Thank you Christy, Tim and Nolan! Great series, you are right on with the ballast, pucker factor using the loader without it. My tires are loaded and still need more most of the time, use a ballast box or the backhoe, saving for HH bracket and weights, little at a time.

We have hay bale forks. They are just 2 long round things. Can also lift pallets and all kind of stuff. Some times we remove nuts and put only 1 of these in center instead of 2. Havepallets forks also but don't have middle plate for them. Have done all with hay forks

Spot on Tim! Good advise. I have to order my hooks for the bucket yet, but I'm the same as you with pallet forks or grapple on more than bucket. My Johnny is up in northern WI so a blower and Mauser cab were on my needed list. And with a gravel drive, I added a box scraper. Cart for Heavy Hitch bracket was a bit pricey, but what a godsend to switch from weights to box blade.

Keeping the mower deck off except for mowing is a great tip and a good practice for all owners. I've been keeping mine on this spring and fear it's getting bounced around too much. Thanks again for sharing your experience with the community, Tim.

Good tips and ideas, Tim. Wish I had known what things to look for prior to purchase. I didn't know what I didn't know until I found out later what implement or attachment I wish I had (smile). Forks are a good start. Grapple is really nice. Full-watch. Have a fine week.

Very very very good point you made around 15:30......these small tractors can go from upright on all 4's to up on 3-2-1 tires quickly. Or if you're not quick on the joystick dropping that load you can flop the tractor over. This is probably the most important thing to know about these small tractors. They need ballast. Rear weight bracket, rockbox......dragging and moving snow I even throw 2-4 weights on the blade when I clear our unpaved road. Ballast is everything.

Although I have watched many of your videos (TTWT has replaced TV!), I have found the discussions with Nolan most informative for me. Unlike Nolan, I am 76 years old and own a compact tractor but many of my questions are similar to his. I have owned a 2004 2210 with a loader and box blade for almost a decade and am just now discovering new ways to use it on my property thanks to you. Good stuff. I would really recommend a grader blade. I've used mine so much over the years for leveling dirt, pushing debris, setting it on an angle to mound dirt, and many other things. I just used mine to create a swale near my garden to improve drainage. I use mine for snow removal too. Pretty sure I got mine for around $250 new, so it's probably the most bang for the buck he could get. By the way, I just got my lube shuttle yesterday and greased the tractor in less than 10 minutes!

Totally agree with your comments on pallet forks. I too use them about 90% of the time with the loader. Can pick up anything from stationary objects to fallen trees. I have only found a few situations where a grapple would work better.

Just order my add a grapple mini to my forks yesterday. Had to call Agfolks & Precision to get answer on what length forks work best with mini grapple an it is 42" lenght. TTWT has been an Awesome resource on spending money wisely on my new 2032R to havin diverter valves installed before deliver to order with pallet forks. thanks Tim

Very informative. I have a lot of the attachments and they make things so easy. I couldn't pick one over the other as most important around the farm. Maybe the MMM as I have so much grass and it grows so fast. The longer I have my 1025R and these things the more I find them useful. Jobs I never dreamed they would help with go so easy with them. I highly recommend the lift and go ramps for the mower. Until I got those sharpening blades was difficult and dangerous.

Another great review and advice...even for “old” compact tractor owners. I have always included the third hydraulic SCV for the front of the loader on the tractors I have purchased new which is so nice for so many things. For a new owner I don’t know what the cost difference would be for purchasing new with the tractor/loader opposed to adding the diverter later. My personal advice (if you can afford it) is get the 3rd function SCV when you get the tractor. You’ll not regret it....fortunately for me, someone gave me that advice before I bought my first one. Tim, I've watched a bunch of your video's, this one takes the cake! there was a HUGE amount of info, VERY useful for a 1023e owner, my budget wouldn't let me get the bigger one like you've got, and being new to landscaping w/acreage this video just opened up a world of ideas that I can now 'justify' extra attachments, over time, which will be super useful around the homestead/hobby farm. I have found that my grapple and pallet forks are my two go to attachments for "stuff" i want to get accomplished on our property. Land plane is awesome on our gravel driveway, and the landscape rake and box blade are great for maintaining trails and paths on our property.

