Lou Gramm WAS Foreigner; Mick Jones just never wanted to give him credit as a singer or a songwriter. After Lou was forced out Foreigner was nothing more than a cover band of its own material. His voice is ICONIC

Me too. It was released during my second year at UK University when I was studying Computer Science and just ... very happy. Probably the happiest period of my life. This song sums it up perfectly. Staying up chatting through the night about deep and meaningful things. Romances, making lifelong friends, stellar highs and deep, deep lows. Sitting watching the sun rise across the lakes on campus. Cycling with friends. Throwing a cup of water in the air to watch it freeze when one time we had -18oC in winter. Crying because I never wanted one evening to end. Magic. Midnight Blue. The song "Lakeside Park" by Rush also sums it up perfectly.

He left because he wasn't getting credit for songs it boiled down to someone else wanting all the money and for lou to be a good boy and just sing. He did go back later to tour with Foreigner and I actually got to see him. Sadly he was pushed out before he had time to heal from a brain tumor the size of an egg and doesn't remember much of the tour due to a ruined pituitary gland, memory issues, being on oxygen, sleeping hours at a time and having to sit for all perfomances. I was still blown away from his performance. Not only by his singing after all that but his demeanor. He came out pulled up a stool and said hi I am lou gramm can I sit with you all? Check out his Christian album and you will see what an amazing survivor he is. So many people made fun of him because of his weight gain and performance (he read all of it in the papers but had to stop) not realizing he didn't want to go but was forced into it or he would be sued. He really has been through so much and it really makes you realize people struggle regardless of wealth

Cherry red for love, passion, fire, wildness, freedom, individuality, and Midnight Blue for the soothing, calm, relaxing, stability, and tranquility. @@Deetroiter It's true. I've had the extreme fortune/luck to have talked to Lou briefly after several Foreigner shows around twenty years ago and he is truly such a soft-spoken, humble, kind soul...I just love the guy. After one of their shows at Trump Marina in '00 I ended my conversation with him by telling him I would be at their next show which was two days later at the Crocodile Rock Cafe in Allentown, PA. I was at the front when they came onstage and when Lou approached the mic he spotted me and flashed a big smile and pointed at me. During their set he put the mic in my face to sing the chorus to Cold As Ice. That was also the show when Mick's guitar was around two feet from my face during his roaring solos.

Great choice - this is such a solid rock/pop effort from Lou Gramm - takes me back to my teen years. As for Luka and the bell - he might surprise you: ask him if he remembers where he put the bell. The story that makes me say that: Once when I was helping out with a wedding, the 3-year-old flower girl was missing her headpiece. Everyone was frantically searching for it for quite a while. Finally, I kneeled down and asked the flower girl if she remembered what happened to her headpiece. She took me by the hand and literally walked me to the other end of the church (I thought she was just playing around about halfway there, we were walking so far) to the large, all-purpose room where the reception would be, and directly to the table where her headpiece was laying. Kids can and will surprise you.

When I think of Foreigner it's their heavy rockers that come to mind first. And there are many. They're the only band my husband and I left early from their concert...because it was so loud it was painful! Still, some of the more popular top 40 Foreigner tunes were "Double Vision," "Cold as Ice," "Feels like the First Time," and "Hot Blooded"...but my favorite is "Long Long Way From Home" ("It was a Monday, day like any other day/ I left my hometown for the Apple in decay) It starts off fast paced and powerful and stays that way. J, i think you'll love the bouncy guitar riff. Thanks for the memories and God bless you ♡♡

Growing up in Rochester, NY, Foreigner was ALL over the radio, because Lou Gramm was a hometown boy.

Awesome song, one of my absolute faves of the 80s! And, its one of those sometimes "forgotten hits"..... Cant remember, have yall reacted to "Easy Lover" -Philip Bailey/Phil Collins?

Lou was still in Foreigner when this came out and would be for about 3 more years. During that time he would release a 2nd solo LP and do a song for "The Lost Boys" soundtrack. (Since you reacted to the movie you've heard the song "Lost In The Shadows.)

This song will always have a special place in my heart. I was going through a divorce & was at a very low point. I would mow my lawn & listen to songs on my CD player in my headphones. This song came on & the lyrics spoke to me. It seemed to have a message of renewal & it lifted my soul. The words'' I'll be back again'' resonated with my heart. I smiled for the first time in months & there was a noticeable quickening in my stride. Thank you Lou Gramm.

There are plenty of excellent Foreigner songs that also give you the “rockin” side of Lou Gramm. You want Foreigner Lou Gramm to rock? React to “Woman In Black”, probably the best song on the 4 album! That aside, this has always been one of my longtime favorites.

Thank you for reacting to this song... So many good memories with this song... it came out in 1987 when I was in college. I had an upbeat music themed study tape to help when I needed some extra energy for studying... this was fundamental in the mix. I was hoping to list some of the other songs from that tape/year but as I look things up you have already done a number of them. One song I really loved from that year was the song I ended up dancing to at my wedding... I don't believe you have done any songs by this artist... Chris de Burg "Lady In Red"

Haven’t heard this in 30 years! FYI: ELO also has a song called “Midnight Blue,” from “Discovery” which was the same album that “Don’t Bring Me Down” was from. ELO’s song is a totally different song which I feel is one of the most romantic love songs of the decade between 1975-1985; perhaps even ever. I think you guys would like it.

Loved your reaction to this song guys. I felt the same way when I first heard it. I was a huge Foreigner fan and didn’t quite know what to expect from Lou’s first solo album. Midnight Blue instantly became one of my favourite rock anthems. Happy you enjoyed it as much as me! 😁 Cheers.
