on my tractor that I had a grin on my face from ear to ear. I only wish that I had bought one 40 years sooner. Like I said, I'm not being critical. I just wanted to share my experience.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had to make a hard decision like this, Brock. Running your own business is a harder job that anyone can imagine until they do it for themselves. The weight of responsibility is huge and in today's economic environment, profitability is enormously difficult to achieve. At the end of the day, you have to do what is best for yourself and your family. I wish you success in whatever path you choose to follow from here on out. Is there any opportunity for you to sell your business to another firm? The rights to your product, the branding you've been able to build and any custom machinery must have some degree of residual value. Take care and God Bless.

Brock, when your employees move on and settle in somewhere else, I hope you learn to be very proud of what you’ve accomplished, what you’re accomplishing now, and how you’ve handled the transition. This video is a testament to your thoughtfulness. You are resourceful, highly adaptive, and passionate. It comes across to us, and I know it comes across to your employees. You’re in a tough stretch, but it’s also an exciting stretch, and I know I’m not the only person who’s glad to be following along. You should be proud brother! Life isn’t supposed to be easy and fun all the time, and the bigger impact you make the heavier the toll at times like these.

Brock, you’re no failure, let’s clear that up for the record. It was quite clear to a regular viewer how difficult this video was to make. It’s your passion for what you do, your honesty, and how you freely share the ups and downs that makes a connection with your viewers and bonds us like minded individuals together. You are a man’s man with a heart and soul, we all struggle in the journey of life, but you share with us the good and the bad. That my friend is why you have so many followers, you’re different in a good way from a lot of other content providers. I have no doubt that you will prevail, you dig down and make things happen because that’s what you know you have to do. That doesn’t take the sting out of what you’re going through, but it does fuel the fire to to get you in a better place. You didn’t fail, the endeavor you first set out on has ran its course and now you’re moving on to greener pastures. Having this type of perspective (good times and hard times) is needed to keep you motivated and moving in the right direction. I’m not saying anything that you don’t already know, I’m reminding you of theses things to help you see through the fog. I fully believe that good things happen to good people and you are better than just good. Keep it real, vent if you need to, but most of all keep the passion. The viewers on here understand and will be with you on your next adventure. Thanks for sharing a very personal decision and we all appreciate how willing you are to tell it like it is. You have nothing but the utmost respect from me.

Brock, this sounds like the perfect opportunity to sell the business instead of letting it die completely. You have a website, jigs and custom tools, designs, inventory, supplier information, and even a list of experienced employees. If you were profitable someone might be interested in starting that business up again and purchasing all the tooling, etc from you.

I agree 100%. Your company is an asset. Sell it.

100% agree with this as well. Approach some baseball equipment makers to see if they may be interested. They will already have the resources in place to do all the accounting, marketing, customer services, etc. to really grow the business.

I’m only a minute in the video but here’s my thoughts, with rising labor costs and plywood shortages his product is in a bind. He took his eye off the ball while starting excavation company and hasn’t continued to at the same time evolve/ refine his original product or pivot in the marketplace. A slight pivot to the pitching mound to get it profitable enough to sell would be my move.

The baseball mound business was more than a full time job by itself. Overtime, its not realistic you could do everything. You have a valuable business - proven product and market, a refined manufacturing process and large customer list.

HI Brock. Like several others have commented, you should consider selling your business. If none of your employees are able or willing to buy or take over the business, check with a business broker. If you still have the equipment setup and hopefully all of the procedures and plans documented, then a good business broker should be able to take it from there. You can sell it outright or maintain a % of the business. Lots of possibilities. If there is still a demand for the product, your broker should be able to find a buyer.

Very interesting brick. We’ve been teetering back and forth for a while now on whether to go full time KZbin and it is an enormous leap of faith and very scary. Haven’t been able to bring myself to do it yet even though I really want to

Thank you for sharing. I admire you for following your passion. Life is short, and it is far better to make it a quality life and enjoy it -- than to chase $ or live it trying to please others. Maybe you could try to sell your pitching mound business or bring in a partner(s). I wish you the best. I am a new subscriber. Keep up the good work.

Hey brother, have you considered trying to sell the business maybe to one of your employees or to another interested party or a large company? If there's a demand for the product there will be someone that is willing to fill that demand. Just a thought. Good luck being a full-time content creator. I love watching your videos. Have a merry and joyous Christmas. Bill H from Cranberry township Pennsylvania.

Hi Brock, I've only found your channel quite recently and binge watched a series of them over the course of the past 7 days or so. Only now finally figuring out that you real business is (was) about making portable pitching mounds. lol I salute you for making this brave decision to go all youtube and working locally with your machines and I think you will do just fine. I think you have got what it takes to succeed in both. God Speed.