Those versaturf tires look like a really smart option over the Industrial tires for first time buyers, I wish that had been an option for my tractor purchase back in 2015. If I manage to replace/upgrade my tractor I will be looking into something similar. There has been only one occasion on my property where the aggressiveness of the industrial tire was really needed, and the yard damage was severe! lol Otherwise I take turning and maneuvering kinda easy as not to do much harm to the grass because I do have the tires loaded in the rear and the yard is never dry enough!

Almost bought a 1025R but ended up with Massey Ferguson GC1725M. Love the versatility of these machines and the work you can get done with them.

My dad has a BX2350 with only a mower deck. Reason being is they need a 4 wheel drive mower to be able to get into some of the wet areas around the farm. In addition, they use it as a tiller tractor for the garden. For loader work, they tend to just use the skid steer. I guess the point is, there are cases where you wouldn't want a loader. For me, I have a BX2660 I bought used. It did not come with a mower, so equally there must be customers out there who wouldn't need a mower. With that in mind, I have added a mower, and use the loader quite a bit. For most smaller operation viewers I think you're spot on with having both.

I bought a 1025 without a loader because of cost and I wanted a front mounted snow blower. I had a rear scoop that I used a lot with an 8n tractor and felt I could get by. I have for the last 5 years but I am now looking to get a loader for my tractor. I bought the 1025 over a zero turn or 700 series because of the three point hitch to run my box blade, boom arm, and rear scoop. I have been very happy with it. I have the 60" midmount quick attach mower deck and just this year added the mulch kit. It has been a game changer - no more wind rows. I was hesitant to add the mulch kit as I had a JD 510 front mount mower that I had installed the mulch kit and didn't like it as it left clumps all over the lawn. Not so with 1025 kit - it cuts great and I wish I would of done it sooner.

Hi Tim, I had the same problem with the JD spinner knob, I did resolve it in my case. I chamfered the inboard edges and cut a 1/2" maybe 3/4" piece of the rubber that came with it and placed it in the inboard side. I was able to use the supplied long screws. It is at a right angle to the wheel and so far , strong. Thank you for the videos.

In addition to hitting the top of my garage door with the ROPS on my 1025R, I also made the mistake of not being as aware as I should of how wide a rear attachment swings when turning a curve. I was pulling out of my garage with a rear plow attached, turned too quickly and the plow swung out farther than I had anticipated and caught the side of my garage door opening. I only did that once! Lesson learned!

Absolutely love my pallet forks! I made a concrete ballast weight for my 3pt. It weights 540lbs. There are *still* cases where I can lift a tire off the ground. The machine is just more capable(and I push it's limits) than I give it credit for. I definitely keep the loads low and my hands on the lever to drop that loader if it tips.

Agreed with #1 add of pallet forks. Its amazing how useful the forks are especially using them and a pallet to move stuff, load the pickup, raising helpers to the top of hay piles etc. ;-)

So far I've only added the hooks on the bucket and with a 12 foot chain they have been doing a great job for me. I know ppl hate the pallet forks that slip on the bucket edge, but for moving brush they have also worked well for me too. They do a great job where the brush is unwieldy but not very heavy. We didn't need to spend much time trimmings some downed tree limbs recently. In some ways I think my setup may have been better actually than dedicated forks because I used the bucket to contain some of the small branches that were pointed towards me as I loaded the piles. I only used the forks for the bushy ends. Used the bucket with the chain for larger pieces that naturally had no foliage on them.

I bought a used (2015) 1025R with a 48" front mount snow blower with 6 hours on the machine. No loader or mower. I mow with a 25hp (gas) lawn tractor with a 54" deck which is great for my 3 acre yard. We get a lot of snow here in Maine. I bought a back blade to help with snow and an XB tiller for the gardens. I plan on getting a loader and forks in the near future.

the rops saved my life, I had it up when going up a lil gravel pile and my tractor tipped and I wasn't wearing my seatbelt but I was lucky the rops was up so the tractor didn't flip on the top side of it

After I got my tractor I got the bolt on forks not as good but for the price do well and I have a mile of road to maintain so a box blade was next then I got a rear blade it made the edges so much faster the loader can do it but the blade changed it from a 4 hour job to a 20 minute job I really enjoy your videos I feel you show actual time and trouble and what will save you time and what is just entertainment

Another option to the beet juice is foam fill. I did it on my 1025r after 2 flats. Added about 80lbs to rear and 40lbs to front. No more worrying about flats again! Way more expensive than a plug but cheaper than new tires. Also improved ride quality.

