Quick hitch is a must....the PTO Link not so much....the only issue I've had is just getting the splines lined up, but having a tractor where you can put the PTO in "neutral" so you can turn the shaft by hand takes that problem out of the equation as well. Some tractors I guess have issues where you don't have enough space to try and get your hands in there to hookup the PTO shaft, but haven't ran into that issue with my tractor.
@patricksanderson20585 ай бұрын
I never realized the ring locks were frustrating, the only one I have is on woods equipment and it locks open until the shaft is seated, so it is by far the easiest pto shaft I own. I'd say it's better that way than the quick disconnects. It definitely varies tractor to tractor, on my Kubota with a quick hitch there is just the right clearance everywhere to reach through without much problem. My old Ford was awful and an adaptor like you are showing would have been great.
@wildbill23c5 ай бұрын
That collar type lock is the same style that is on the PTO shaft for my mid mount mower, works great, slide it onto the PTO output shaft on the tractor and it automatically locks when seated, and unlocks very easily as well, and that is in a pretty cramped space to get to and isn't any issue. The rear PTO has a lot better access than the mid-pto so no need for that $400+ coupler at least in my usage. I can see where it would be useful if you got an access issue to get to your PTO on the back of a tractor, but not the case on mine....some tractors once you get an implement hooked up you got like no room back there to get to anything LOL.

@CHEECHMUN The struggle is real!!!! My backhoe was sitting for 2-1/2 years. When I went to disengage the bushhog to hook the backhoe, the spline was rusted onto the shaft. But next time it should be rust free.

@kennethstanton54075 ай бұрын
First off, I've never had an issue connecting the splined shafts together except for the fact that for larger shafts hooking to bigger tractors, the things are bloody heavy. The adapter would compound that. Additionally, there's a reason for those multiple splines. Probably not a concern for a 4 foot lawnmower, but that adapter will twist up and break if it's carrying anything close to 80 hp or up. When it does, the pto shaft thrashing around loose will likely smash the tractor's pto shaft and break it right off. Good times. I've seen this happen with 540/1000 rpm adapters when they break.
@teammouse4 ай бұрын
Exactly, what a useless waste of money just maintain your pto shafts and you won’t have a problem. “You have to allign the splines well with the adapter you have to allign the pins what’s the difference. Those pins would break of clean with any tractor over a 100hp

@wildbill23c5 ай бұрын
He mentioned they are about $430 for the set towards the end of the video....a lot of money to connect a PTO shaft. Yeah, keeping the splines on the PTO shaft on the tractor clean, as well as on the PTO shaft itself is a must, even using those quick connect couplers isn't a good idea if you don't bother to keep things clean and lubricated, it'll eventually just rust onto the shafts and you'll never get them back off...I haven't gone to the brush idea yet, I just been using a rag and wiping the shaft on the tractor off, and cleaning out the shaft side on the PTO shaft before connecting, and haven't had an issue, I use a spray lube as I go to hookup the PTO shaft, then wipe everything down after I remove the implement so it it don't collect a bunch of dirt.

Much better than struggling to line up splines, pull back ring, etc. That being said, I still struggle with PTO Link as it can be hard to pull out inner pin while trying to switch the PTO Link to disengage it. This design looks much simpler. I was going to give it a try until I saw that the basic two part unit is $450 and each plate to put on your implement is another $150. What guards and shields? 😅. The old style with rings are brutal. The push pin is much better as long as you lube it. The shaft coming out of the tractor doesn't always have a slot on all sides for the pin.
@shanebradley83165 ай бұрын
They are interesting devices, have thought about them but the price needs to at least halve to open my wallet. The shafts and collars do work well when clean and use a dry lubricant to lrevent dirt and greese buildup. The shafts and couplers only need a very small amount of lubricant to facilitate over coming friction during installation and removal - not operation. So, just by not using greese - which is what my father and grandfather had done, there would be little to no sticky buildup and the coupler will slide onto the shaft easier. Wet lubricant attracts dirt then acts like sand paper causing not only difficulty with install but premature abbration on the splines, wearing down the shaft spline's corners and causing the splines to ride up in wach other, which also makes install and removal hard, but more importantly decreasing the locking effect of the splines and could cause the damage to the U-Joint. So, just keep 'em clean with no wet lubs and all will be fine.
@wildbill23c5 ай бұрын
Yeah they're extremely over-priced for what they are, and to solve a problem that doesn't really exist if you are paying attention, and keep the PTO shaft clean and lubed properly....biggest thing is people don't line the splines up right, then wonder why its a pain to install the PTO shaft, the other issue is they don't keep things clean, which makes installing and removing a PTO shaft a chore in itself.

No issues connecting Silo fillers, Hay Bines, Mowers, Bailers, Hay Conditioners or that fact any thing that requires a (PTO) Power Take Off. First things first. Both side of the (PTO) Power Take Off shaft have to be clean and free of dirt. A little grease goes a long ways.
