I’m a Civil Inspector. I often have the opportunity to scrounge around through rocks and gravels on job sites. Over the years I have accumulated some great rocks. They are often smaller gravels but sometimes I find surprises in otherwise boring quarry spalls. Here in Washington there is such a wide variety of rocks and minerals in glacial deposits it’s always worthwhile to keep a lookout for something interesting. One thing nice about large concrete aggregate and drain rock is it’s rounded and easy to see what it will look like tumbled. It’s particularly good to look for it when it’s wet.

I have found some nice agates in glacial deposites, some quarries are known to have better material then others. You cannot get access to them like you used too. Sometimes though you can find where they have dumped their material for roadways and just walk the road, I can't count how many times I have found a nice agate right in the middle of the road. Happy hunting

That is fun to rockhound like that, you have no idea what you may find and when you cut it sometimes you get a real surprise. Thanks for watching!

I love those kinds of rocks. I recently traded some Graveyard Point, Oregon, plume agates for some Olympia area green rocks with stripes and spots and splotches and can't wait to open them up to see what's inside. Thank you for a very enjoyable video!

Its fun to find rocks and you really don't know what you have until you cut them. In the glacial deposites you can find all sorts of stuff. I hope your trade is worth it.

This is great! I’m hoping to go out for rockhounding with my boys. Any good suggestion where to start in Alaska, Canada, or PNW area?

Most the streams coming off the Olympics and the Cascades will have good rock to find. The higher you get up into the mountains the better your chances are of finding good local material