Another outstanding video! And most of it you were out standing! Ok bad joke but I'd suggest a basic snow plow. Each year can be a crap shoot with the weather but you'll be glad you have it when you need it. My little lawn tractor I got 1st and foremost was snow removal. This year not much snow but I did use it as a dozer to move brush and clean out a ditch and was surprised how well it worked. I did spend about 12 years using a fork truck to move 12' x 5' skids of metal plates for inspection purposes and developed the skill to move just about anything. I even used the forks to break up these massive skids and load them into the dumpster.

Tim I was in the same situation as Nolan last year. I purchased a new house on just over an acre. I needed a tractor to mow, and a few other things that needed attention around the place. I found your channel while researching and it gave me a ton of other ideas on how to use the tractor. I purchased my 1025r last August and it is set to roll 120 hours this weekend and I think I only mowed 5 times. My wife and kids tease me saying I am obsessed with my tractor and TTWT. So much so that the better half named my 1025 "Timmy". I started with a TLB with the factory 3rd function a loader mounted hyd angle blade. A box blade and 60" MMM with load and go. Pallet forks were my first addition and I use them a ton. I just built a heavy duty shelf to hold my implements.. Debating on the add a grapple or a true grapple next....or maybe a rotary broom to sweep the barn. Tell Nolan to pull the trigger he won't regret it. At this point I would love a 2038 for the increased capacity but that might be tough to get past the finance committee 😁. And by the way yes I also belong to the oops club, ripped a ROPS light off with only 2 hrs on it and have hit the garage door twice worse one was this past weekend luckily no permanent damage to Timmy or the door/barn

One very important accessory is a quick hitch. I went 4 years without one and that’s 4 years of messing around with 3 point attachments that I’ll never get back (I know, life’s rough)! Even if it’s the cheapo harbour freight version...just make sure you change the top hook for the properly offset one.

I think I mentioned it on the last video, but a ROPS mount hard-shell canopy is good not only for keeping the sun off of you, but also for mounting stuff like a 12v fan & backup camera.

@@WYO_Cowboy_Joe Getting the machine aligned with the backhoe attachment is literally a pain in the neck without the camera. It also lets me keep an eye on what the rear implement is doing while simultaneously watching what the front loader and front wheels are doing when maneuvering in close quarters. And lastly, need is completely irrelevant: it was dirt cheap on eBay, so why not? Like seriously - I’ve spent more on bland burgers at a drive-thru than I did for the camera.

I have a 1025R TLB. Once I got it and seen your videos, I removed the 2 signal lights and put (2) 3" magnets on each so I can move the lights from inside the ROPS during most work. When using the back hoe, I put them to the outside. Works great

From a “Johnny’’ inspired 1025r owner: LED light kit from John Deere is an absolute, steering wheel knob is an absolute, Load n’ Go is VERY helpful, Edge tamers are a MUST and consider the add-on components to the Edge Tamers. As well, don’t go without the JD Quick Hitch, Rim Guard is a must and finally I recommend the Bolt-On 2” hitch receiver. GOOD LUCK Nolan!

I tend to use either the Bush Hog 286 or the Woods HBL84-2 blade as ballast for most things, as well as the wheel weights. The blade is 560lbs and the mower is around 1000lbs. It just happens that one or the other are on it most of the time anyway. It gets pretty tippy putting 2-3 18ft logs at a time on my trailer for firewood without anything on the 3pt! I'll eventually talk my dad into a grapple, but the forks work ok for now.

Hi Tim, you might want to mention to get the carrier for the heavy hitch weight bracket. I mistakenly got my heavy hitch without it, and not it is a huge pain in the ass to take all the weights off, throw them on a pallet, take the heavy hitch off, and then put the rototiller on. I need to get the little cart, but it is just so expensive to get it to Canada.

