I’ve had a Solectrac e25 compact tractor running in Wisconsin weather since December, and its run great so far - including plowing snow in -10oF weather. You know, when you run one, after a while you don’t really notice anymore - it’s just a really quiet tractor. (Although I do love the quiet - no hearing protection!!)I have a hobby farm, so it’s perfect for me. I’m told it will go 6 hr, but I’ve never had the battery run down to less than 60%, so range has been a non-issue for me. I just do whatever project I’ve got for the day, plug it in to a wall outlet overnight, and the next day it’s fully charged. It’s nice to just plug it in, and not have to worry about getting fuel out to the farm. No oil changes, either. No spooking the horses. You can do inside work with the doors closed. It’s got lots of torque all the way from 0 rpm, so it’s great for plowing. Lithium-iron-phosphate batteries are a proven technology. So, I really like it. All of the concerns about electrics that I’ve seen have been non-issues for me. Hats-off to John Deere for putting electric out there as an option - American innovation. I just wish they would move faster . . .

It’s probable the main market for electric tractors are governments. They will buy them to signal their virtue and because expense is not a concern they can afford the higher prices.

Thanks for this view of the show. Lots of interesting products. When I saw postings regarding the JD 1RE last year, I was excited especially since they had been working with the concept since at least 2019. Here we are a full three years later and they are still in concept phase which is disappointing, but like you said, better to get it right rather than to rush to market with a product full of bugs (wait, don't software companies get away with that?).

I gotta say the rep who was talking about the electric Deere either knew absolutely nothing about it or the numbers are so bad that it’s nothing but a really expensive Christmas decoration…lol. She didn’t say one single thing. Great video as always, would love to make it to one of these shows.
@ABMFARM2 жыл бұрын
I gotta agree with you and couldn't have said it better, That deer rep had no clue, and if they have had the concept since at least 2019 that tells me they cannot get much run time in that small of a package.....by the way electric is not the future, they ( big tech) knows this....I agree it should be an option but not the whole answer...
@jeremyj6122 жыл бұрын
@@ABMFARM Exactly. They’ve made a calculated decision to represent it that poorly at the big shows. On one hand it shows the priority they place on the concept, but also shows the vanity of the brand itself (taking loyalty and reputation for granted). I agree that a lot of companies know the technology isn’t there to support customer demands but are doing enough in the arena to secure subsidies and elevate ESG scores for access to capital. I was a key manager for a very big brand you know for about 6.5 years and saw all of that from the inside. The part you won’t know yet is which companies are all in on that future ideologically, and which ones are playing the game at this point but are pragmatic about the technology.

The problem isn't the battery getting low.. its that it will take hours to charge and get back to work. She was playing coy with the battery life because i'm sure its uselessly low once a high demand attachment is running or even cutting thick wet grass.

Could you just imagine if all that electric equipment was plugged in charging lol it might look like Clark Griswolds Christmas lights lol. Interesting stuff tho. Well you obviously don’t know anything about Electric mowers because I talked to a dozen manufacturers.
