Beautiful finds! I'm a novice rockhound who will be heading out to the Big Bend area later this year. I'm currently doing the research to find legal places to collect. Watching your videos is getting me excited!

There used to be a few places you could hunt and pay by the pound. Now they’ve all closed up which we are very sad about. There is a lady called Terry Smith and she runs the only rock hounding group that I know of out there now. You can find her online. From time to time you can find a local rancher who allows. Of course the state park and federal park of big Bend is off limits but it’s fun to drive through the park and enjoy the sights. They have a dinosaur dig there. A must stop is in Marathon TX and enjoy the Gage Gardens. You can see it on one of our videos. Thanks for watching

We go to a private ranch, but if you check on line at Teri’s Smith rocks. She does rockhounding tours. She is a little pricey, but that will point you in the right direction. Outside of Alpine TX. Hope you have fun. We always do. We are headed that way this weekend and will post more videos.

It’s sad to say but rock hounding in Texas is getting harder to find a collecting spot. Stillwell Ranch by Big Bend use to be a very good place and a few farms by Alpine, TX, but all are no longer allowing it. Maybe try Googling it? There is a cool Fluorite mine in Deming NM that you can collect at. Also along the road from Fort Stockton to Big Bend, you can find some things. Wish I had better advice, sorry. Thanks for watching