Hey Tim, I love the new, "Tractor Time" logo. I like how the tractor drives up to lift the, "a". I also like how you placed a burger in the logo. Anyone that has watched your channel for a while knows the importance of burgers to you. Some might consider this simplistic, but making a meaningful, yet catchy logo isn't easy. I agree with your advice, but unless I missed it, you skipped over the importance of and the removal/install of the backhoe. You mentioned a few episodes earlier that it's cheaper to get one during the initial purchase, but that's about it. I don't recall you two talking about or using it.

The two most used items on my tractor are the pallet forks and the bucket teeth. The other thing about the bucket teeth is that they extend the lip of your bucket a few more inches, so you can carry more bulky items.

I have a 2025R that came with a loader, mowing deck, snowblower, and front blade. I don't intend to use the loader as I have a full-sized loader on my Deere 4320 CUT. The 2025R recently replaced Deere 650 and X758 tractors that were used to mow lawn, collect leaves, clear snow, till the garden, and run a cordwood saw. The 4320 is used for heavier work such as running the backhoe, a 6" chipper, and a 4' splitter. For my purposes, the chipper, splitter, and forks (in that order) are my most-used attachments.

I have those edge tamers and just really like them. For the $100 I paid for them they have saved me a load of work picking up gravel off my lawn. I even used them to lift my picnic table up like forks. Wouldn't use them on a concrete drive though.

I have a 1026R without a loader nor a mowing deck. Yet I really love it, garden tilling, levelling, brush hogging spraying trees with a 300l (don't know what it equals to american measurements) moving brush, dirt and vegetables with a box in the 3point, moving a small agricultural reel sprinkler to water fields. I mean its amazing, if I could have a few more equipment right now I'd get some kind of flail mower and a seeder

What type of seeder are you considering? Spinner, or more expensive version?

@@TractorTimewithTim something fancier, maybe with 4 discs and a nice metering unit, just don't have enough work for it for how much it would cost, right now I use my hand as the metering unit and the tiller to incorporate it into the soil 😅

I have a 1023E with Loader, Tiller, tooth bar, Weights, and read rack, ripper bar. Soon to get a grapple for brush and wood logs for cutting firewood.

Tim, I’m looking at upgrading my JD 325 garden tractor for a 1025r. With a new 54 or 60” auto connect mower running about the same price as a 48” zero turn, have you or would you ever consider that instead of a mower deck? Downside would be storage space. Lots of upside - better and faster mow job, less weight on lawn, less hours on Johnny, kid can mow while I’m playing on Johnny. Would appreciate your thoughts on this.

I just purchased my first tractor, a 2016 1025R. It came with a 48 gallon sprayer that attaches to the 3 point hitch. Would be sufficient for ballast if it’s full of water? Or would it be better to go ahead and get the heavy hitch?

Can’t believe a backhoe wasn’t up high on the list Tim. I couldn’t live without my backhoe. Use it ALL THE TIME. I’m looking into a grapple, a thumb for my backhoe, and a tiller this summer.

All good stuff. Very difficult to prioritize, but I was focused on initial cost with my list. My top choices do not break the bank. I LOVE the grapple and backhoe!

So far, having bought 5 acres in the past year, we have appreciated getting a deere 60” commercial zero turn mower & a 3032 tractor. The zero mows much quicker, and the tractor is a bit larger and makes some of the tractor tasks easier. At least for our use

On my 2nd 1025R. The first one was just a mower. I also had a 1533 Massey. Traded both for a new 1025r with all bells and whistles. Got land plain, brush cutter ,tiller and front loader and bagger. Loved it as a mower. Verdict is still out as a small tractor. I have very hilly land. I live in the foothills of north Carolina. I am concerned about the stability of the tractor. I have already purchased extenders for both front and rear wheels. Lower the center of gravity and give me more stability I hope. I have already laid it on its side one time. It is also under powered for these tools. Don’t misunderstand me it gets the job done but sometimes it really has to strand. This tractor would be great on flatland but I would be careful if I had hilly property.

Consider adding Rimguard to the rear wheels, and adding rear wheel weights.

Hilly terrain is my problem too here in N. PA... I've an '08 2305 with belly mower & bucket loader, liquid rears and a 500# rock box. And it's Still very top heavy! I always use 4WD with my hand on the loader lever so I can drop it quickly!
