I found some amazing greens yesterday and a huge piece of mica schist... possible agatized wood... I'm having so much fun... Made a few slabs today... I went to the spot I went as a young fellow and im so glad I did ...I was lost for a bit to the rest of humanity... I needed that... I have to polish a few things... I wish I had of started this years ago...

I think that’s what I’m finding is a lot of that quartzite. If it ever stops raining lol it’s like 8:15 Friday morning and the storm should be heading your way as I type . I want to post another video and show off the collection and maybe some of the audiences can help with identifying etc . Ok brother enjoy your weekend

Quartzite will look more grainy that chert or jasper. Chert and jasper have very small crystals which you can't see. Quartzite you can see small crystals. It's very difficult to identify something through a camera. If you are just starting out the best place to learn and get advice about your area in particular is your local rocks & minerals groups. A lot of them have facebook pages which you can join and share pictures and ask questions. Sometimes you even meet people to go rockhounding with in your area. Usually they will have experienced people who know the geology of your area and what rocks to look for. Stay dry!

@@RockhoundingLife cool thank you . This storm is crazy it’s been snowing the last few hours and it’s real heavy wet snow and the guy across the street tree is about to take out the power lines . I knocked on his door and he isn’t home and I’m touching electrical stuff

Hi, Just wanted to congratulate you on being such a great father and teaching your kids an appreciation for nature. My son and I have collected together as well. Now we meet once or twice a year to hunt the many gravel and cobble filled rivers and beaches of the Dominican Republic. No completion here and fairly close. I am sort of late a beginner at 74 and found rock collecting later in life. I am fascinated by the conglomerate piece frames 4:55-9:55. I would love to acquire a slice, end cap, or whatever you can spare and gladly pay for postage etc. I am sure you get many request and will understand if this is not something you do. I really don’t have much to trade as about all we have in Florida is fossil coral and some bland flints. Anyway, just thought I’d ask. Thanks for your videos. Your straight forward unpretentious presentation is mush appreciated. Larry

I don't make cabs....yet.....We do have a lot of material for making cabs. I just prefer to tumble and polish slabs so haven't gotten around to trying cabs yet. But I will eventually i'm sure.

2:07 that's got a pretty waxy look for schist or gneiss. Are you sure it's not sedimentary? 2:13 this looks like andesite 5:54 yeah, okay, I agree. 6:57 I might agree with your slip at the beginning that those are quartzite. At 7:53 you can see a pocket of coarser grains on the left of the screen. Maybe a mix of some kind. Usually chert is opaque. Nice pieces anyway! Thanks for showin!
@RockhoundingLife4 жыл бұрын
Thirst Fast 2:13 I guess could be andesite but a lot of the grains look rounded. But you might be right. Petrology is not my thing. Sed or Ign
@RockhoundingLife4 жыл бұрын
Thirst Fast I originally thought this was quartzite years ago when I first collected it but after cutting it you can feel the waxy texture and the edges are sharp AF. plus the beach is loaded with banded Chert if similar texture. I’m in NFLD now and just went to the same beach and picked up a bunch. Vid coming soon
@RockhoundingLife4 жыл бұрын
Thirst Fast send me a message on my Instagram “rockhoundinglife” or Facebook Messenger “Jason Baker” and I’ll send you some picks of the other samples I think are Chert from the same beach. You can me what you think.

Why don't you cut on the longest axis so you can expose more of the rock? These cuts were kind of a waste.
@RockhoundingLife2 жыл бұрын
I cut where I think I will expose more features of the rock. Not worried about length.
@AdamBanta-wz8nrАй бұрын
Stones display granular characteristics similar to that of meat. Each cut angle will expose specific and different qualities of the stone. No cut facing is equal to another..
